About
The Whitehouse Restaurant in Lochaline, Morvern makes the most of the West Coast larder on our doorstep. Lochaline langoustines and Sound of Mull dived scallops and crab are regulars, as are Seared Morvern stag's liver, heart and kidney with Tobermory whisky, lamb, mutton, beef and pork from local farmers. Our garden grows most of the herbs, salads and vegetables on the menu. Highland delicacies are foraged from hill and shore. We love celebrating Scottish food and drink - our fabulous local harvest served in a relaxed, informal atmosphere. The Lochaber environment is among the richest in Scotland. Our food puts it on your plate.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Went for lunch having read the previous reviews and what sounded like a great dining experience on their website. We booked thinking it would be busy but there were few people for lunch (maybe 3 couples as well as us that afternoon). As we entered...we were greeted by a medium sized barking dog which then followed us to our table attention seeking. Our server sat us very near to the only couple initially in the restaurant. Both people were busy scrolling on their mobile phones which gave the feeling of being in a cheap fast food restaurant. We soon discovered why when our server gave us a card with a QR code to access the menu. Then we sat looking at our phones like zombies rather than having the usual pre meal chat about what we might eat. The menu only had 2 starters, 2 mains and 2 desserts! I'm sure that it would have been more friendly and polite if the server had simply told us what was available or had it written on something like a board if they feel so strongly about not using paper on environmental grounds. (There was probably more damage to the environment using our phones !). The food was quite tasteless although well presented and definitely not worth about £50 per head for 3 smallish courses with drinks. The ambience was not great and the furniture had seen better days since being bought from IKEA years ago. This restaurant had a great reputation with its previous owners which I suspect the new owners are relying on. Definitely wouldn't go again, there's better choices not too far away.More

Lunch at the Whitehouse was a ray of brilliant sunshine on a grey day. I had the best cod I have ever eaten in my 68 years. Pudding was a delight of apple crumble soufflé. Lovely warm welcome. Go there for lunch

We chose this restaurant for a family celebration, which the chef catered for with a bespoke menu. To say all 13 of us (aged between 3 and 83!) had a wonderful time is an understatement. The food was delicious and of such a high standard,...and we were looked after so well by Agi. This restaurant deserves a Michelin visit. As family members we have dined far and wide, from New York to Beijing, and this was a very fine example of dining as it should be -- locally sourced ingredients allowed to sing on a plate by careful handling and fine skills. Don't miss the chance to visit if you are in the area -- it's even worth coming from further afield for as I am sure it won't stay under the radar for long. The memories will linger for a long time. Thanks again.More

My husband reserved us a table for my birthday. It was simply wonderful. The staff were perfectly attentive, calm, and clearly very passionate about the service they were giving. Both servers were very professional and personable. Seeing the chef work in the kitchen from our...table was wonderful. The atmosphere was cosy and welcoming. And the food was the best food we have had in Scotland. They have a lovely range of different wines to offer to pair with your meal. My husband is a vegetarian, and they were able to accommodate him very easily, even giving us a few options out with the menu, should he not want what was on the menu. The food was seasonal, local, and absolutely delicious. Thank you again for the wonderful visit.More

Casual fine dining at its best! When we rang to book were asked about dietary requirements of the party. The welcome was good, ambience and decor pleasing, food delicious! Between us we had 3 of the 4 options available for starter and mains (Including imaginative...vegetarian choices) and 2 of the puddings. All well cooked and presented. Plus an interesting wine list to complement the food. We shall return when next in the area,.More

Incredibly rude and unwelcoming staff. The place looks cozy, unfortunately that is the only nice thing about it. The reality is that is only very pretentious with a very limited menu option and unjustifiably high prices for what you get. After a few minutes in...the company of the unpleasant staff, we decided to leave.More

Had a great meal here. The food was amazing, we tried almost everything between us and it was all delicious. Although, the banoffee soufflé was the star of the show. Highly recommend.

Fantastic food always using locally sourced ingredients. We had to change the booking at the last minute and the guys were really helpful. All five of us had the monkfish main! Superb!

We have been here before, many years ago. The food was delicious but the atmosphere was a little lack lustre unfortunately and we experienced some noisy neighbour behaviour (we and the whole restaurant could hear the conversation the couple opposite us we having). Shame.

Had high expectations but found the food to be lacklustre. The ethos of locally sourced and foraged food was lost in the bland lacklustre nouvelle cuisine throwback from the 80’s. A real shame.

In summary, an absolutely sensational experience, great service, fantastic wine, a small but perfectly formed menu and needless to say, the quality of the food was up there with some of the best we’ve ever had the pleasure of eating. Booking ahead is very much...recommended but totally worth it. If you’re staying locally, I would absolutely suggest you give this little gem a try. Thank you for a wonderful experience!More

Totally did not expect a gastronomical experience during our visit to the Morvern peninsula….we were very pleasantly surprised. This small, local produce focussed restaurant punches well above its weight. The ambience was highly convivial and we were warmly welcomed by one of the owners. Our...amuse bouche was an artichoke purée, walnut pesto and pork infusion and set the tone of what was to come. I started with the crab crumpet - simply divine (see photo). Main course was a squid ink risotto and sea trout….cooked to perfection. Easily the best piece of sea trout I’ve ever had and the best cooked piece of fish I’ve had in a long time. The cheesecake was the only thing I wasn’t crazy about, however I managed to eat half of my daughter’s lemon tart which was utterly brilliant! Visit this place. The locals will tell you it’s expensive. It isn’t. We had three courses (plus amuse), aperitifs and a bottle of petit Chablis for £276…..for me that was excellent value when you consider the quality. Brilliant 👌More
