We’re local but it’s 1 pub never tried till friends said they were regulars and a must try so we did and great garden, great staff everything great until… THE FOOD 🥘 ok we all have off days but the rack of ribs at £17...better be great I thought and the plate came out looking great but hot plates so just heated up packed food but looked great, NO meat at all just bones / fat / gristle I REALLY MEAN NO MEAT absolute pitiful quality looked like off cuts so great staff said no problem il speak to kitchen, reply was 25% off or free dessert well I don’t want dessert and £4:25 off something I didn’t eat is wrong so I said NO so back to kitchen embarrassed as said I’d have to speak manager but guess what they wouldn’t come out kitchen and eventually gave in and took off my bill. Wanted a new pub and loved the look and want to help get pubs going again and we frequent pubs everyday locally for food etc but the fact they argued the food when clearly no argument shows it’s a down hill slope for this place. Pleasant pub set in a small Dorset village, near Sturminster Newton. The comfortable interior has been tastefully modernised. Served by a particularly friendly and attentive young lady, there were a couple of ales to choose from, my choice being an excellent pint of locally brewed...Sixpenny Gold. There is an extensive if straightforward menu which should have something for everone, but don't expect to find anything really exciting on there. I opted for the Chicken Curry which was well prepared and came with all the usual accompaniments and was reasonably priced at £11.95. There is also a beer garden.More

My boyfriend and I visited the Saxon Inn after walking up Hambledon Hill, and instantly felt welcomed by the kind female member of staff behind the bar. She helped enquire as to whether an item on the menu was available as a vegan option, and...was just very kind and friendly. The pub garden was lovely and the food very tasty. A really pleasant experience all around! Thanks to the team member for the great service. Will definitely be returning!More

After enjoying a delicious dinner for two last week, we visited again today, taking hubby's Mum along with us too. Once more the food and service were faultless. Can't wait to visit again to try out more of their menu.

Friendly staff, good service and food above average for a village pub. Covid secure and participating in the eat out to help out scheme. What's not to like?

Went for an evening meal with friends, only 6 other people in the restaurant and yet it took a hour and a quarter from the time we ordered to get our meals. The food was ok though.

Wanted to take mum and kids out for a treat after Christmas, having a break from cooking. Fabulous Fish and Chips and super sized portions!

Craig and Emma are new tenants and are already making their mark. Well prepared and presented menu covers most tastes. A comprehensive wine list and well stocked bar make this a good destination and locals pub.

Since our promise to Helen and Peter to return after last year's successful choir Christmas dinner, the Saxon Inn has changed hands. I am delighted to report that the new team under Craig and Emma did us proud this year. The food, drink and service...was - again - first class and great value. Nothing was too much trouble and we all left having enjoyed a cracking evening.More
