Wasn't impressed by the 10% service charge added to our bill, We like it to be our choice how much tip we give... Portion sizes were poor, considering the prices. We were going to order the Apple & blackberry crumble with custard but people on the next table had this & there was hardly any crumble...

Highly recommend this pub. I have had a number of meals here - including Sunday roast - and all have been superb. One member of our party wanted Harvey's (which didn't disappoint), and we all four had roasts. We felt the meal was great value and the staff, as ever, were extremely welcoming, friendly and accommodating. We hadn't booked but were squeezed in. Highly recommend and so lovely to experience such friendly staff.

Can not fault the food in any way, totally delicious. The service was very good when we arrived, sadly by the time we came to order desert and second drinks we were left waiting a long time. We managed to call a member of the wating staff over who cleared our plates and said they would return but 15 mins later still had not. In total we waited about 40 mins before we managed to get are second drink and desert, no apology and nothing offered off our bill, even though the couple at the table next to ours in a similar situation were given their drinks for free and got an apology.

Fantastic welcome and brilliant service in a lovely atmospheric space with a wood burner and good seating. They allowed dogs, which was brilliant. The prices are reasonable but unfortunately the food was below par and I'd rather pay more for a decent meal. My family who had the fish were satisfied but my beef roast dinner wasn't good. I don't know why they'd put a circle of waxy stuffing with the beef but it added nothing, although the dog liked it. The beef was ok, chewy and not very flavoursome but the Yorkshire pud wasn't crispy and had no gravy in it. The veg were cold and though both cabbages were crunchy and nicely seasoned, the spuds were reheated, stodgy and not at all crispy outside. The pomegranate pannacotta was a sweet but tasteless blob of wallpaper paste with no wobble at all. Great beer.

We went for a meal last night. They had had an xmas party and we came after. They served up soggy black (burnt) roast potatoes which were disappointing, most of the food was lukewarm, vegetables like carrots were undercooked, overall pretty poor. We asked for some water for the meal, we had had a pre-drink which was nice but it was a bad weather night and with driving, one drink is getting towards enough. Someone came up near the end of our meal to ask if everything was alright, and we still hadn't had the water. "The order has gone through" we were told- how complicated is it to bring 3 glasses and a jug of water ? Its also nice to have live music but towards the end it was more like karaoke where we were sitting. The singer was relying on recordings a lot, and we couldn;t hear ourselves. We left . We left a tip for service but TBH we are regretting doing that today.

This is second time I have cause for remarking the quality of yr beef the last couple times been at yours, We loved your Thursday pies, but no longer. You are using either cheaper meat or not trimming it sufficiently well thus quite sinewy, keeping price of the dish low. Gravy an pastry excellent.

We visited the Berwick this weekend, as it was so sunny we sat in the garden which also has a closed of play area for children and an under cover shaded area. Instead of ordering 2 mains we went for 4 starters to share, despite being really busy we didn’t have to wait too long for the food, we opted for Thai green mussels, sharing camembert, bruschetta and squid we wanted the scotch egg but was sold out. The food was amazing, so many different flavours, served hot, could not fault anything and will definitely be returning! The only criticism we would have is that some of the garden furniture is very tired and needs updating, my partner scraped his leg on a nail sticking out.

10 family members went for a birthday lunch. We ordered a variety of ciabatta sandwiches, squid, pork belly, burger, bruschetta, Caesar salad and chips. All arrived promptly and were really fresh, well cooked, beautifully presented and above all, tasty. We were lucky enough to be there on a sunny day, so we ate in the garden, which is lovely. Inside would be very nice too. All the staff are great Thanks so much,we really enjoyed it.

