Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Fab service, warm reception with welcoming fire, delicious, hearty, homecooked food with ample portion sizes. Only downside was that they'd run out of 0% lager and I was driving!

We went for a meal last night. They had had an xmas party and we came after. They served up soggy black (burnt) roast potatoes which were disappointing, most of the food was lukewarm, vegetables like carrots were undercooked, overall pretty poor. We asked for...some water for the meal, we had had a pre-drink which was nice but it was a bad weather night and with driving, one drink is getting towards enough. Someone came up near the end of our meal to ask if everything was alright, and we still hadn't had the water. "The order has gone through" we were told- how complicated is it to bring 3 glasses and a jug of water ? Its also nice to have live music but towards the end it was more like karaoke where we were sitting. The singer was relying on recordings a lot, and we couldn;t hear ourselves. We left . We left a tip for service but TBH we are regretting doing that today.More

I called in here during Storm Ciaran for a coffee, I was told I could not use the car park or have a coffee as they only sold meals and the manager would 'go ballistic' if he saw I had parked there. It was just...before 12 noon, the car park was completely deserted as was the restaurant. I was directed to a car park opposite which turned out to be a staff car park when I got there. I have recently been very ill so left the Berwick Inn in tears as the woman who appeared to be in charge was so rude and there was no welcome at this Inn even in exceptional circumstances. I have been to this Inn in the past in better times and I am very upset at the manner in which I was treated. Appalling rudeness and behaviour.More

Dropped in here after a frustrating experience at one location 15 miles away at Beachy Head & discounted other possibilities on the way. Both specials & à la carte were a degree limited but we opted for the cheeseburger. At £14.50 more than a degree...over-priced. Service was good, quick & friendly, otherwise the star rating would have been 2. Other diners too were commenting on the limited menu choice. Gastro pub it is no longerMore

We had the most delicious meal - great variety of dishes. They catered to my allergies (gluten, dairy, onion and garlic free) - multiple options available for me. The staff were attentive and made the evening very enjoyable. Atmosphere also good. Highly recommend.

Well this is far from the first time I've rendezvoused with friends at the Berwick Inn. We've NEVER been disappointed with food, staff or service but today, they TOTALLY excelled themselves! I'm in recovery from cancer so gluten, dairy and fat are difficult for me...to digest! Imagine my surprise to get a personal call early in the morning to discuss what the chef could prepare for me😯..... Wow; just above and beyond. The staff new when I arrived, no embarrassing conversations, just switched on attention and extraordinary service for these days. I was presented with the most deliciously cooked seabass (my choice), beautifully accompanied by very lightly sauteed potatoes and green beans; the flavour and seasoning was beautiful! How refreshing to know that, locally, we have an outstanding privately owned great venue in every way!!More

The night in the tent was okay. It was a night in a tent no luxuries the battery operated chandelier. All the batteries were dead. Me and my wife and our friends. Biggest complaint was the toilet and the shower in the pub was disgusting...mouldy ceiling hole in the ceiling no water pressure in the toilet or the shower. It was just pretty disgusting. My wife and my friends wife wouldn’t even go in to the room. It was foul needs modernising completely redoing. The host that matters was lovely and very accommodating, but the accommodation was poor. Definitely don’t expect glamping it’s a tent in the garden with no facilitiesMore

Highly recommend this lovely country pub. Warm friendly helpful service. Lots of outdoor seating and cosy inside for colder months. The food was excellent. We travel and eat out a lot so our expectations are high. We ordered fish from the specials menu and so...pleased we did. Presentation was excellent, quality ingredients and Beautifully cooked. We'll definitely be back!More
