Have been going to this restaurant since they opened. In lockdown it has been a life saver. Staff are brilliant and the food never disappoints. Lovely garden area for when we can eat there again.

We have been waiting patiently for coronavirus restrictions to be lifted so that we could actually go here for a meal, but the wait goes on! However, the next best thing from here is the takeaway menu. So we ordered our first takeaway of 2021...and chose quite a varied selection of dishes, too many to list really! All I can say is they were all so, so tasty, and we had a really enjoyable meal to cheer us up during this current lockdown. If restrictions are going to continue for a while yet, we will definitely be having another one of these takeaways, or maybe even two, until we get the chance to go to the restaurant for an actual night out! A big, big thank you to the staff for being so helpful and please keep up the good work!More

I ordered a take away for a birthday celebration. There is a great choice of take away dishes at very reasonable prices. We experienced an excellent, prompt delivery service and lovely, fresh tasty flavours. Highly recommend.

For a start, we visited pre-covid times and were stuck in Uppermill because the canal had problems. We needed a place to eat and found the Rioja and thought this would be a nice place to dine. Being foreigners, we were somewhat purplexed that a...Spanish restaurant was headed up by an Indian manager. It didn't take long to figure out that the gentleman concerned was thoroughly passionate about his establishment and provided a very good service and delicious food. I can't recommend this place enough. We had a thoroughly delightful dining experience.More

We’ve always wanted to try Rioja and it’s typical of us to wait till lockdown to do it, but it was worth the wait and we weren’t disappointed. The food was absolutely outstanding and more than reasonably priced. Such value for money and everyone’s belly...was full to bursting once we’d sampled a brilliant selection of what the guys had to offer. We ordered to celebrate my 51st Birthday and it made it special in these strange times we live in. Personal favourites were the Paella dishes (we tried both) , Rabbit and Chorizo and the Meatballs. When restrictions are lifted for the hospitality industry we’ll be visiting and supporting this niche establishment at the heart of Uppermill. Thank you!More

We wanted a takeaway that felt like a celebration for a big birthday. Before even placing the order the service was brilliant. We ordered far too much but little was left.. the highlights were rabbit and chorizo, chicken in white wine and for me the...paneer samosas these were absolutely fantastic. The delivery was on time in an insulated box so everything stayed nice and warm too!!More

Let me just say first of all that we would have loved to come here to the restaurant for a family celebration of our anniversary, but, due to lockdown restrictions, this wasn't possible. However the takeaway that we were able to get from here more...than made up for it. We collected our food in an insulated box which kept it lovely and warm, and then we spread it out on the table at home. So many dishes, so many favours, and so much enjoyment! Some of the dishes that we really liked were the creamy mushrooms, the chicken in white wine, the meatballs, and the cheese & onion croquettes. To be fair, I could say the same about all the dishes as they were so good! There was even a card from the Rioja staff included, so can I just say to Pam and the rest of the team a big thankyou from the Clark family! You made our celebration that bit more special in these difficult times and we will come and enjoy a meal at the restaurant when things are back to normal.More

We travelled from Bolton, to sample the wonderful food and tasteful decor of Rioja. I'm not especially picky with food, but some of our party are. We all cleared our plates, and would happily give them our custom again.

We were lucky enough that it was a beautiful day weatherwise. Their Covid measures were good. We were given a great table on a sort of balcony over looking the water. That was amazing. They do a good selection of cocktails. The Lady had a...couple whilst I had a couple of beers. We ordered five tapas dishes to split between us. Also a garlic bread. The service is amazing. Dilip is funny and there was a female waitress but I didn't catch her name. Really skinny. She was probably the most naturally polite waitress I've ever come across. Lovely. As weird as it may sound, I'd definitely go here again even though the food was a bit bland. To my taste anyway. I understand that a lot of people may like this. But it was just a title too flavourless. I'd be interested to know whether they would add more taste on request?More

Went recently, was very impressed. Went with a friend who ran a local restaurant. As service was so good I took my fella, unfortunately not as good as last time. Food was great, as expected. Shame we needed to be seen 3 times before our...order was taken, then wait forever for our food. Thankfully it was worth the wait, and the champagne we ordered took the edge of it, or I might have walked. Thought it was hilarious that the manager recognised my dog but not me! Not sure what that says about the restaurant or me!More
