My family and I came here for lunch on Tuesday and thoroughly enjoyed it! We were greeted at the back door by the manager, a lovely lady with glasses who quickly found us a table. All the tables were well spaced out making us feel very comfortable in the current circumstances. There wasn’t a long wait for food, even though it was very busy and to top it off we got 50% off our mains!! It was explained when we sat down if we download their company app we would get 50% off each main course! The food was yummy, the staff were very polite and the manager was very attentive and made us feel welcome. We will definitely be back!

We stayed her for 5 nights and from initial contact throughout our stay we were met with very friendly and helpful staff. The hotel rooms were really lovely, modern and clean and we were encouraged to ask if we needed anything throughout our stay. There is a lovely atmosphere in the restaurant and bar area with a nice beer garden to enjoy some outdoor space. The food was delicious and well priced with 50% discount on main meals mid-week. Covid requirements did make things a little more challenging for staff and guests but no major obstacles and overall the hotel coped very well. The hotel is well priced and located right opposite a bus stop so getting into Scarborough is very straightforward. We will definitely return.

Me and my family dined at the mayfield on Tuesday lunch time this week and we’re pleasantly surprised to find they had carried on the half price offer through September. The staff were all very friendly and helpful especially the manager a young lady with blonde hair and glasses who helped us download the loyalty app. The food was great both me and my wife had a baguette which was fantastic. We will definitely be making it a more regular visit!

Well, I often read other people's derogatory reviews but say "I don't know what they're moaning about, must be having a bad day". We have eaten here lots of times before and the last time just before Christmas, it was lovely. This time we ordered drinks at the bar and it took four attempts and returns of dirty wine glasses. Oh dear how the mighty fall, tonight we arrived at 6.30 there was about 6 other diners, so all quiet. We ordered nachos to start with, this was emphasised as a starter (usually yummy), we waited and waited the main course arrived with the nachos, why??? The young man waiting on was lovely, we returned the nachos to the kitchen, the chips accompanying the steak pie were, to say the least "black/well done", the "manager" said they weren't over cooked it was the potatoes so why were the chips on the ham fine, the manager was a little abrupt, they took the pie away and returned with a better cooked chip, the gravy was glatenous and tepid as were the peas. Two deserts were ordered one of which was still frozen but satisfactory. Time to pay, the bill was £69 which included the nachos the lovely young man behind the bar went to find the manager to deduct them he came back and proudly presented a bill which was more than before mmmmmm not right, there was an extra bottle of wine, he had to go and find the manager again to deduct the wine, eventually after waiting some time hurray it was right. The manager never appeared I would have assumed that her first priority would be to liaise and apologise to the customers (I think not). I would have thought that the priority at a quiet time of year was to get it right for the "local" trade. It may be some time before we return which I am very dissapointed about, we also regularly visit other venues of the hq collection which I hope will not be on the same slippery slope.

Having waited approximately 40 minutes despite the venue being very quiet, our food finally arrived only to be dried up, luke warm and extremely poor quality. The scampi was over cooked and like small rocks and the chips so overdone they were inedible. My husbands ‘10oz’ gammon steak consisted of about 5oz of fat! The replacement didn’t materialise so we left having received a partial refund. Never to return.

Our family had our Christmas meal there. The service was unbelievably slow and some of us are having starter while the others have finished their main! We understand it’s Christmas time but the staff are in a right mood to deal with us. When they brought us the wrong starter, they said we did order it and try to blame on us. Not apologetic at all with the fact we’ve been waiting for an hour. The worst is when I asked for the chicken wings to be cooked a bit more ( as we have small children and pregnant woman who don’t want to risk the pink juice we saw), they said okay and made their point by totally burning the wings black and send it back to us!!! Since it was Christmas we didn’t want to make a fuss on the day to spoil everyone’s mood! Anyway, hope you improve the service in the coming year and it will be a never again place for us.

