Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Booked for Sunday lunch in advance. The vegetables were very nice, however the meat was not nice, very tough and fatty, which is a shame. The position of the table wasn’t ideal (other tables were available) as it was by the door, which caused a...draught, when other customers & deliveries were made. Lacking in ambience. The staff were polite however lacking in training. Won’t bother returning, very disappointed especially because the meal was for a special guest occasion.More

Really nice pub with great food. Meat platter and Camembert starters were very good and great steak and ale pie and chips with tasty well cooked veg. Recommended

Disappointing… waiting staff super miserable and unhelpful. Ordered kids meals which the menu said came with beans but were served peas. When questioned, the peas were returned and we were told they had run out of beans. It seemed like the staff couldn’t care less...about anyone or anything! Beef was cut very thick, chewy and was nowhere near pink. The wine was nice but not at £10 per 250ml!!! Too expensive for the poor quality. Bar staff were lovely but that’s probably my only positive.More

We booked a table for a family meal inc myself and my three adult children. Good service at the bar and excellent menu. Good waiting staff, prompt and efficient. We had to cut short our meal as we received some bad news, and the manager...of the pub was so very accommodating and understanding, I could not fault him. Would thoroughly recommend this lovely pub.More

Really friendly staff who have no idea how to run an English pub. Food kindly served and inedible: breakfast fruit resembled zoo rations, stewed lukewarm coffee, unscrambled scrambled egg and missing ingredients . Comfortable clean bedroom upstairs but bar/dining room lacking atmosphere. Staff trying hard...but miss by a very long mile..More

We went with our friend for lunch. We found the Kilcot lacking in atmosphere and very sparse. Nothing n the blackboard, no specials. We also found the menu hasn’t changed this year. No local wines, veg or fruit. Our lunch was very disappointing, the steak...and ale pie was dry, just looked like it had been reheated and not freshly cooked. My husband enjoyed his fish and chips, but mind was lacking the fish, the plates were cold, the chips over done so were the peas. The pudding sticky toffee pudding was definitely not home made, it was a square of chocolate sponge, a very small scoop of ice cream, and heated in the microwave. I didn’t like to compas it was a treat for us from our dear friend. After we left our friend said himself how dissatisfied he was with the meal and that he will not be going back again, I have to agree. This place is going down hill, the cost and quality is far from what you expect.More

Food was between mediocre and terrible. The following items were just about OK - burgers, chicken supreme, haloumi fries, camembert. The steak was extremely thin, very poor quality and totally overcooked. The gammon was tough and inedible. £180 poorer and would have had better food...in a greasy spoon cafe. We have eaten here many times in the past ( although not in the last year or so) and enjoyed it, very sad to say we won't be back unless there is a huge change.More

We had a great experience here three weeks ago on a midweek evening. Excellent pork belly slice and fish and chips with a pint or two big wonderful Wye Valley Hereford Pale ale. We were severed by the proprietor. On the back of this 5...star experience It was so good we returned with our adult children for a pre booked meal. 45 minutes after we arrived and ordered we were informed that due to a miscommunication between kitchen and front of house that which we had ordered was not available. We waited a further 15 minutes for our meal. Two of the staff were very cheery the other did not seem to like her job. So sadly it’s only three stars when it could so easily have been 5More

The food was good but the experience was let down by mostly very poor service. Apart from one very friendly member of staff, the rest were generally unhelpful. We had to ask them to take our order and then we waited an hour for our...food which was brought out over the course of about 20 minutes so the first arrivals were almost finished before the rest of us received ours. There were also not enough chips so the last order of fish and chips came with sweet potato fries. The puddings then took about half an hour to arrive after this. I appreciate staffing in hospitality can be challenging, but, there was lack of care and accountability from most of the team here. I wouldn’t return.More

Went for my Dad's birthday a couple of weeks ago. Landlord was evidently doing his best on a very busy night. The food we had was good - two of the four of us had a chicken dish and they were very complimentary about it....Dad's order had been taken wrong (bearing in mind it was his birthday) and when his fish and chips came, he had to ask for the peas... to which the waitress actually rolled her eyes. I don't think I've ever, ever encountered such a miserable waitress. I've done her job for many years and she could not have cared less. It made the whole experience pretty awkward to be honest. I notice the pub is now recruiting, so hopefully they will find someone smiley, who is glad to interact with customers and who is fitting of what could still be a really good pub, as the food is pretty much there!More

Nice pub and very friendly staff but underwhelmed by the food. Our starters of chicken liver pate and deep fried coated goats cheese were served promptly but we waited an age for our fish and chips. When the fish & chips arrived we were disappointed...by the rather soggy chips and the fish was only ok. Overall rather disappointing.More

Disappointed on arrival, due to the establishment being below the temperature that is expected ! Woodburner off and a tiny fan heater that certainly wouldn’t keep the place warm enough. Starter - both good Mains - both good But one main totally the wrong one...and I’d eaten my meal by the times my wife’s arrived so not good on a Valentines evening. In the way of compensation we were giver a free drink each Would have preferred to eat at the same time as each other. The waitress was so miserable and sour faced, not very welcoming for customers. Although the food was of a good quality the overall experience was not one I would return for.More
