Our 16th century Public House is situated on Lime Street in the parish of Eldersfield near Gloucester. The Butchers Arms is first and foremost a rural pub, where the bar is the hub of life, with low ceilings, wooden floors, roaring fires and real ale served straight from the cask. We ate here when we were staying on a trip nearby. We were greeted by the friendliest staff who were all happy to chat to you and you never felt like they were rushing. We were slightly worried about eating outside as the weather didn't look promising but it's covered under a marquee in the garden with enough openings to ensure it was covid-safe. There were heaters and all chairs had lots of cushions and blankets to keep you warm and comfy. The food was really excellent, in particular the steak tartare as a starter and the monkfish curry as a main were really special dishes. There are some really delicious local beers available and a huge list of wine to choose from. We finished with a cheese board which was again delicious. Considering the high-quality food being served we thought the price was extremely reasonable. Definitely worth paying this place a visit if you're in the area.

My family and I visited this pub to celebrate a birthday. Jo was really helpful with providing suitable food for a 2 year old and certainly delivered on the food front, including a gluten intolerant member of our group. Superb service and quality of food. Would highly recommend.

I cannot recommended this establishment enough. A warm welcome awaits you as you arrive with friendly, efficient and unassuming service throughout the meal with no feeling of being rushed because of covid restrictions. Scotch eggs superlative, venison to die for, sea bream succulent. With regard to puddings it is difficult to choose which one to enjoy. All food is presented beautifully with portions which do not overwhelm you or so small that you end up leaving hungry which has happened to us recently in a Worcestershire supposedly high class restaurant. The Butchers Arms deserves a Michelin star which the previous owners received. Visit and enjoy.

What a joy it was to go out for the first time since lockdown began to somewhere that I felt completely safe after seeing the precise efforts the owners had made to ensure the safety of all, staff and customers. As ever the welcome was warm and the service excellent and we left feeling we had feasted well and in very relaxing surroundings. The meal was a delight; portions fitting, tastes interesting, and a varied and excellent choice. The wines were also very well matched. This is overall a very happy place to enjoy an evening out, especially if you like comfortable, old, and simple surroundings that sum up this area between Worcestershire and Hereford so well. It is a difficult balancing act to have efficient, discreet staff who do not over dominate the small rooms and food that is not overtly "cheffy". they have really got it right. Lovely

Guided by Michelin Man we made a short detour to come here for Sunday lunch after church. The complications of the first Church services and first days of restaurant opening after lockdown had led me to fiddle around with times but the team were terribly accommodating and we found ourselves greeted on the path to the front door and guided first to a lovely outdoor table for drinks, thence inside with great timing skills, into a beautiful separate dining room which pre pandemonium would probably have done ten but was sumptuous, airy and spacious for four, all of whom proceeded to eat mightily well. Fabulous flavoursome faggots, Moist cod and succulent tasty steak. Parkin and Gooseberry Fool, two of my favourite puddings, left me with a pleasant dilemma! Excellent service. Friendly and natural. Wonderful!

I have been here before but it was well before the Covid crisis and it is now under new ownership. It had a Michelin Star before so I was glad to see that it is still here. So I thought I would provide an update. I went here for lunch last week with my wife. We had to book in advance, so nothing has changed there then. It's still hard to find unless you know where you're going. But anyway, we were shown to our table by w lady wearing a face mask, which she kept on throughout all the time we were there. We sat by the side of the bar in the small alcove by the kitchen. The menu has remained small with about 4 starters and mains and a couple more desserts. I can't remember what we had for starters but my wife had a lovely Hereford Steak and I opted for the Halibut Steak. She said the steak was perfect and wonderfully pink in the centre. We also decided to treat ourselves to desserts on offer and had a thick Chocolate Mouse with biscuit, which was absolutely delicious. I also had a couple of pints of local ale and my wife stuck to her usual soft drinks. If I had one problem it was this. My plate for my main meal was not piping hot, which I would have preferred. That meant that the Halibut turned to being warm a little sooner than I anticipated. However, I am not going to offer severe criticism over that little trifle. The lunch was expensive, but when you need a little treat at times you have to push the boat out. We paid just under 100 sheets for the lot. Just glad we didn't have the young one with us as she loves her steaks and chocolate too. In summary, another fabulous meal and another triumph for the Butchers Arms. As the Terminator once said "I'll be back"

We visited with our 1 year old baby on holiday and were a little nervous about the sheer quality of the restaurant combined with a sometimes difficult baby... And I have to say, it was an astoundingly pleasant experience all round. The pub itself is in a lovely, scenic, rural setting amidst rolling hills and dense forests. I could dwell on how fantastic the food was but you’ll be able to see that from the other reviews and the pictures; what I will say is, I have eaten at many 2star restaurants and this was in the top 5 meals I’ve ever eaten I would say. Sublime cheffing with hearty portions to boot. Extremely good value. What really made this experience 10/10 for us was how accommodating, Nay, welcoming the manager and service was to our baby. As if he was one of their own! Despite not having a children’s menu they went out of their way to make him a special cod, mash and carrots and were so sympathetic to our needs. The food was prompt, fresh, perfect. The pub is a pub lovers dream, all wood fires and clad in oak. Picturesque with charm and style. Do not hesitate to visit if you’re anywhere in the area, go out of your way to pass by if you’re not!! Oh and have the chocolate ganache; thank me later.

