Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We popped in for a few pints after a walk in the lakes, was seated and had a cold beer in hand within 5 minutes. We then asked to get booked in for food for a few hours time in which we were greeted by the friendly staff who booked us in without an issue on a busy Saturday! Lovely selection of food and specials. Our food came out perfect temperature, tasty and on time! Would definitely come again.

Ok so, I don't really enjoy leaving poor/average reviews but I hope to encourage the pub to review its food menu and in particular the quality and portion size. The pub is in a perfect location for people coming down from the fells, in particular Helvellyn - as we did. You would expect this place to really focus on good homemade, hearty, healthy portions of food, when in fact the total opposite. I was really disappointed with our chosen dishes, I was absolutely ravenous so was hoping for a real plate full, I ordered a all day breakfast which was really crap, the beans looked like they had been fished out of a swamp, I've never seen beans this colour! The wife had burger and chips, again not really catered for someone who's just spent 6/7 hours on the fells and again pretty poor quality and flavours. To try and put this into perspective I paid something like £12 or £13 quid for the all day breakfast, which after it arrived seemed overpriced by about £8 ..... Honestly, its a decent place for a pint but the food side of things is really pretty embarrassing at the price point they're asking.

Absolutely delightful food piping hot and fresh served to order! Has the carrot and cauliflower soup which was perfection and a piping hot fish and chips which was a large portion certainly fair for the price. Staff were extremely welcoming and friendly. Service extremely smooth and the setting beautiful.

Went to a traditional pub with the promise of traditional pub food for the family. Four meals coming to £70+ only to be served meals that were clearly cooked from frozen and purchased in a supermarket.
Could’ve made the exact same meal for less than £15. Absolutely disgraceful.

Visited as a stop en-route to the lakes. Arrived and chose a table and was surprised to have to queue into the bar for drinks and food. I understand that during covid restrictions queuing is to be avoided and table service only was allowed. There were no menus available outside so after waiting for 30 minutes to get inside to order I had to phone my family, sitting outside to check what they wanted from the menu. Paid for our drinks and returned outside. By the time the food arrived our drinks were all but finished and I wasn’t about to rejoin the line for more. Only 1 waitress and 1 Barman on front of house on a busy sunny day. I understand it’s tough for hospitality but we paid over £50 for a four average Sandwiches and four soft drinks, Not enjoyable & sadly wouldn’t return despite the lovely views.

This is without doubt a quirky pub - its quite dark and the gents toilet is situated in the bar; so when you turn left from the front door, if the loo door is open the first thing you see is the loo. (The ladies are a little more discreetly hidden off the Lounge bar). Not madly appealing.
We chose a table by the bar then noticed it was covered in salt and grease so moved - it wasn't much better, so we moved again. The barman didn't volunteer to clean up. In fact he didn't engage with us at all other than to ask, quite curtly, if we were ordering food. The menu stated cheese and ham sandwiches, which was apparently incorrect. We could have one or the other but most definitely NOT both. We settled on cheese and a plate of chilli nachos, two halves and the bill was £25.
Its a shame it was the only place open in Glenridding (at the time of writing) because we most certainly won't be back.
I know I'm being judgmental but some people really should rethink their career choices - customer service is not everyone's forte as witnessed by us today.

Visiting for a wedding we popped in for a bite to eat. Wish we hadn't bothered. The chicken burger had no taste whatsoever, served with a bit of wilted lettuce and a slice of warm tomato, chips that were frozen and burnt onion rings. The only thing that might have given it any flavour would have been the coleslaw but they had ran out! The scampi was equally as bad! Thrown on the plate with peas that hadn't been drained which meant the whole plate of food was sitting in a pool of water. Staff not very friendly at all, quite rude. Had to go to the Inn on the Lake and get some proper food as we were all famished!

I had planned to call in here for a pint and food after our hike (I hadn't checked trip advisor before hand for reviews) but we decided to give the place a swerve. On my way past up the mountain I went to put my banana skin in the bin outside and was greeted by who I can only assume to be the owner have a snap at me about asking in future to use his bin. I actually thought he was joking as I've honestly never heard anything quite so ludicrous in my life and continued to put my banana skin in the bin. He wasn't joking. He went in again! I was to shocked to properly respond! Extremely rude man. It's not what I call welcoming. We went to the Brackenrigg in on the drive home and the food, drink and welcome was lovely and judging by the other reviews about food I'm glad I did!!

Came for a family evening meal out in August. Main course was good quality and priced as you would expect for Cumbria. Waiters were exceptionally miserable and seemed to be going through the motions. If you are looking for a nice dining experience with the benefit of pleasant attentive waiters would recommend going elsewhere

After a long day exploring around the area, me and a few friends decided to visit this place for food and drinks. I firstly visited the rest room however things went completely downhill from there. We entered the bar/eating area which was completely ridiculed with fruit flies but it seemed the staff didn't really care about it, we then all placed an order at the bar from the menu, which we all thought sounded pretty good, however as I went to place my order the bar tender refused my other as it would take too long to make, I was slightly confused but I decided to compromise and ordered the chicken burger instead. I've eaten many chicken burgers from many places however this was genuinely the worst I've had. It contained no seasoning at all, it had very cold tomato slices and no sauce to add any flavour. Along with my food I ordered a Guinness, which tasted off and unlike any Guinness I've had before. While attempting to eat this terrible food we were constantly bugged by the flies coming towards us. It was truly a awful experience. I would advise anyone looking to visit this place to completely avoid it, you'd be better off grabbing a sandwich and drink from a petrol station!

If Glenridding is big enough to have a centre then the Traveller's Rest is sited slightly away from it but well worth the extra few yards to get there. We found the food to be excellent and the Cumberland sausage was exceptional. The staff were friendly and attentive (and more than replaced the single scampi which escaped one of our plates while serving). The views from the well laid out outside area where we sat must be the best in the village. So why not five stars? Well, given the quality of everything else on our visit we rather wished someone had just taken the time to peel and cut some potatoes and turn them into chips rather than taken the frozen route. That may seem to be a little picky but it really would have made everything perfect. We will be back the Traveller's Rest though.

With it’s atmospheric location and beautiful views, The Travellers Rest has such potential. Unfortunately, under its current leadership, the place is going downhill. It didn’t take long to see how staff were overworked and under a great deal of stress. While the food was as expected, the way in they make their customers feel left a bad taste in my mouth. Their rudeness and inhospitality was the lingering memory we took away from our evening.

Situated at the end of one of the main routes from the Eastern Fells, this pub doesn't have to do much to pull in the punters. And sometimes this shows!
We went several times during our stay locally and sometimes the service was pleasent and welcoming, sometime not so; sometimes the food was large and delightful, sometimes not so.
I can understand why this place gets mixed reviews, it really does vary from one visit to another.
If you get a good day you'll have excellent beer and plenty to eat.

We went here on Saturday night and it was packed. It was one of the only places still serving food locally.
The staff were working like whirlwinds but were so friendly, and the food was tasty and hearty when it arrived. We'd go again. 😊

Stopped in for a pint and some food after a day walking in the area. Nice setting, great views and decent drink selection, however food was poor and overpriced. Ordered the fish & chips at £12 - chips were clearly frozen chips, peas were tinned and cold, fish was obviously a Birdseye or similar frozen fish fillet. Extremely disappointed at the price - not against pubs doing food like that especially if the place isn’t food centred but not at those prices. Put a downer on an otherwise great day. Would go back for a drink but would not buy food again.
