While in the UK recently from Australia we arranged to catch up with our close friend Philippa living in Church Stretton, we caught the train from Great Malvern on Thursday 23/01/20, & our close friend strongly recommended we have a pub meal booked for midday at the Kings Arm. Without any disappointment the Food at the pub was delicious and well cooked, friendly staff & cosy atmosphere. Unsure on the cost of the food & drinks with our close friend insisting on paying for all meals & drinks a special treat for my 60th birthday 2 days later.

My friend and I chose here for lunch with her two young children (2&4). The waitress immediately sat us in a quiet table behind the bar which was perfect so the kids didn't disturb the other customers, we were close to the toilets and could spread out and make noise without worrying. The food was delicious. I had the steak pie - large and tender pieces of meat that just melted away. Crispy pastry, delicious buttery mash and an excellent selection of vegetables with gravy. I loved it. My friend had the ploughmans with no bread and extra salad. Her's was also delicious. The scotch egg was huge and looked particularly good. Her salad was varied and interesting and there was ample. The kiddies had nuggets and chips and lasagne and chips. The nuggets were lovely and big - good quality for a nugget! The lasagne was home cooked and again looked really tasty. Overall we were extremely satisfied with the food and service and the bill was a very reasonable £40. We will definitely return here on our next visit to the area.

Church Stretton is lovely but, we go there knowing we are having lunch at The Kings Arms. Very friendly staff, lovely pub and the food is second to none! Honestly, if you eat anywhere else in Church Stretton when you visit...stop! You wont be disappointed. This visit we ordered... 3 cokes 1 sparkling water Jacket with prawns Burger and chips Tagliattelle carbonara Ploughmans None of the party had food envy Came to just over £50 and worth every penny! Dont eat anywhere else!

Though this is a nice pub to spend a couple of hours, we were disappointed with the food which was rather average and quite pricy. However, the worst aspect was the slow and disorganised service. We were a large hiking group and though some members arrived early the pub insisted on serving everyone at the same time and (surprise, surprise) the kitchen was overwhelmed and the orders very slow to appear. The waiting staff also seemed unsure what food should go to what table and we were asked three or four times what we'd ordered (all orders sent in advance).

We either read reviews for a different place or the chef was off sick during our visit. The food was awful. Coming from a long hike we were starving and ordered three beef burgers. The menu did offer to add ingredients, but we weren't after additional cheese or bacon, so we foolishly declined - unaware of what lay ahead. After a short wait, an affable waitress brought our food. Surprise, disappointment, and admittedly some laughter were all we had to offer. To start, our burgers were plain. Bun, patty. That was it. No lettuce, no sauce, no slice of tomato, no gherkin or hint of effort. Just meat and bread. I mean, they added a side salad of raw onion and greens, so the chef was half way there. But instead we were left with buns clutching thick, salty slabs of beef. Even McDonald's throws in a cheeky pickle. These three breaded doorstops were served with warm bowls of coleslaw - one featuring small flecks of blue plastic - and a smattering of cardboard in the shape of chips. All in all, £12 per plate felt begrudging. We left feeling cheerless. And hungry. On the other hand, the staff were lovely. Our one star is for them. Truly disappointing.

We have recently returned from a short break in Church Stretton. While we were there we visited the kings arms on three occasions. We had a lovely meal which was inexpensive, hearty proper pub grub. I went for the mushroom stroganoff while my husband chose the steak and ale pie...both were delicious and we didn't realise until we paid the bill that they were actually using the eat out to help out scheme so we saved 30% on the food...fabulous! The staff were so so lovely warm and welcoming and covid conscious. Lovely cuddles with marmite the dog too! Hope to return on our next trip to the Shropshire hills.

Stopped for lunch whilst returning to North Wales 5/10/20 found this charming pub that’s full of “old pub character” could not have found a nicer place. Covid regulations were of very high standards, we were asked if we had a Covid app. Service was faultless and prompt in delivering our huge burgers with extra onion rings....to much to finish. We would have loved to stay during a cold winter night.

A rare gem - totally faultless. After a bracing 7 mile walk we could not have been more delighted to find the Kings Arms, a pub that is the best example of how pubs should be with excellent service from all the team. Eight of us were given an excellent table in a semi private area which was ideal and i genuinely don't think i've enjoyed bangers and mash as much as in this place ever. It's pub grub at its best and we all really appreciated the friendly service, traditional atmosphere and genuinely home cooked food made with care as well as quantity in mind!

