Six of us called in for a couple of drinks on a walk from Middleham. Lovely welcome from delightfully friendly staff and perfect pints of Timothy Taylors Landlord. Serious food envy seeing the party alongside us being served with pies, sausages, fish and chips etc...though we only intended to stop for a drink (several tables were booked for a wake and the lady behind the bar apologised that the kitchen would already be too busy to offer us lunch). A truly lovely little pub!More

My reservation lost. Not bothered their mistake, Felt a total inconvenience, begrudgingly given table in dirty dark corner with time limit. Sunday roast disgusting, veg not as staff said. Beef wafer thin, pink, red an blood oozing. Potatoes so hard knife wouldn’t cut, Yorkshire pud...not fresh cooked soggy, squashed In cauliflower cheese. Plate and food stone cold. Eventually managed to ask for hot gravy. No point in complaining staff too busy chat with locals hogging bar space. Run by amateurs. Cancelled my booking for family meal following week. Its dirty, staff scruffy, lousy food, unfriendly and I’m local, don’t botherMore

We have been coming to this pub since 2009 and have never had a bad meal…the food was always delicious 😋 However, new owners have taken over and this was the first time we have visited since. On our arrival we noticed all the tables...had been reserved barring one in the corner which we promptly sat at as lots of other people were coming in. We explained to the girl behind the bar that we’d been trying to phone all morning to book a table but there was no answer. She just shrugged her shoulders and didn’t really explain why, however we heard them chatting amongst themselves and the word hangover was mentioned..say no more! We’d just sat down when one of the bar staff walked over and plonked a reserved sign in front of us.. we were then told there was a table near the fire that was spare. It was a tiny table right next to the entrance to the dining room so people were walking past constantly which I didn’t like as we had our two small poodles with us. My chair was directly next to the fire.. which I’m pleased to say was not roaring or I’d have roasted! My partners food arrived first, he’d ordered the roast beef dinner which looked okay, my steak pie arrived about 5 minutes later. It was awful 😣 the veg, though nicely cooked was stone cold.. the chips were pale limp and greasy and the pie.. well, the pastry was the thinest I’d ever seen and it was barely cooked on the top and completely raw at the bottom, the steak inside was bland, fatty and tasteless in a pale watery gravy much like what was in the jug on the side of my plate. My partner said his beef was thin as paper, plus his veggies, what little he got were cold too. Such a disappointment, we used to absolutely love this pub, but we won’t be returning nor would I recommend it to anyone elseMore

Been here many times over the years to enjoy their home cooking and particularly their homemade steak pies. This seems to have now stopped and been replaced with a tasteless shop bought tin foil pie and smaller portions. Such a shame. From a wonderful place...to come and eat, to a standard pub meal, probably won't be back.More

Pies are still homemade 👍 shame you thought otherwise, we take it as a compliment you would think they’re bought in.

Great traditional pub and super dog friendly - great real ales on the bar, everybody was really friendly and inside the pub has been left alone as it was years ok - we sat outside and it was really nice

I particularly like the hot shot chicken parma with chips, salad and mayo covered in cheese costing £13.50. The "hot" is the chilli. It goes even better with the Dinga - Dinga real ale at 4% volume which has fruity hops and costs £4.05. Sadly...the barrel ran dry when I was there so had to switch to an alternative. Car park is opposite the pub and you have to cross the road to get there so beware traffic including farm machinery. Kitchen open Monday to Sunday 12:00 to 21:00. We dined in the snug and at one point we were the only ones without the obligatory dog, also young children were present, try not to trip over either. The gents toilets are outside and at the rear. Lift the handle not the plate on the entrance door. Genuine country pub selling real ale, well worth a visit.More

