We were a group of sixteen away on Exmoor needing a good meal after a cold day out. The Poltimore Inn provided was welcoming and friendly, exactly what we were after. I had booked a couple weeks before and we ordered on the evening. The...food came out all together and ready to eat for us as a large group. The most popular choice being the home made pie, this being a great recommendation. The gammon steak, burgers, fish and chips were also very decent meals. The bar of the pub is a tradition country pub set up with a dart board, pool table and solid furniture. So gives a real feel of being an active Exmoor country pub. the restaurant area is out the back, open roomy and more modern in decor and furniture. Definitely make your way here if you are in the area.More

We arrived after a long drive, They offered us an upgrade straight away outside the building. It was raining and down a long steep driveway. we declined. put our stuff in the room, (towel rail fell off bathroom wall when I put towel on it....We went straight down to eat and informed them straight away about the towel rail. First meals sent out chicken was raw and blood running out (pictures to prove this) Prawns undercooked, mixed grill was cooked but no colour to one side of the meats like it was done in a hurry. Bar manager was lovely she apologised asked what else we would like and offered us a free drink which we didn't want. I didn't want to risk a main meal and, as I'd not eaten since breakfast, just had a pudding. Hubby ordered a burger and chips with an extra burger on it, and it arrived without an extra burger. The chips weren't cooked and were hard, so they then brought fresh chips and extra burger. Chips were fine, but the second burger was burnt and hard on one side. The kitchen manager came out she was polite but argued it depends how you like your food cooking! Also they had been very busy. Bar manager had said any food would be free that night, and we were brought a £38 bill, so we asked for the manager/owner who was out right rude and obnoxious the way he was trying to defend the food. He told us the bill had been cleared so we went to our room. As we went up, we could hear them arguing in the kitchen and heard the owner say,'the law of averages your bound to get one wrong! We carried on to our room. 10 minute's, after we were in the room their was a knock on our door, husband answered, and the manager/owner and kitchen manager were standing their. The manager said,'You can stay tonight have breakfast but then we want you to leave.' I said what you are kicking us out because you fed me raw chicken? He said we aren't kicking you out. You can stay tonight, and we have asked you to leave in the morning!" We said we have nowhere else to go. we had paid for 2 nights, and he said loads of b&b find one of them! He said he had to protect his staff? and were going to slate them?, and I said we had no intention of slating you, and your staff weren't the problem they were apologetic and nice it was you that was rude and obnoxious. The kitchen manager asked him to leave us and he went and she said he isn't a people person! She then argued how a burger and chips should be cooked and that they couldn't serve a burger pink, to which I said, "But you can chicken?" In the end, she said we could stay the sunday night, but we would have to eat else where else to protect the chef, and she would have made us pay for the burger and desert. We said we would get back to her. We asked about the heating as the room was cold, and we're told it would come on a timer, which it didn't. It didn't make sense she said we could stay in the end but cudnt eat in the hotel in the evening. As one of their chef cooked us breakfast in the morning. I had a piece of toast hubby that had full breakfast and enjoyed it. They left, and we booked a Premier Inn, and we rang down and let her know. They refunded us the 2 nights stay, but it totally ruined our last 2 nights of our holiday and pretty much left us stranded! We have never had a problem like this before anywhere or been treated so badly. I only wish I could upload the picture of the chicken sitting in blood!More

Excellent accommodation, food and service. The new chalets are comfortable, clean and away from the pub so, no noise. Amazing views too. The food is of a high standard and the staff are super friendly. Don't worry about parking, there's plenty on road side and...in the little square. An absolute gem of a place, well run, in a beautiful area, nothing was too much trouble.More

The staff here are really friendly and helpful. It’s the real hub of the community as since the village shop is closed it supplies all your necessities like milk and bread etc if you run short. We ate here twice and I will make special...mention of the home made pies which are outstanding and the best I’ve ever had and I’ve had a few! There’s a really nice ambiance here and if you get the chance to chat to a few of the locals you will find they are generous and welcoming people. Lovely pub Lovely Village.More

Sarah and Tia, were incredibly nice, efficient and helpful with everything and definitely deserve a raise. We didnt feel rushed at all and...had a great night out. We had the mussels which were some of the best we have had and the tagliatelle and burger were also as good. Will definitely be going here again on our next holiday!More

We were staying in the local area and were told about the pub in the visitors book. Visited on a Thursday just for a few beers. All reasonably priced as beer goes nowadays, was really nice to see the village up there supporting the pub...and was surprisingly busy for a Thursday evening. Nice, friendly staff, the food looked great too!More

Stayed for 3 nights and, 4me, location was a prime consideration. The comfortable accommodation was in a separate unit, with a stunning view. Breakfasts are excellent. Andy, the chef, services the whole operation with friendly, calm efficiency. Dinner is waitress served: offhand to attentive, depending...on who's on. The food's very good. I am vegetarian and chose from the menu 1night; and negotiated an excellent alternative on a 2nd. It wasn't a problem 4me that the room wasn't serviced throughout my stay. The whole feel of the Inn is pub rather than hotel. Location is ideal for Fleecehaven and Exmoor.More

Me and my 5 fellow bikes had a purpose. To ride the A39 from Falmouth to Bridgewater with an over night stay at the Poltimore Inn. We had planned our stay after seeing Alan and grabbing a leaflet on the place. Biker friendly he said,...and it certainly was. We had a great stay in the 3 booked lodges, evening meal, beer and pool table fun followed by a great nights sleep. Wholesome breakfast before re-joining the A39 for our onward trip. Great place and would definitely recommend a stay over, even if your not into bikes.More