We were staying a mile away for a week so ate here several times, lunch and dinner, and it ticked all our boxes each time. Prices were on par with other local pubs but the portions went a long way to replenishing the calories burnt walking up Long Mynd. and the sandwiches were great as well, so often pubs focus more on "real" food where the money comes from . Dog friendly? Absolutely, even our greyhound who does take up a bit of space. Was pretty full at the weekend, and then not in what I would consider the high season, so booking seems advisable. It is a Joules pub so there is a nice selection of beer. Staff were clearlly working hard when it was full but they managed admirably and kept the customers happy. Cannot fault the pub at all, Manager and staff are doing a great job

My son and I visited this pub after a long hike over the Stretton hills. From the outside the exterior of the pub is very attractive and gives the impression of being small. However, inside was like a tardis, as one area leads to another. It was a baking hot day and so we opted for a shady spot in the 'beer garden'. I must say that it was the finest such garden that I have ever had the pleasure to sit in. Bordered on one side by an attractive wall and flower bed. The waiting staff arrived in double quick time. Not one but two of them! Both were extremely pleasant and efficient and it was not long before we were tucking in to our respective meals. I had chosen the gammon and can only say that it was superb. I have a large appetite and do not, as a rule, find myself struggling to finish anything. However, on this occasion it was a close run thing 😄 My son plumped for the fish and chips and he too was not disappointed. Our meals were washed down with superb ales from the Joules range. We both agreed that you would have to travel a considerable distance before you found an equivalent meal in such surroundings and at a very reasonable cost. We will definitely be returning.

Having been on a bracing, slightly damp walk we decided to grab lunch in the pub rather than a sandwich and were greeted warmly by the chap behind the bar. They had all suitable covid precautions in place with the QR code visible front and centre. We ordered some beer (which the barman had good knowledge of incl breweries when asked about local brews) and perused the menu. We went for lasagne and cannelloni both of which were delicious. The garlic bread was very good indeed! Beer and food good, Prices very reasonable and service excellent. What not to like?!

Me and my family recently visited church stretton which is our favourite place , we came to this pub last year in august and we was very impressed with the food, service and yet again they didn’t disappoint us. We all have roast beef apart from my husband who had the pie. The beef was amazing and the vegetable was very tasty. Covid restrictions was applied , hand sanitisers was dotted around the place , the staff friendly , they welcomed us and ask us to sign in with the track and trace and we was seated at our table and our drinks order then food order was taken. We as a family felt safe the whole time we was here and we are defiantly going to visit this pub every time we come back to church stretton. What a great pub with excellent service.

I've called the hayloft the snug....and also the den but I now realise that the snug is on the other side of the bar and this where they can show the footy on a small TV when it's on BT Sport. A friendly crowd from Kent in there and big portions of pub favourites were soon being served up. The onion rings were the size of armbands at the pool. We had a few pints and sandwiches and chips. Really good value. Monk was off so we had the Pale then the Monk, good ales from Joules. Great service, friendly and efficient. Best all round pub in the village.

To start with the positives, it’s a beautiful building and the garden out the back was pretty and dog friendly. We’d just come from another pub 30 seconds away which was a lot busier and couldn’t seat us in it’s less nice garden. This place felt like a find - more attractive and emptier. Our drinks and food came quickly and the staff were friendly and professional. The amount of food on each plate was huge - they don’t stint at all on portions. Unfortunately all of our food was really bland. My macaroni cheese was unpleasant- the breadcrumbs on top were from a packet, the sauce didn’t taste of anything and the cheese was just melted gloop. No one in our group of four finished their plates or particularly enjoyed their lunch. Maybe the policy is to make up in quantity what the food lacks in taste and quality. Which is a shame really. I wouldn’t rule out coming back here for food (I’d definitely come back for a drink) but would probably try other places first.

We booked for 1pm and were welcomed by the staff who took us to our table straight away. We were first but soon filled up without being too crowded. Our orders for drinks arrived quickly and having looked at their usual menu decided to go for the Sunday Roast which was Pork. This again was produced within a few minutes and we noticed this was the same for most of the other diners. The 3 slices of pork were the size of 3 pork chops and my wife was not able to finish the 3rd.It came with roast potatoes, stuffing and crackling with separate side dishes of cauliflower cheese and 6 types of mixed vegetables. The only regret was that we did not have room to try their deserts.