The two of us fancied a night away in the Dales and this didn’t disappoint. It’s a lively, atmospheric pub with friendly and welcoming staff and an inviting and cosy interior. We had a pleasant lunch of ham sandwiches, served with fresh salad and crisps....Hubby was more than happy with the wide choice of local draught beers and ciders. I’m a gin and tonic drinker and the array of local gins was impressive too. We ate dinner here and they offer well cooked traditional pub food, consisting of homemade steak pie, fish and chips, curry and pasta dishes and steaks as well as a good choice of desserts too. The accommodation didn’t disappoint. We had a twin doggy friendly room overlooking the beer garden. Immaculately clean, crisp white bedding, white fluffy towels and a more than adequate en suite. Hearty breakfast in the morning too. There are some great walks nearby and some lovely villages to visit a short distance away. All in all, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and we look forward to returning.More

Stopped here on the way back from the 3 peaks. Staff friendly. Good outside dining next to the river. Over 10 taps of beers, lagers & cider. Food prompt, tasty and good value. If you’re in a camper van you can stop over in the...car park too (no facilities just beautiful view). Definitely recommend.More

Beautiful location, all the food we ordered was excellent but a special mention for the steak pie which was the best we've had in a long while, pastry and filling delightful. Home made chips perfectly cooked as was everything else. Only disappointed that we were...too full to try the very temtping deserts. A great selection of beers and ciders. The Inn is old, characterful and charming with a very pretty garden leading down to the river. Musical instruments gave a clue that evenings there must be great fun. Dogs very welcome. Great atmosphere, staff friendly and efficient. Highly recommend.More

Had a great late lunch on a Thursday in half term. Pub was recommended by a local horse trainer and we were delighted to try it. Small, cosy pub rooms, with roaring fire and it was busy with walkers and their dogs. We were told...we would have to wait 20 mins for the food as there was a backlog but that wasn't a problem. Food arrived and the portions were huge. We had the homemade pie, scampi and the gammon&eggs and a childrens meal of chicken nuggets. The gammon was half the size of the plate and our 13year old was delighted. Absolutely delicious. We were so full that there wasn't any room for dessert but they happily arranged for us to take dime bar pie, sticky toffee pud and chocolate fudge cake away with us. Staff were friendly and I'd love to return in the Summer to sit in their beer garden after a walk around the dales.More

Second time here after a previous fairly poor visit to give benefit of the doubt with it being a very local pub restaurant to my sisters house. Not changed a bit. We called to check there was space for us which we were assured there...was and booked. We turned up and were sat in the restaurant part which was great - nice fire roaring and good size table - only to realise that there was a table of elderly gentlemen playing dominos on a plastic tray on the table behind! It was so loud every couple of minutes mixing the dominos back up that all 3 children were complaining and covering their ears (we literally couldn’t hear each other talk). This in my opinion should not be happening in a restaurant but in the bar which is a louder area more suitable for this. They came to take an order for food and were a bit funny about getting drinks too so we went to the bar for them and put them on our tab. Chef then came and advised food may be a while as they had an order to put out for 24/25 pies or something. I just asked that they bring the kids out as a priority as it was already 1:30pm and they were hungry. We could wait. It would have been nice to know this when we booked 15 minutes before arriving! Food came out and the kids lasagne looked not too bad from the top but then it was clear it was very dry, not much sauce if any at all, and believe it or not no pasta sheets throughout any of it except maybe 1 layer under the bechamel sauce…..the kids weren’t too keen on it and 2 of them left most of it. I got the cannelloni which was nice but some of the underside pasta was a bit chewy like it hadn’t been cooked long enough. The salad was fresh and nice leaves and the tomato sauce on the cannelloni was also not too bad. The chips however looked shrivelled like they had been deep fried about 6 times and weren’t very nice. My sister had sausage egg and chips. Her chips were the same and the sausages also deep fried within an inch of their lives and very cheap tasting! She did however say her fried eggs were nicely cooked. A side of onion rings was also ordered to share but these too were almost inedible as the onion inside was very chewy and not pleasant. We did politely mention our disappointment to the waitress clearing the table and she said she would pass this on but from that moment no one came back to the table, no apology or explanation and no one came to see if we wanted to order dessert or coffee. We waited 10 mins maybe more then had to just get up and go to the bar and pay on our way out as we basically just got left to it from the moment they cleared the table! There is a lovely hour long walk from my sisters to the pub on a nice day but sadly we won’t be doing this again.More
