For the last night of our Dorset holiday I let my husband choose the restaurant and he picked Poco. I am not a massive fan of pizza so was a bit gritted teeth but luckily made the booking to be squeezed in at 6pm.
Such a small little restaurant and we were quickly collected, taken up the narrow, steep stairs and allocated our seats. The menus were all around you on the walls so no paper menus which is great given the times!
I straight away noticed the size of the pizzas and decided on no starter but bless him my husband always has to have a garlic bread with the pizza. When they arrived his eyes really bulged with terror at the size of his meal! The choices are pretty good and something for every type of pizza lover and I loved the open plan kitchen where you could see the pizza being prepared and then fired in the big stone oven (how they got that oven up there is genius).
For such a tiny restaurant it delivers such great service and the staff were wonderful and so friendly. We opted for no knife and fork which quickly my husband regretted his decision and relented. I stuck to my guns and ate the traditional and messy way. The pizza was so tasty and cooked perfectly. Proper traditional bases topped with a multitude of fantastic flavours, it really was well worth it!
Somehow we managed to finish but left no room for dessert, I definitely recommend going with a very empty tummy!
Such a fabulous atmosphere and I totally think booking ahead here to guarantee a table is a must. Lovely place and lovely people!

We arrived at Poco Pizza at about 20:15 on a Friday night having driven down from the Midlands (we had booked). We were immediately made to feel welcome and settled in with a much needed beer. We both chose the special and we were not disappointed. Absolutely delicious. This place isn’t cheap but it well worth as due to the exceptional quality of the ingredients. Great food, ambience and music! We will definitely be back when next in Lyme.

Called on arrival at the start of our weeks holiday, as even living as far as derbyshire we had heard from friends about poco pizza, left a message on the answer phone requesting a table reservation. Recieved a call within the hour advising of a table available that evening. Due to covid restrictions we were given full advise regarding arrival and a member of staff let us in and showed us to our table. Staff are smashing, very obliging, happy to change the odd topping on pizzas if choice and indecisiveness becomes a tempting issue. Really warm, welcoming service and very tasty food, very light on the tummy so you walk away feeling full and fulfilled but not stodged and heavy, so even a later booking wouldnt sit heavy for the night. Staff boxed up the leftovers for us to take home. Theres no rush or haste with our reservation. Cant wait to return, delicious 😋

We visited as a group of six adults as part of a birthday celebration weekend in Lyme Regis - our table was booked well in advance. At no point were we told that we only had 90 minutes at our table as it was booked for another party. It is now clear that they jiffy everyone along to get the tables used for two bookings during their 4 hours of opening. We were left without time for desserts and having just ordered another round of drinks felt under pressure to knock them back quickly. Having spent £180 in such a short space of time left us in a state of shock. We headed to the Pilot Boat for more drinks and dessert. During our three days in Lyme Regis this was the only time we were made to leave our table after a fixed time. We spent close to £400 in Swim the evening before and were never under pressure to leave. We will go back to Swim. Aside from the pressure to leave the meat platter starters and pizzas were delicious.

I’m sorry that you were unhappy and we did rearrange the tables so that you could stay for 2 hours on your table.
I think the real reason you left disappointed is that you demanded a discount and we did not oblige as your reason for wanting a discount is that you fitted our old oven 5 years ago....I knew you would do this!

Extremely disappointing, we had booked a table for 5 people over 10 days earlier only to find out when we turned up that they had put a line through our booking supposedly claiming it had been cancelled; leaving us with no place to eat on a Saturday night. We only found this out after they had left us waiting outside for 10 minutes along with a few other also unhappy groups trying to pick up takeaways. When expressing our frustration at being left with no table we were met with a very dismissive response that in essence was saying that it wasn’t their problem and there was nothing they could do. Obviously this only made us more upset especially since one in our party had driven 3 hours to join us for the weekend and had been looking forward to her first night in Lyme. The only solution they could give us was that they would call us if there was a cancellation later on but since it was 7:30pm we weren’t going to sit around waiting for several hours on the hopes there ‘might’ be a cancellation.
When walking away around 15 minutes after our original booking time there was quite clearly a table on the terrace the right size leaving us extremely confused why we had been turned away upset and annoyed when there was a table free.
Since there are plenty of wonderful places in Lyme with better service I would not recommend booking a table at Poco that could end up being cancelled anyway.

We were very sorry that your table was accidentally cancelled and apologised profusely. We offered you a table inside or as soon as one became available (the other table on the balcony was booked for 7.45) neither of these options suited you. You were extremely aggressive and insisted we remove someone else from their table so you could come in and you made my waitress cry as you were so offensive.

Great location overlooking the beach, nice atmosphere and friendly staff, but let down by a lack of culinary skills. Chef would do well to visit a good Italian restaurant to see how to make pizza. Very disappointing pizza swamped in tomato sauce and thick melted cheese. Couldn't pick up a slice of pizza without the topping all sliding off in a horrible gooey mess. Had to resort to using knives and forks to eat, and we joked we needed spoons to eat. Never seen so many napkins used to clean up the mess. Service was friendly, but inattentive, and failed to notice when customers might have liked more drinks. Overall, a very disappointing experience. Won't be returning unfortunately.

One of my favourite pizza places! Generous topping which were fresh and delicious and dough that was thin but crisp at the edges. A proper wood fired pizza! The staff are always super friendly and the tasteful decoration creates a warm atmosphere. We stay at Lyme a lot and Poco Pizza is always top of the list of places to eat as we’ve always been more than delighted with there pizza and service!

