Stumbled upon this on way back from Norfolk: not just a pub, far from it. The attention to detail is excellent, from how the tables are laid up through to their quirky (old) toilets and the individual touches these owners have made their mark on. Sat outside as a glorious day in their large garden (a little odd in areas, old sofa!!) but the service from walking in to leaving was excellent. Young lad in the main looked after us and was knowledgable: Overall This place was better than most whom appear to side on Hospital approach rather than hospitable during these pandemic times.
Food - had Cromer salad and a risotto as lunch mains: Both dishes matched the quality of this place and hit the mark in what they are achieving. That is a true individual Gastro style pub, great ambience, great cooking with local producers and aimed at those that appreciate great service, great drink and great food. All priced at “It doesn’t matter as long as it exceeds your expectation”
Will without a doubt be back!

We arrived on valentines evening to find a red rose awaiting on our booked table for two. The venison wellington was cooked to perfection, beautifully served with a butternut squash puree, spinach and roasted potatoes. The smooth shiraz wine and a complimentary glass of prosecco all helped the sticky toffee pudding with extra cream with custard all go down rather well . The service and welcome by the front of house staff were exemplary.
Thank you for a lovely evening

We called in for lunch after visiting Sandringham. So glad we did. The pub is set in small village but a large sign on main road states where to go. We both opted for the haddock cooked in beer batter with hand cut chips, peas and homemade tartar sauce. The fish was huge and very fresh. The batter so crisp. The chips were more like wedges with skin on but were gorgeous. The lunch menu on a Saturday is more like an evening menu but it was well worth the price. We really enjoyed our lunch.

After reading all the reviews we thought we give this place a try. They were extremely busy because of EOTHO scheme. Service was good but no social distancing whatsoever which made our visit a bit stressful. Tables are too close to each other and waiters act like pre covid style. They seriously need to train them. Food was also not that great. My burger was as dry and dense as a brick. The lamb kofte for a starter was a joke (£7 for a single finger sized microwaved skewer). Definitely we wont return.

Been past the rose and crown many times on our way to our way our favourite eatery, pop in for lunch having looked at the menu on line, rustic plus cosy inside ,piped music to loud ,no covid measures in place ,rather premature covid is still around ,all staff not wearing masks,no hand gel anywhere ,washrooms need attention ,gents was just passable ,the ladies I quote my wife who works in care, who ever cleans the toilet needs sacking cobwebs every where etc, service ok in line with the staff,s age. The menu choice is excellent ,lots of different dish,s my deep respect to the chef,it’s the biggest choice of menu around Norfolk and we visit nearly every pub / res around ,last time we saw a menu like this was when the excellent cokers ,used to own the life boat inn at thornham, there’s fish, meat even game on the menu that’s rare these days, the food was very tasty well cooked served well. From Monday to Friday they do a lunch club menu you get the cheapest main free good idea ,some of the dish,s on the lunch club menu are also on the main menu, if the portions on the lunch club menu are the same size as the main menu ,then thats not value for money. The rose and crown is well worth a visit,we will return, just needs a bit of TLC in areas that are important to customers, food plus food menu excellent ,why a rustic Norfolk village pub needs music playing which can be annoying but problem is properly due to the age of the staff,a bit of extra time cleaning my help.

Arrived late, although had let them know, and was offered my booked inside table or to sit outside as the weather was nice.
Sat inside. Well thought out for Coronavirus rules with hand sanitiser on each table.
Food was fantastic. Fish and Chips and Chuck Burger..... didn’t know till we got there that it was 2 for 1 on main meals till 4pm so it made the experience even better.
Wish we lived nearby as we would be back.
Brilliant meal and fantastic pub.

The Rose and Crown is a lovely small rural pub / restaurant that serves excellent food. We went there on Thursday 12th Aug, whilst we were on holiday and could not fault the atmosphere, the surroundings, the service and the food - apart from the fact that the apple crumble did not come with the option of having custard. It's traditional - crumble and lots of custard. But not here; sadly it came with ice cream only, and we would urge the management to make this one significant change to their menu.