Well we’re do I start. We arrived bank holiday Monday 31/08/20. On arrival everything was great. Checked my Elderly father in and when we got to the room which was small but ok we noticed the shower was in the bath. We stupidly expected a walk in shower being a modern hotel. I went and spoke with a manager asking if it was possible to change the room. She just looked at me and said no. Didn’t even check. So I asked if maybe they had something my father could use to stand on, to help him into the bath to have a shower. She looked at me and said we have a bar stool. I was shocked at her reply her people skills are appalling. We were booked in for food 7.30pm Monday night is curry night. By the time the mains came my son and myself went up to get our curry’s it was 8.45pm so the curry was dry and disgusting, the chef forgot to put the fish in the batter as my father had batter and chips. I paid for the meal and when I explained to the manager about our food her reply was sorry it is late on the evening. The next few days were better we are elsewhere. On our last Night Friday my youngest son wanted plain pasta he’s a fussy eater. I asked and was told no the pasta was made up in the morning and mixed with the tomato sauce that they reheat for quickness. I did ask the same manager of it was possible that a small bowl of pasta could be quickly made up her reply no it takes too long. My god she should be demoted as her attitude and people skills are disgusting. Last orders was called 10pm every night as in the words of the same manger we need to go home as we are tired. The bar staff spot on this manager appalling

I waited 40 minutes to pick up the Sunday carvery. Now they put everything on everyone's plate . I asked for meat, I got 1 piece, I wanted baked potatoes, I got 3 potatoes, 1 piece of broccoli and 4 slices of carrot .. I am very surprised that such a price cannot even be eaten properly. I do not recommend .

Never really had a good meal here, only reason we return is for the kids play area. First time having the carvery though and it was poor. Overpriced, cold roast potatoes, rock hard boiled potatoes (couldn’t even cut through one!) and a real lack of variety when it came to the veg. The turkey was nice as was the beef. Yorkshire puddings are as big as the plate so I didn’t bother. It took 25 minutes for our sons starter to arrive, bread sticks, carrots and cucumber!!! This is mass produced food doesn’t do anything for me.

Called in here for a drink on a Fri it was not very busy and looked ok. Came for Sunday lunch, you get what you pay for, it was reasonably priced but the meat was lazer cut. Returned for a meal later in the week, it was very quiet and only a couple of tables were occupied about 20 mins later we order a 2nd drink and tried to order food, be aware they don't serve food until 5pm, this was about 4.20pm. At about 4.45 a coupe arrived who gave us such a stare but thought nothing of it as we are not locals and they obviously were. Just after that we were asked to vacate the table we had occupied for nearly 1 hour as it was booked. On previous visits we noted they have reserved signs and also put out cutlery on the table, There was none on the table we had occupied. We did move as the stares were unnerving. We decided not to eat and on leaving complained about the treatment. The manager was not interested and state that someone had removed the signs/cutlery that had been put on the table at approx 3.30pm, that being not long before we had arrived. We felt we were being accused of this. There were plenty of empty tables but this is obviously a pub where visitors are just tolerated for the money paid over to the pub.

I think we arrived on the first day after lockdown, we booked twin rooms as a family, however one was in the main building the other in one of the outbuildings and both were made up as doubles, it is worth contacting the hotel if you want a twin as 3rd party bookings don't carry the detail. Both rooms were decorated nicely and were comfortable, the one in the main hotel was a little cramped. The one in the outbuilding had a hallway leading to a bathroom and the bedroom, it was however missing somewhere to sit, there was a single stool and nothing else. Breakfast was not the buffet due to covid, but the staff were helpful and the chef even went to the supermarket to get fruit. Staff on the breakfast are very (too) busy, and are still trying to work within the Covid protocols, tea, coffee and chocolate on offer but no milk! To avoid sharing sauce bottles everything is small packets but the staff aren't used to this yet. Evening food is standard pub fayre but was very slow- again limited staff trying to learn how to work with the Covid protocols. One Way system for coming in and out, spaced out tables, app ordering (although we charged to the room!), Rooms not serviced whilst occupied- Covid Measures A pleasant and comfortable stay, staff were always helpful and engaging, just struggling like everyone to learn how things work with Covid protocols, would love to come back in more normal times or when everything has bedded in, rooms were very nice and clean the only improvement being a chair or 2 to avoid having to sit on the bed.