Poco pizza can easily be described as unique (in a very good way). It is tiny, with only 4 or 5 tables inside and maybe the same outside so definitely book ahead if you can.
The décor is informal but fun and befits its location right by the harbour. The outside tables have a fantastic view if the weather is kind enough.
As I said, it is small so don’t expect it to be a quiet and restrained restaurant. Its up a narrow set of stairs, and you have to circumnavigate the stock of wood that they use for the pizza oven. The staff are trying not to trip over each other, and the kitchen is open plan so there is lot of hustle and bustle, but that made it a fun dinner!
The menu is not huge, but that is a good thing as this meant the focus could be on the quality of the ingredients. The pizzas were delicious and well sized; there have been comments on how thin the pizza baes were but for me they were authentic (or at least authentic based on pizza I’ve had in Italy anyway).
The only area that we did feel needs addressing was the bar service. They did not serve spirits such as vodka and the main staple was beer and wine, so my wife had to go ‘off piste’ with her drinks selection. We got talking to a local couple who said that this was normal, the chap was a whiskey drinker but had to go with limoncello and lemonade as they did not serve his favourite tipple.
So my only suggestion (not a criticism as the food and the environment were great) would be to try and expand the drinks menu to make it a fantastic place, not a good one. But I have recommended Poco’s to friends that were visiting Lyme Regis and I would go back.

It's a great place but it's so difficult to get to eat there! It books very, very quickly. However, we did manage one evening, so keep trying! The pizza is good as long as you like thin and crispy - and they are loaded with toppings. Wine wasn't brilliant and a bit pricey however you can't fault the welcome and attentive service - when you get in...

Always visit Poco Pizza when in Lyme. The garlic bread is fabulous and the Pizzas are amazing.Although they have moved to a larger location a few yards away they have retained the friendly welcoming manner.
The new premises are larger and have an outside balcony with about 4 tables where you can eat (with your well behaved dog).
Recommend the garlic bread and the goats cheese and toasted veg pizza.
Love the pizzas so much we’re back on Thursday.

Lovely atmosphere, fantastic views, very friendly & welcoming staff. We had a platter to share for starters which was a good appetiser not too much. Pizzas were delicious & watching the staff make the pizza in front of you is an added bonus. Recommend the Pinot Grigio Rose! We really enjoyed our Friday evening visit, a great spot on the seafront

Like all restaurants in Lyme at the moment getting a table takes a lot of effort. Good to see everywhere busy though. Pizza was great, really thin crust and the spicy one had ventricina salami - my favourite. We would go again next week but getting a table is too much hassle.

We booked for an early dinner at 5pm, which is when the restaurant opens. We were seated quickly and our drinks order was taken. Once the drinks had been delivered our food order was taken. As it was the summer I expected the restaurant to be busy, so I wasn't expecting lightning quick service. However after being in the restaurant for over an hour I thought I'd go and ask how long it usually takes to get served. I was told 15-20 mins, which seems fair to me. I explained that we had been waiting for over an hour, which was met with surprise and a throwaway apology. " Oh sorry about that". The food eventually arrived after another 15 minutes. Pizzas tasted good but the experience was spoiled by having to wait for so long and the staff not really appearing to care about the poor service. Hopefully just a one-off but without an explanation I'll never know.

I’m sorry you had to wait for your food. We are extremely busy at the moment and as most hospitality businesses are finding we have several staff off due to being ‘pinged’ and are finding it extremely hard to find new staff. We are trying our best to feed everyone as quickly as we can.

Messaged Poco Pizza on Facebook messenger weeks before visiting the area to enquire about a takeaway reservation as we knew how busy they got during holiday seasons. Was instructed to ring on the day and leave a message and that it was a first come, first served basis. So, rang at 9am on the day, and was prompted to leave a voicemail, no instructions on what details they needed so left my name and order. Rang later in the day to be told that because I didn’t leave a number, my order was not accepted and that they were full for takeaway orders. Very frustrating as we did as we had been told, yet no apology from the lady on the phone for the poor communication on their behalf. Very unimpressed and won’t be going back.

Never had to walk out of a restaurant before anytime in my life, anywhere in the world until now. Take a bow Poco Pizza, first and last visit to this place.
Yes orders do get forgotten , but to sit at an empty table for 75 minutes while the staff just waltzed by attending to everyone else and not noticing is beyond belief. When we first complained we were told that the pizzas were in the oven, at the second complaint we were told they were being prepared for the oven.
What really sealed the deal was then being told " what do you want us to do about it ", no apology at all ,just being surrounded by staff lacking any customer service.
Luckily another local establishment, despite being in the process of closing for the evening managed to supply us with food.
Perhaps Pocos just assumed we were here today gone tomorrow tourists, but in fact we are local business owners ourselves and will certainly not be recommending this place to any of our clients.

To date since taking over ownership of the restaurant in March we have had an overwhelming amount of positive feedback.
However, occasionally the team will make a mistake but we will always attempt to rectify it.
We made a mistake on your order and the ticket wasn't handed to the kitchen. The waitress in question was mortified when she realised this and quickly apologised. As did every other member of staff on shift, including both business owners, and your your order was placed to the front of the queue immediately.
As our pizzas are hand made to order, we cannot instantly magic up an order - we have to roll the dough, add the toppings and then cook the pizza in our wood fired oven. But in the time that this was happening, you shouted in the faces of every member of staff in a manner that other diners commented on as 'really out of order'.
The hospitality industry is struggling for staff in part due to customers behaving in an unacceptable manner - and I certainly don't expect any members of our staff to be treated in that manner.
To suggest that there was no apology at all is frankly incredible. And you were in fact asked 'What else can we do to make it right" which was a genuine request as to how we could make up for our mistake.
With regard to your comment about tourists, I'm afraid that it says more about you than us - your business may think it's OK to treat tourists differently to locals, we certainly don't.
We're very surprised to hear that you own a local business or care about our lovely town, as we would expect a business owner to know better how to complain appropriately and how to behave in a restaurant.