Stunning meal! We went as a family of four to celebrate birthdays and had the most fantastic meal! The pub itself is full of old world charm and quirky features. We received the warmest of welcomes from the owner and the service throughout the evening was very attentive. The food was so tasty! Really fresh and beautifully seasoned. It looked just beautiful on the plate. We couldn’t resist doing all three courses and can highly recommend the Parkin cake! We staggered in to the night with fully bellies and big smiles. We will be back!

Lovely venue, the menu was limited my wife likes vegetarian food when choice is limited, sadly none on menu, but after asking if available as an option one was offered! We guys only fancied the steak, ordered rare and medium rare sadly left on grill too long and wasn’t easy to cut even with the steak knife! very limited on vegetables just a roasted carrot a small amount of purée and the steak topped with water cress, only a red wine jus lacking flavour and large bowl of frozen chips when paying £31 a nice Stilton or pepper sauce would have been nice and hand cut chips. The cheese board was surprisingly limited just a small selection of nice cheeses just 2 oatcakes accompanied the cheese most places give way too much cheese just enough was given, we believe that some crackers were needed and butter as my friend struggled as everything was just too dry with just the oatcakes Considering the limited menu we believe more could be offered for the price charged . We had been recommended by friends as their new place to go, but we were disappointed as our meal for 4 came to over £150 with just 1 ale and water drinks. Sorry for the neutral feedback I did see one other feedback from last December with the same concerns with the steak.

Dear Graham's guest, thank you for taking the time to write a review and for your constructive criticism. I served you, and twice asked if everything was okay for your table during your main course. So it is very disheartening to read that you weren't happy with the way your steak was cooked and your food in general, as throughout the evening nothing was mentioned, full stop. Unfortunately it is too late for me to do anything about this now! There were 2 vegetarian starters on offer that evening and we offered 2 vegetarian mains for your wife. Yes our menu is limited as we only have 5 starters, mains and puddings available. It is a small menu. We try our very best to make sure every customer enjoys their food and dining experience with us, and apologies we did not meet your expectations on this occasion. Kind regards Jo

The warm welcome was enhanced by tasteful delicate Christmas lights as we approached and as ever a gentle hum of contented guests was immediately felt. The log fires and efficient service together with food to die for created a lovely relaxing evening, I suggest that the venison and halibut are stars but vegans are well catered for too. The owners obviously enjoy themselves in their role as hosts and the serving staff are friendly and helpful. I hope we can come again before too long. I thoroughly recommend this delightful establishment.

Fantastic food and incredible service We visited the Butchers arms the first week it reopened for food. As the weather was nice we opted to sit outside. They still provided table service and the extra measures for sanitation were brilliant. Anti bac on every table, staff kept a good distance and the toilets were sparkling. Most importantly the food was Devine. We were a groups of 4 , 2 adults and 2 children and although there wasn’t a children’s menu the kids really enjoyed. Lovely friendly and approachable team, who really reassured people regarding the new ways. We will be back

A fabulous meal in a great setting - a marquee with lots of covid safe openings has been set up on the lawn and the restaurant tables and chairs moved into it with lots of space between them. Blankets provided to make our mid April lunch more comfortable though you’d put up with a bit of chill for this food! Four choices at each course - we tried one of their famous scotch eggs with romesco sauce to start and asparagus served with brilliant green dipping sauce. Followed by belly pork with the most perfect crisply caramelised skin and a steak cooked to perfection. A shared sticky toffee pudding to finish off and we are very keen to return soon to sample their cheese selection. The staff were very friendly and efficient despite having to carry everything a goodly distance from kitchen to tent.

We booked a table for 6.30 and turned up a little early to have a drink at the bar first only to find the gates locked. Gates were opened at 6.30 so straight to your table. Staff very friendly and attentive. Menu quite small but ok. Not a lot of choice for starters if you don't like fish. Main meal 3 of us had steak which came with 1 carrot and frozen thin chips not what you expect for £31.00 each. A few more veg and some hand cut chips would have been expected at that price. The steak and carrot were cooked well but felt short changed. Would also of liked to see the pepper sauce arrive separately as not everyone wants it smothered over everything Overall nice place but expensive for what you get.

We were recommended this restaurant by a couple we met in a pub the night before and how thankful we are for that. The pub/restaurant is in the middle of nowhere and looks wonderful and welcoming when you arrive, alot of character. A great welcome when we arrived and all safety measures were in place without feeling a sense of overkill. We had a lovely gin and tonic whilst browsing the wonderful, though relatively small, menu. We changed our minds more than once. In the end we both opted for hot smoked salmon with beetroot and horseradish and pickled cucumber, one of the best starters we have ever had. Lamb cutlets,so tender, and served pink as requested. Panacotta and cheese and a lovely red wine. A wonderful evening with very friendly and chatty waitresses who just wanted us to enjoy our dinner. Thank you to a wonderful team.

Fantastic experience. Lovely manner on the phone when booking. We had to call on our way to say we were running late because of road works and they were very understanding. I mentioned it was a special occasion and they decorated the table with little Happy birthday glitter and put a candle in the cake for dessert which was a lovely touch. Food was fantastic. I had the steak which melted in my mouth and husband had the fish. He said he hadn't had such beautiful fish in such a long time. Portions were very generous. We both struggled to finish. We of course had to leave room for dessert, panna cotta with rhubarb was divine.
