What a great place! This cafe sits above the Gairloch museum and is a great find. Access to the cafe is free although the museum is also worth a visit.
The cafe opened earlier this year and it’s already providing a great addition to the Gairloch food offer.
The food is fresh, local and delicious with a tremendous selection of fresh cakes. The staff are very helpful and seem to love their work. Highly recommended.

Literally writing the review while sitting in cafe and enjoying the view on the sea. Straight away lovely welcome from ladies at museum reception following another cheerful welcome from cafe staff. We were hungry for some breakfast and even they haven't served lunch til 12 the lady offer us other option of delicious sour dough served with black puding, bacon and poached eggs. Served with smile and lovely chat. All you need to brighten your day! Please come and visit this place and the museum

I want to be positive but today's experience was disappointing, hopefully just a bad day.
There's no "wait to be seated" sign so during the lunchtime rush people were sitting down without realising they needed to wait, ourselves included. This led to a rather flustered waitress and long waits to be served. Seems a simple remedy to put signs up so unsure why they haven't tbh.
The food is good, its different but its not ideal if you need anything plain due to health conditions/neurodiversity. I asked if the children's cheese toastie was just cheese and bread as my autistic adult friend couldn't have anything else on the menu. I was assured it was and also questioned over an adult having a child's meal. It was a cheese toastie but came with salad and potato salad which he was unable to eat. I just think some awareness that some people need plainer food than the weird and wonderful flavour combinations would be a good idea, especially at the higher prices they're charging than a regular cafe. With no menu available until you've sat down, it's difficult to plan around dietary needs.
The food is carefully prepared, well presented and came relatively quickly it was just the lack of food choice for simpler tastes and the struggling waitress that led to our disappointing experience.

Had a nice walk around the museum then called at the cafe. Staff were polite and asked us to take a seat and they would come snd take our order. After approx 10 minutes we asked if someone would take our order (staff member stated oh sorry we had a flurry of customers and forgot to come back to you). We ordered three cups of tea a prawn sandwich and a tray bake however after 45 minutes no sign of it. A young waiter approached us and apologised for our wait and offered us a jug of water whilst we waited as they had ran out of tea pots. We declined the water but was given the option to change our order so we chose coffee. We waited a further ten minutes for our order.
Food was ok. Coffee was hot and nice but not what we wanted.
Note to cafe - but some more teapots.

We are so sorry that you had a bad experience at the cafe, Wednesday was an incredibly busy day and had caught us by surprise. An explanation but not an excuse! We offered to make your coffees complementary when it came to paying the bill, but the gentleman paying declined this offer. Please know that we really appreciate your feedback as it will help us to plan for the future and recognise where, this season we have been caught by surprise. I apologise again that the experience you had fell short of what we strive for at Am Bàrd Cafe.

Stopped in for lunch after having had a look round the museum (also well worth a visit).
We had lovely, freshly prepared soup and sandwiches and couldn't resist the temptation to sample the range of homemade cakes. The service was efficient and very friendly, our server was really great with our 3 year old Daughter.
To top things off, the views over Loch Gairloch are truly stunning. Highly recommended!

The Cafe is set upstairs of Gairloch Museum affording it fantastic views of the sea and islands beyond. The building is of interest itself being modern and contemporary with concrete finish and exposed services.
The service is friendly and the food is excellent and sensibly priced. We had hot smoked salmon and salad. The range of home made cakes and tray bakes will delight those with a sweet tooth. The Museum with its art gallery is a must visit. Great shop for cards and souvenirs. Highly recommend the cafe!

The food is superb, the service excellent, the staff are very friendly and welcoming and the views are gorgeous.
There is a great choice of home baked items whether you want lunch or morning coffee and cakes.
A wonderful place to drop in just for lunch or you could combine it with a wander around the award-winning museum.

Excellent soups, open sandwiches, paninis, really delicious scones and cakes. We tasted all these over several visits. From all tables the view over the loch is lovely. Between two of us we had two different soups, 2 different open sandwiches, scones, and a slice of ambrosial cake. I'd recommend any and all of them. The service is sometimes a bit slow because everything is prepared from scratch. You can see the chef working at one end of the space. The staff are welcoming and friendly. The cafe seems to be closed on Mondays (as well as Sundays when the Museum is closed) and is open 10 to 5 otherwise. We are booked to return to Gairloch and will certainly be back to this cafe.

Popped in to An Bard this morning after a blustery walk on the beach ! We were given a warm cheery welcome from all the staff who were busy in the cafe kitchen -all the baking and coking is freshly prepared in house .The menu provides a wide selection of delicious sweet treats and light lunch options .The cafe is attractively laid out with a balcony to enjoy on fine days giving amazing views over the sea to Skye .The coffee is first class and the scones, mine was a blueberry one this morning , are definitely the best in the West !! We highly recommend a visit -you will not be disappointed .

We popped in for coffee whilst visiting the museum but soon decided to stay for lunch. The Bacon, Brie and cranberry toastie was delicious, freshly cooked on tasty bread. Service was great from the friendly staff.
We'd certainly return here without any hesitation.

Opted to share 3 mains between two. The smoked Scottish Salmon was very tasty as was the very light and fluffy homemade quiche. Each dish was served with a delightful and tasty salad. The staff paid special attention to the presentation of each dish. We took home with us two scrumptious cakes! A great place to visit,

I visited recently with my daughter and mother in law. We really couldn’t have asked for better service! The food and surroundings were lovely, we had soup and cheese scones- both were delicious! However, it was the kindness and care of the staff with my young daughter which stood out most. Both ladies who served us, one of whom was called Babs went over and above to look after my daughter and give her attention. As a parent, it makes such a difference when eating out to be made to feel this welcome and to know your child is just as welcome! It made our visit so relaxing -so thank you! We all loved our visit and we’ll definitely be returning!

Whilst visiting the Gairloch museum we discovered the Am Bard cafe. The food was freshly prepared and delicious and they had a brilliant selection of home baking too! The coffee was the best coffee all holiday so we went back for a further two visits welcomed each time by the friendly staff. We would definitely recommend you visit the museum and the cafe and explore the Archaeological trail behind the museum too.

A group of six of us had lunch here. We all had soup & sandwiches or salad. Everything was freshly prepared and promptly served.
And I understand that you do not need to pay for museum entry if you simply want to visit the cafe.
However, the museum is excellent and well worth a visit too.
