Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Went on a rainy day to cafe with my 16 year old daughter for a treat. I chose a latte and an avocado on tomato toast with asparagus and poached eggs. In fact it came with a bonus 3rd egg and was absolutely delicious. My daughter is Coeliac and ate was she described as one of the best breakfasted sh'd ever eaten!! She chose a butchers breakfast with 3 enormous sausages from the Aune Valley Butchers next door. She also had a fancy hot chocolate with cream and marshmallows. Our food was served by a lovely smiley lady and we felt welcomed and looked after. We left very full and will be happy to return and recommend to our friends and family!

Great afternoon (pre-3.00pm) lunch. Fantastic fishcakes and the best local ham, eggs and chips, with a box of lemon drizzle cake to take home for tea!! Lovely local (hidden away) cafe with views over a typical Devon valley. Very obliging staff...all freshly cooked food. Very popular with locals!!

Got talking to a local who recommended Valley View, we called in for breakfast after a great weekend at Hope Cove. Lovely light and airy Cafe. Breakfast was great especially the mushrooms, all cooked perfectly. Lots of nice touches, offered warm milk with my Amerano, sauce in a pot and little ties on the cutlery. Will visit again when in area.

Visited here for the first time after my mum had been with family and said how lovely it was. Arrived at 11:40am and it was busy as to be expected on a Friday morning. Went and ordered drinks and wanted the breakfast. Was then informed that they weren’t taking breakfast orders anymore to let the kitchen catch up before lunch. Understandable as it was so busy. Waited 30 minutes for 2 coffees and then couldn’t order lunch until 12:15 because the kitchen were still behind. We finally ordered our 2 hog roast baps at 12:15 and didn’t get them until 12:50 and we had to leave by 1pm so I was not impressed. The food was nice but they definitely need more staff. Especially with summer coming up and half term!

This cafe is fantastic. They’ve taken to doing takeaway breakfasts during lockdown and also fish and chips midweek. After sampling the incredible breakfast bap a couple of weeks ago I couldn’t wait to have the fish and chips this week. I’d heard nothing but great things and was not disappointed. The fish was really tasty, lovely crispy batter, sausages the tastiest we’ve ever had and not a soggy chip in sight. All freshly cooked to order and wow! It was just incredible. Oh and I mustn’t forget the incredible homemade curry sauce! My children were arguing over who got to eat it, it was that tasty! Such a delicious midweek treat. Thanks team Valley View, can’t wait to come back!

This little cafe never, ever fails to delight! Incredibly Covid safe & staff as friendly and delightful as always. Cakes & coffee are always scrumptious & a take away of extra cake is a must! Having a breakfast or main course - be prepared for goodly portions of great food. For those commenting on the lack of staff/speed of service I say this - lack of hospitality staff is across the full range of businesses. From Michelin restaurants to the smallest cafes! Everyone is trying their hardest, can customers not try harder to be patient and understanding? Try #bekind However, kudos to all the team here at Aune Valley Cafe for being utterly brilliant!

Since we have not been allowed to visit this amazing cafe we continued to use the takeaway service. Nothing but Pure Perfection, from the freshest fish and chips to mouth watering ribs that literally fall apart with every mouthful. Finally indulging in the lightest chocolatley mousse with just enough cream and white buttons dusted on the top. Massive portions and always great customer care. Definitely our guilty pleasure. Thank you.

A big thank you to everyone at Valley View Cafe for taking the trouble to fit me yesterday. The pies were fantastic and still piping hot when we sat down to eat them. Hopefully when normality returns we can sit inside again. All the best.

Visited with my husband and son, I had the Tart of the day which came with a lovely fresh salad and chips it was delicious and I throughly enjoyed it, my husband had the fish finger sandwich which was proper fish and was quite large but he managed, our son had the Bacon and Brie Sandwich which was enormous and he said tasted amazing. A bit of a wait but where can you go now and not wait for freshly cooked to order food but it was all well worth it. Sit back, relax with a delicious coffee or hot chocolate and take in the most amazing view, you won’t be disappointed. Thank you all and we’ll be back soon.

We have been coming here for several years for either breakfast or lunch. The service is very slow but the food has always been worth the wait. Four of us came for an early lunch on Monday. The only table free was in the marquee. Although the table had been cleared, it obviously hadn't been cleaned or wiped down as there were still bits of food. We noticed that as each table became free, and we were there for nearly one and a half hours, not one table was wiped down or cleaned in any way! Whilst waiting for our food a couple came in with a dog. The young waitress, tall, slim, reddish hair in a ponytail and wearing glasses, started taking their order. She then made a fuss of the dog, stroking him all over and allowing the dog to lick her hands! We were simply appalled. She left and returned almost immediately with our food . There was NO WAY she had time to wash her hands! I felt sick to the stomach; could not finish my food and could not enjoy it. The dog in question was sat on the bench between its owners and its paws were on the actual table. We left before their food arrived but I would be very surprised if their table was cleaned as we saw NO sign of cleaning during our stay. In this day and age and with covid on the rise again surely this is basic hygiene. Have the staff had no hygiene training at all? Apparently not. We will not be returning.

Pretty disappointing really. Ordered a fish finger sandwich for one of our meals and they clearly weren't fish fingers - just some really overcooked thin fish fillets - perhaps this was why it took a long time to arrive (?) although they didn't appear to be that busy. I would have expected to be told that fish fingers weren't available rather than serving something we had not ordered. Had anyone come to ask how the meal was, I would probably have told them but no-one did. Shame really as we went here because of all the 5 star reviews. Wouldn't go back.

This evening we ordered a Fish and chip takeaway. I can honestly say that we were NOT disappointed. The fish was beautifully cooked, crispy batter and homemade chips all piping hot, and very generous portions. The best fish and chips I've had for ages WILL definitely be returning and recommending to my family and friends.

We visited this morning for breakfast 4 adults and 2 children. The service was excellent and the food was really tasty and very good quality as well as very generous portions. It set us up for the day ahead on the beach. Definitely recommend.

As usual we had a lovely time in this friendly little cafe. This time we had lunch, salmon and haddock fishcakes with salad which was very tasty. The staff are always lovely and we will continue to come back time and time again. Absolutely brilliant

Called one afternoon and was served a cheese scone and my husband had a fruit scone with cream and jam. The most enormous triangular cheesy scone arrived with real butter, lovely chutney and a pot of grated cheese. The fruit scone had homemade jam and cream. We shared these and with an huge pot of tea had a lovely time sitting on the veranda admiring the view. Lovely friendly staff and our total bill was £10!!