Three of us spent 3.nights here 7-10 September. The bedrooms are modern and well equipped with smart TVs and a good shower. The breakfasts were good quality food , however the staff were different each day and the younger members definitely need some training. They need to be proactive rather reactive. Teaspoons were always running out as well as milk. Overall a pleasant stay. Beware though there are no other hostelriesin the village when we stayed Monday to Thursday

On the day we visited, we ordered drinks at the bar and were served by a member of staff who was rather grumpy to say the least. We asked if the veggie burger on the menu was also suitable for vegans and she went to find the chef, not looking too happy about it. When she returned, we were told it was, so we ordered it, along with a meal for a meat eater. When the food arrived, there were no chips with the burger (despite it being part of the meal) and were told that the chips were not vegan. When I asked why, I was told they cook their chips in beef dripping. So this means anyone ordering the veggie burger without querying it, would get chips fried in beef dripping. Barmy! It was expensive too. Had we been told we would not get chips when making the order, we would have left. We will not be going again.

Greeted by two young men in the bar, who told us to eat round the corner in the restaurant, then they got back to joshing each other, not exactly a good welcome. Looked at the dried meat on the carvery and sad looking vegetables and we both quickly decided to go for the delicious looking burger (on website!). Found a table, asked for it to be wiped as dirty from previous customers. Ordered 2 burgers and onion rings. The 3 girls in this area spent the whole time just chatting and giggling, some other young people came in and stood at the counter chatting to the staff the whole time we were there. I asked for my cutlery to be changed as it appeared that the knife and fork wrapped in a napkin had been stuck together with baked on chewing gum, I pointed this out to the waitress that it may need some soaking off, she just took from me and put in a container with other dirty cutlery. Food arrived, nothing like photograph, the special recipe burger from a local butcher was not to our taste, the meat is very finely ground and so burger dense in texture, a weird red colour, and tasted liked the cheapest burger that we had the misfortune to taste, a tiny amount of tasty coleslaw was the highlight of the meal. No one checked if OK and really felt that we had disturbed the enjoyment of the staff. Was staying in one of the cottages and Copper House was closed, wished we had got in the car and driven to McDonalds!

We were lucky enough to have won four tickets priced at £35 each for a musical tribute evening with a seasonal 3 course meal included. The starter was prawns and salmon. When this arrived we were embarrassed as our guests couldn't believe the diminutive portion which looked like it had been scaled to suit a Barbie Doll, 3 tiny prawns and a piece of smoked salmon the size of half a post-it note. A tiny lettuce leaf and Marie rose sauce hiding the prawns. The main course arrived and further disappointed our group with 'plastic' turkey, one roast potato, two miniature parsnips, 3 miniature chantonnay Carrots and two sprouts. Like a supermarket meal but worse. The third course was the only redeeming feature, sticky toffee pudding. One out of three...33%. Not a passmark! We had twice contacted the Mayfield management to determine the expected arrival time as no tickets had been sent to us. The Manager said he'd make a note and made it clear no tickets were required. When we arrived we were made to feel awkward and certainly not like prize winners being squeezed onto a table at the very back of the room. We were told we had best arrive between 5 and 6pm we were not able to sit down until 7pm. I guess this was a ploy to sell drinks. A long wait. Not once did any member of staff ask if the meal was OK. The Lionel Richie tribute was performed well fortunately. To the Mayfield management, if this evening's meal and style of management was an ambassador to tempting us to return with our business you have failed miserably. Come on guys, you must be able to do better than this. It's a good concept but tragic execution. 😔
