Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The pub was very busy and the staff, I have to say, were lovely. I ordered crab linguine, but what I was served I can only describe as looking like a spaghetti bolognaise with mince. I started to eat it, but it tasted strange and...the crab (that looked like browned mince) was hard. I ate it because I'm not a crab connoisseur and thought that maybe this was how it should be. However, I had to mix it with tomato sauce to make it edible. Within an hour of eating it I was violently ill at the hotel we were staying in (Samuel Pepys - along the road from the Alma). I did send a message to the Alma the next day on their website page, but did not get a response. Would not recommend this place.More

Superb food; locally sourced skate wing, cooked and served simply with a caper and burnt butter sauce, chips and salad: sublime! 😋 Great service, friendly and attentive staff: the best food at very affordable prices - what's not to like! 😄

We just love it at the Alma. Been several times since I read in the EDP it had won awards for pub and B&B of the year. The food is sublime, the staff are brilliant and so helpful and friendly. Nick has added 4 new...rooms which are lovely and as quirky as the originals. Can't wait to see what the new dining room is like the next time we visit which I hope will be very soon. Thank you to all at The Alma for another excellent stay (special mention to Maria).More

We had great food, good drinks and a friendly atmosphere.....but oh so long waiting for the food. We were told that none of the food is cooked in advance which caused a delay but it certainly was quite a wait But I shall no doubt...be back at the Alma before long as there's a lot going for it and the food is good!More

Thanks Paul, sorry you had to wait longer than you anticipated. You are quite right in saying nothing is pre-cooked so things do sometimes take a fair while to cook. If you are starving or in a rush next time you're here ask your server...More

This is such an amazing place. The beers are great, the atmosphere is fantastic in both the inside and outside and the staff friendly, quick, fun and great. However, the best is the fantastic food of the pub. The local fishes like the dover sole...and a kind of ray were excellent. This is such a good spot to go in Harwich!More

Excellent as usual. We went for lunch, friendly greeting as soon as we entered. Decided to sit outside, pleasant seating area. Beef and ale pie and pork belly . Very good portions, well presented and cooked. It must be popular, bar was very busy and...food coming out continually. Well done, keep it going.More

The Alma Inn was booked for a cheeky birthday weekend away, it offered sea food, BBQ night, Boats, Sea Side, Beaches and accommodation that essentially was dog friendly enabling me to celebrate getting old with the puppy :) The Alma Inn publicised a BBQ/Steak night...for the Friday night of our visit, this was superb and ticked all the boxes on my wish list, breakfast was top drawer too, like Dinner, the base ingredients were quality, locally sourced and fresh and well prepared, cooked and presented, we had Lobster on our second evening, large, fresh and well prepared and cooked the lobster was delicious, great atmosphere, great room too even if the bath was a little unorthodox, all in all, 11/10 a great place to have been for the weekend.More

This restaurant had been recommended by a number of people and rightly so it seems. Apparently the Southwold bitter was about as good as beer gets and I had a choice between Pepsi (on tap and no thanks) or Diet Coke bottled. We selected the...seafood platter @£50 and I was worth every penny. Half a lobster each, cockles, anchovy, smoked mackerel pate, proper smoke house smoked salmon, gravadlax, shell on prawns, oysters, bread - a really good mix. Everything was wonderful but if I have one teeny gripe, I felt the shell on prawns were not as tasty as they possibly could be. However they were absolutely edible and my husband proved it by scoffing the lot. Add excellent service and you have the perfect lunch!More

We tried to book a table the night before going but everything went wrong with the link to pay a deposit. We also sent an email and tried phoning but this place is busy. We turned up on the night and explained the issues with...booking as they had no record of my email and they were extremely busy. However the staff couldn't have been more understanding or helpful, they rearranged tables so we could sit and eat. My wife had the lobster which she described as probably the best she had eaten and I had traditional Fish and Chips, the batter was light and crispy and the fish tasted really good, my daughter wasn't particularly hungry so she had a starter and that was a good size to start with. The drinks were good, again my wife thought the wine serve was better than a standard table wine you find in a pub and we were able to bring the dog in too. We were getting the ferry back to Hoek of Holland later that day and it made a perfect end to our holiday.More