We visited the Rose and Crown at lunchtime after spending some time at nearby Houghton Hall (gardens and art exhibition). Received a warm and friendly welcome in this fabulous location, which has a great decor inside. I enjoyed the delicious smoked salmon risotto while my friend chose gnocchi. (She was accidentally served a dish of fish with gnocchi but the staff were happy to let her keep the food but only charge her for the other dish.) A hidden gem!

Came here for dinner last week when staying in the area for our holiday. This is a proper cosy country pub😊 Super friendly staff, tasty food and lovely, cosy and comfortable interior. I had rib eye steak, cooked to perfection, very tender and served with the best homemade chunky chips. They even made a delicious pepper sauce for me, even though this is not on the menu, excellent service!! My boyfriend had perfectly cooked duck breast and we both had dessert, mine was a delicious chocolate soufflé, sadly can't remember what he had but I know he also thought his dessert was delicious! Would highly recommend The Rose and Crown, do book though, it is very popular with locals and holidaymakers alike.

Four of us were on holiday and called into the Rose & Crown on a Saturday. They were able to fit us in and we had a very nice meal, tasty and well presented. The one thing we did think was it was cluttered and when looking closer at the quirky decor it needed a good clean and the toilets definitely need re vamping.
We went mid week as a 2 for 1 meal deal is available. We ordered from the meal deal menu, friends ordered the Venison Bourguignon, my husband ordered fish and chips and I had the Salmon Risotto. When the meals were delivered I seemed to had been given a half portion as only half the dish had risotto the other half was a salad garnish. When we questioned this and asked if they’d given us a starter the answer was it was a reduced size because it was on the 2 for 1 deal. Everyone else’s was full size. What I had was tasty but definitely disappointing.

So happy to be back on our regular visits to the cosy interior of the Rose & Crown! Interesting menu, all local/foraged/home made. Food prices are reasonable for what you get, some wines by the glass are a bit pricey so check first.
A really excellent front of house team led by Beverley (a complete star and definitely a lady in the right job) assisted by the equally speedy/friendly Felicity.
See you soon, guys!

Friendly welcome and the service throughout our meal was first class.
The locals beer was served in excellent condition and was competitively priced.
The food was rated very good by all.
A very friendly pub and the Covid precautions were good.
The pub served food from midday through to the evening.
Very convenient if visiting Houghton Hall about two miles away

We visited for Saturday lunch whilst holidaying nearby. 9 of us celebrating my in-laws 50th wedding anniversary.
The atmosphere is warm and relaxed. I loved the decor. It feels very homely and welcoming.
The staff were exceptional. Polite, attentive and cheery without being intrusive.
The food was really good. A really great menu… we all struggled to choose! I was thrilled that instead of having a dedicated children’s menu, they offered to do any meal in a kids portion 👍🏻
Highly recommended. Thank you for a lovely afternoon.

We came here as a family of 9 ( 6 adults and 3 children ages 3-7). At first I was concerned that there wasn't a kids menu. The server told us we could have most mains as a child's portion and there was plenty to choose from. We had the two for one deal on pub starters and mains. All local produce and absolutely divine! I had venison twice (paté and the venison main). My daughter had scampi and chips, my husband had ham terrine and the fish and chips main and wow! The fish was almost a parcel of cod! It was very impressive.
The beer was local and the atmosphere was cosy and welcoming.
Would definitely come again....and again...and again!

Wow! This was our second visit to the Rose and Crown and it proved that our previous visit earlier this year wasn't a one-off fluke. Where to start? Lovely village pub vibe, warm and welcoming. Beer, beautifully kept. Service friendly and attentive. A menu where we all struggled to choose what to have. There were three of us and we were all pleased with our choices, that were perfectly prepared and nicely presented.
There are some strong contenders for the dining crown in this neighborhood (The Dabbling Duck and the Old Bank, to name but two). But today we had a three course meal and drinks that came in at a little over £50 each at the Rose and Crown, which to me is great value and gave all the rivals a run for their money. Harpley, I hope you appreciate the gem that you have on your doorstep.
