Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Been meaning to try here for a while and it didn't disappoint. Staff were friendly and chatty. Christmas menu had lots of choice, all the food we had was amazing, goats cheese starter was fab!! Peppercorn sauce to die for with the steak really tasty!...We will definitely be back (soon hopefully)!More

We were on holiday and looking for places to eat with our dog close by to where we were staying. We popped into this pub and asked for a table and were seated in a really lovely cosy room. The girl serving us was delightful...and super friendly and helpful, despite being on her own and rushed off her feet. My daughter and husband ordered the burger and said it was really great and I got the veggie curry and it was nice but not the biggest and was quite hungry. We then shared a cheeseboard and my daughter got ice cream. The cheese board came and was a decent portion and that filled me up. Really lovely meal and enjoyed it very much.More

I phoned on a Saturday evening on the off-chance that they had a table available.... they did, but the kitchen closed in 20 minutes from my call (at 8pm). On arrival, the staff were most welcoming and accommodating. We both had fish and chips, which...was excellent, followed by a Basque burnt cheesecake with rhubarb compote. Well presented hearty food served by friendly staff.More

We booked a table for two, with our dog. We ordered the filet steak and the salmon, which were delicious, followed by deserts which were also good.

The beer 'Foxy Blonde' / now called 'Blonde' was a completely different colour to how I remember it. Is it 'Amber', is it 'Dark Horse' - it is NOT Blonde, but is described as Blonde. The brewery owner owes the pub - does he not...know?More

I was treated to lunch by my family for a special family reunion Sunday lunch. They all enjoyed an amazing roast dinner while I had salmon. There were also some very tempting salad choices and the deserts were amazing too! The chef and staff were...first class and there were complimentary drinks for Mother’s Day. The pub/ restaurant is very traditional and attractive and we were delighted to discover the large garden at the rear where we took our drinks to enjoy in the sun. Highly recommend, first class pub food and we will return.More

We have eaten at the Ancrum Cross Keys in the evenings before. We are big fans so when they announced that they were starting full Sunday roast we jumped at the chance and were completely blown away by the quality, scale and variety within this...hearty traditional feast. Superb beef, well rested and a mass of different veg along with a large perfect Yorkshire pudding and gravy. Great local beer or wine. Really good food from a skilled, committed and generous chef. I can’t wait to have it again. Their usual menu (also great) was available as well. Worth a trip with plenty of parking directly outside on the charming village green. This is a real Borders pub. Priceless.More

Absolute gem of a find! The service was faultless with the perfect balance of attentiveness and leaving you in peace to enjoy it all. I think the gent who looked after us was called Brian, and he's an asset! Our 2 dogs were made very...welcome too. The food was superb! We had the goats cheese and black pudding tart and the butternut squash and toasted almond soup to start. The tart was perfect, really nice and the soup was absolutely beautiful! We both had steaks for main which were cooked perfectly, accompanied by onion rings which were to die for! Dessert was a baileys crème brûlée and a chocolate brownie, which again were delicious. The price was fairly unbelievable at around £80 for everything including a few drinks. The pub itself is lovely, with a nice clean and modern feel. Toilets were spotless and the music was great! If we're ever lucky enough to be passing through again we'll definitely rush back!More

We were put onto the Cross Keys by Born in Scotland site up the road. I have to say I expected better. We were seated in a soulless room, which appeared to be a former store room. No one else in the room. We were...shown a menu which was to be honest quite basic. We were on the verge of leaving when the young lass who delivered our drinks answered our query that we were looking for Sunday lunch. She then said oh yes, we have roast beef. Would have been nice to have been given the info earlier. We had our lunch. Thee was plenty of it, but I found it all a bit overcooked, and not very warm. The cutlery has seen better days, one tiny sachet of salt and pepper each, horseradish offered after I'd started eating. No, it just didn't measure upMore

The menu was totally different to the one on the website , we booked a table because of the menu , so we struggled to find food for the children to eat . The Gnocchi was very tasty , loved it .
