I have been to the Lake on many occasions now with Llandrindod being my closest town. Before the takeover by the new owners, the lake felt like a bit of a greasy spoon serving bog standard shop prepared meals and in all honesty was not somewhere I frequented but there has been a massive improvement in the quality of the food and atmosphere since then and I’ve been back on numerous occasions, since being recommended the roast dinners. Throughout Lockdown they have offered takeaway roast dinners as well as pizzas both of which you can instantly tell and taste as fresh home cooked meals. The roast dinners are a particular favourite in my household with a good array of choices of meat and delicious vegetables (which aren’t cooked to the point of oblivion!!) I also went to the Caribbean theme night and was blown away by the food! We had a bit of everything and couldn’t fault any of the dishes, the goat curry went down a storm! They were all served in a timely manner and the waiting staff were pleasant. The atmosphere was great and all tables were distanced appropriately and in line with local restrictions. We felt a little bit of normality attending and were delighted that the owners and the chef came out to see everyone at the end of the night. I will definitely be going to the next themed night, can’t wait to hear what it will be. Thanks to all for a wonderful night that gave us back a little bit of normality.

The lake is really special, we found it by chance. The dragon sculpture in the water is spectacular and the views are so nice, especially this time of year as the leaves start changing. We stopped off at the café for some hot chocolate and watched people feed the ducks and swans. Very peaceful.

We opted to eat in the terrace overlooking the lake. The menu was simple but a good variety of choices for lunch. The jacket potatoes arrived with plenty of cheese, accompanied by coleslaw and salad, really good portions. The rain arrived with the meal but didn’t last long so we weren’t distracted from enjoying our lunch! Good covid restrictions in place, polite staff and great views over the lake,

We arrived at 12.20 pm and sat at a table that was "Reserved from 1 pm. When I placed my order for food and drinks, I was told that there was insufficient time to eat my meal, as the Reservation had been brought forward to 12.45 pm, and that, because the staff were "new", the food (paninis) could not been cooked in time. Meanwhile, the preparation of the drinks continued apace, and we were told that there was time for us to have our drinks! Incidentally, when I gave one of the young women our completed Covid form, she was not interested in it... Customer Service and Communication was woefully lacking...Obviously, I can't comment on the food.

Arrived to find a long queue to order food at the counter but 4 staff standing around doing nothing. Each order was taking ages as instead of bringing tea/coffees to the table then the food when it was ready they were making the tea orders for the cusromers at the same time so the customers took the beveridges. Moronic. Ive never seen such a stupid system when there were staff standing around idle. In addition you have to find a table before ordering so how do you keep that table? Loads of empty tables but most reserved and no sign of customers. When i asked the staff to help as i had very young children who were tired and hungry they said sorry but just kept standing. A couple on a six table saw the problem and offered to share. I sat the children down and waited in queue where i could see them and they could see me and left the queue frequently to reassure them by asking other queuers to hold my place. All the time the staff stood around. Just then a staff member came up and asked the couple to move even though they were still eating. I left the queue as they wanted to move the children too. When i asked what they thought they were doing...they said the table was reserved even though there was no sign on the table. I again asked for help and they suggested leaving the children outside on the balcony! I asked if they could take an order and i would sit outside snd wait with them. The children were hungry and upset at being told to move by a stranger. They said no and still staff standing around. A cafe that treats young children like this is disgusting. Had to leave. This place is not worth booking. the lake is supposed to be a tourist spot but Id advised to bring a picnic. In fact id advise avoiding the town its a dump. Go to Rhayder lovely cafes and scenary great playground for children.

Thank you Beverly and all the team. We come regularly and it was the perfect choice for an afternoon tea wedding reception. It could not have been more perfect! We had the whole conservatory and it was beautifully laid out with crisp white table cloths and place settings provided. The staff were wonderful. The food was all home baked and included traditional teas, vegetarian teas and glutin free teas. One guest said "it was better the Fortnums and Masons"; another that it was "as good as Betties Tea Rooms" and several have told us that it was the best high tea that they had ever had. For us it was quite simply perfection.

After a disappointing Sunday lunch in Hay, this was a lovely surprise find the following day. The cafe is clean and bright with clear COVID advice and instructions. The menu was quite varied, with a selection of specials on a blackboard. Hubby ordered the ham salad with chips, and I ordered a tuna mayo jacket potato with salad. Our food was really tasty and plentiful….three thick slices of roast ham and I had more tuna than I could manage. Both salads were fresh and plentiful. The staff were friendly and efficient, clearing tables quickly, as it was busy. With tea for two the bill was less than £20, so excellent value as well. Well worth a visit..

