Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We followed the tripadvisor ranking and went to Tenkin. We were guided to the first floor, nice seating on Japanese tables and got a menu in English Food was delicious ! We tried the more expensive sushi which was divine and the wagyu beef , that came on a hot plate where it was barbecued Service was so gentle and nice ! All in all a great experience and on top not even expensive . Just right to try in Asahikawa

If youre in Asahikawa chances are you are somewhat familiar with a few Japanese words. You'll need them here at Tenkin. I got the impression they dont openly want or welcome westerners, and upon arrival we were told they were full. I said in Japanese that we would wait and 'boom' instantly there was a spare table!! The food is yummy Izakaya with plenty of seafood, and they do have English menus! We ate ourselves silly with a beer each for 2500 Yen (around $30 AUD)...you couldn't do that back home! Oh and also remember you're in Japan, clearly you came here to see a different culture...but....you may have to put up with someone smoking near to you and you'll also see whale on the menu. If that offends, try McDonalds take away!!

Great food. Walked in by myself, clearly solo. Got served a beer and sashimi bowl. After finishing, my waitress hands me a bill with 15 line items totaling ten times my order cost. There is no way she could have mistaken me for a party of ten! Cleared it up with the guy at the counter, but clear case of trying to take advantage of a foreigner. Too bad because this is the first incidence of this happening in Japan, one of the best countries in the world!

Recommended by the receptionist at our hotel, we went here without explicit expectations. Upon entering we were seated at the counter (kind of getting used to people smoking next to us in restaurants again, but in the end airflow was reasonably ok so did not bother us). We were given a more graphical menu as our Japanese reading skills were non existent and proceeded to order a number of different things: from the sushi over the shrimp rolls to the grilled mackerel, everything was fresh and tasted really great. The charcoal flavour of the mackerel stuck with us though, so much that we sought out the dish on various occasions on our trip through Hokkaido. Would definitely visit again!

I love izakayas. After visiting Japan for so many times, I just recently realise when you are running out of ideas on what to eat - just find a good izakaya. They have so many different kind of dishes that will for sure make everyone happy. This restaurant is recommended in a local travel book. You can feel the restaurant is not catered for foreign tourists. We were seated on the 2nd floor with other Japanese in a tatami room and didn't hear any English or Mandarin while we were there. The food!! Sushi, Sake, everything was so delicious. I customised one of the rice/congee dish without salt for my daughter, and the taste was just perfect! This was the best meal I had in this entire trip. Highly recommended if you are in the region.

Chanced upon this restaurant while looking for a place to eat around the hotel. It's a really good find. Located near the shopping street, this restaurant has a counter seating as well as tatami type seating upstairs. There is plenty of food to choose from. All at very reasonable price. Portions are large too. Taste is very nice and delicious. Service is fast and friendly. My only grouse is the floor at the tatami seating. It looks a little dated. Overall, I would go back again for another round of good food.

Excellent and fresh seafood. they even have english menu. All raw food are prepared in front of you. Only issue is they have no NON-smoking area. It is a very busy place and we are the only foreigner there during the dinner time. Great service, one of the server speaks little english and he served us well.

In Asahikawa, there is a restaurant with the name Tenkin. Currently, there is a ramen restaurant called "Ramenya Tenkin," a Japanese restaurant called "Tenkin Main Branch," an izakaya called "Izakaya Tenkin," and another izakaya called "Izakaya Tenkin East Branch." All of them are said to be from the same family. ■Fried squid tentacles■ The tentacles were not hard and were very easy to bite through. As I bit into them, the oil from the fried squid spread in my mouth and the flavor of the squid increased. ■Yari squid sashimi■ The flesh is a little thin, but it is muscular and crunchy, and has a richer flavor than pacific flying squid. By the way, the high-class squids, such as the bigfin reef squid and the swordtip squid, are squids that you can enjoy for their "rich sweetness." In comparison, the spear squid is squid that you can enjoy for its "elegant sweetness." Also, it is not heavy like the bigfin reef squid, has a moderate texture, and has a light sweetness that fades away quickly. ■Live whelk sashimi■ The customers sitting on both sides of me ordered "Live whelk sashimi". The more I chewed, the more delicious it was, and I was fascinated. The texture was similar to abalone and crunchy. It was sweeter than abalone. The unique aroma filled my mouth. ■Hakkaku salt-grilled■ I actually considered cooking it with boiled fish. I wanted to leave my mouth feeling refreshed. I also considered having sashimi, but since I had bigfin reef squid and whelk sashimi in succession, I had it grilled with salt.