Dropped in here after a frustrating experience at one location 15 miles away at Beachy Head & discounted other possibilities on the way. Both specials & à la carte were a degree limited but we opted for the cheeseburger. At £14.50 more than a degree over-priced. Service was good, quick & friendly, otherwise the star rating would have been 2. Other diners too were commenting on the limited menu choice. Gastro pub it is no longer

Well this is far from the first time I've rendezvoused with friends at the Berwick Inn. We've NEVER been disappointed with food, staff or service but today, they TOTALLY excelled themselves! I'm in recovery from cancer so gluten, dairy and fat are difficult for me to digest! Imagine my surprise to get a personal call early in the morning to discuss what the chef could prepare for me😯..... Wow; just above and beyond. The staff new when I arrived, no embarrassing conversations, just switched on attention and extraordinary service for these days. I was presented with the most deliciously cooked seabass (my choice), beautifully accompanied by very lightly sauteed potatoes and green beans; the flavour and seasoning was beautiful! How refreshing to know that, locally, we have an outstanding privately owned great venue in every way!!

We have had many lovely evenings at the Berwick Inn but I’m sorry to say that we were very disappointed with Burns Night this year. The tables were beautifully set and the Scottish piper was excellent but the food was mediocre at best, not helped by the fact it was served almost cold. The Cullen Skink was lukewarm, flavourless and runny; a few diced potatoes in tepid milk basically. The salmon course was dry and served on lukewarm pearl barley risotto – it had obviously been prepared much earlier and had been waiting around to be served; it was inedible. My partner had the Sticky Toffee Pudding which was cold and stuck to the plate. My Cranachan Trifle was raspberry gel with aerosol cream squirted on it. It had no fresh raspberries or whiskey just a scattering of Scott’s porage oats on top. Most of the dishes were garnished with limp, very tired looking pea shoot which at least reflected our feelings on the evening. Very disappointed after many lovely meals at the Berwick Inn and felt it was hugely overpriced at £50 a head.

We booked a table on Mother’s Day at 6.15pm requesting a high chair. When we arrived we asked again for a high chair as we hadn’t received one. After holding our one year old for 10 minutes we asked once again for a high chair and finally received one 15 minutes after entering the pub. After ordering our drinks we received our menus but had to ask for a childrens menus despite having two children at the table. We finally ordered our starters an hour after arriving. An hour later, after ordering our mains we were approached by a waitress asking if we had decided if we were having desert before our mains had even been served! She then told us she would check where they were. She returned and said they wouldn’t be long. Twenty minutes later we received them after being at the pub for two hours. Many tables had come in after us and left already completing their three course meals! At 8.45pm we finally order desert and make a complaint to the waiter who says the deserts would be as quick as they could be. We ordered three chocolate brownies and what we received were unmistakably chocolate cakes rather than brownies. By this point we had complained to two members of staff and received a quite patronising and brushed off apology. We received the bill with no attempt of rectifying any of the issues we had encountered. We asked for some sort of discount and did finally get one but after waiting three hours and being completely forgotten more than once during our meal I expected much more. We felt as though we were a hindrance to staff and I was really disappointed in the service we received. I have heard absolutely brilliant things about this pub and feel it’s a real shame that this was our experience.

We had the most delicious meal - great variety of dishes. They catered to my allergies (gluten, dairy, onion and garlic free) - multiple options available for me. The staff were attentive and made the evening very enjoyable. Atmosphere also good. Highly recommend.

Visited The Berwick on Sunday 2nd July for my sons 1st birthday. The booking was for 47 people plus an additional number of people joined for drinks. Zoe (events co-ordination) arranged the afternoon for us and nothing was too much trouble. The service was amazing , very quick and the food was amazing we had a range of meals from the menu and everyone absolutely loved there’s! No complaints at all which is rare when a restaurant cooks for so many people. We were given a lovely little area in the garden with a marquee and I would recommend it to anyone who is thinking of making a group booking here. Thank you to Zoe and the team for making our sons birthday so special and a day to Remember

This Inn provides a very warm friendly atmosphere, good pub food at a sensible price. In the summer the garden provides many of the vegetables. The service is excellent. We have been here on numerous occasions but this week it was Ruby that took care of us. We always enjoy it and nothing is too much trouble for them.