I chose Lakeside for my special birthday celebration on the recommendation of someone else. We had the Sunday roast lunch option and could not be more delighted. It was delicious (being a picky eater myself that is no mean feat in itself), everyone said how lovely the food was and it was remarked upon that it was all piping hot, something which often lets down other establishments. Ample amounts of everything we could want in a good selection of fresh vegetables and meat. We were only sorry we could not manage a pudding because they too looked gorgeous. The staff were a delight, friendly, welcoming and extremely efficient. The icing on the cake, literally was when they presented me with a beautiful cake, complete with candles (not saying how many ) and everyone sang happy birthday to me. I could not be happier with my birthday lunch and would thoroughly recommend this brilliant eatery. Thank you.

The lunchtime food we chose (fishcakes, BLT, lakeside special toastie, brie & cranberry panini) were all superb and presented really nicely. Service was prompt and the staff were polite and helpful. We opted for cakes for dessert too, which were equally tasty. Such a lovely spot to visit on our holiday and it was so nice to sit outside and eat and enjoy the views over the lake.

Twice now i have been here and ordered a Vegan Cheese toastie and twice the meal has come with non vegan coleslaw on the plate. The first time this happened the waitress came over to me after 10 minutes of me receiving my food and told me 'btw the coleslaw is not vegan'. I told her that in future they should not put this on the plate as the meal is advertised as vegan, but i personally was fine to continue with my food and just leave it on the side. I tried to get the point across that this is really bad practice as people with allergies order vegan and this could have caused the cafe to be shut down if given to the wrong person. She couldnt understand my point and said 'but its fine as we make sure we tell people afterwards'. But after the plate has been put down may be too late for some people and cause an anaphylactic reaction, as i had already has my plate for 10 minutes before being told. She then went and spoke to the chef and came back out and said in future they are going to put the coleslaw in a pot on the side of the plate on the vegan meals instead. To which i said that is still so bad. It just shouldnt be on the plate at all. We left it at that as i dont think my point was getting across to the chef or the waitress. I then visited again last week and my sister ordered me a vegan toastie. Again, the meal came with non vegan coleslaw. This really needs to stop as you are going to give this to someone with allergies and this could shut the cafe down.

I am sorry that this happened and I can assure you that we have made changes in the kitchen to ensure that it does not happen again. We now have a vegan coleslaw and hope you will return on the future to try it

As everything opens up again, we fancied a trip out and the drive to Llandrindod is lovely and the location of The Lakeside, overlooking the lake, provides opportunity for a good meal, followed by a gentle walk. The 'dragon' from the title is a sculpture located within the lake, a homage to the Loch Ness Monster perhaps, but it provides a focal point. There are also a collection of red and green dragon pedaloes 'anchored' by an island in the centre of the lake. The Lakeside is on the first floor of a building overlooking the lake, ressembling a boathouse; a lovely, high ceilinged, light and airy environment, where you can either sit in the main section, out on the balcony or in the sun room to the side.

We had afternoon tea here to celebrate my daughter's birthday. It was exceptionally good, in fact it was the best afternoon tea I have ever had. The sandwiches were so fresh and tasty and the scones and cakes were delicious. The staff were very helpful and nothing was too much trouble. I have had afternoon tea in lots of places and big hotels in London and this beats them all hands down. Thankyou very much.

Had the same meal in a different place the week before for £5 less and this was far superior. You have to queue up to order and the food is over 30 mins to arrive but it was worth it. Good quality food in a gorgeous location for less.

What a trial trying to find a pub or cafe open. We stumbled over the Lakeside gave them a call they were open . We wanted a cream tea however they had sold out of scones. We chose their ham cheese onion and tomato toasty with a portion of chips and tea for two. Tea was good and strong. The toasty was filled with plenty of ham cheese onion and tomato. The chips were great skin on and fresh and crispy. Service was friendly all in all delicious. A good find the scenery is beautiful Give the place a try

Fantastic food. I had avocado and poached eggs on toast and my husband had the sausage, bacon and egg sandwich. A big thank-you to the friendly and helpful staff. Definitely worth visiting and we will go back..
