I needed to check out German restaurants in the area for an upcoming reunion. Parking is on the metered street. We walked in along with about 10 other people. As the hostess took care of the people we heard that most of them had reservations. The hostess was trying to juggle reservations and walk ups. We were on a tight... More

and I am so glad. I'd tried mulled wine a few years ago and thought it tasted like medicine. My friends told me Gaumenkitzel's was really good- so I ordered it-really delicious....just like everything else we had there. The brezel and butternut squash soup a bowl of rich and creamy deliciousness. Kasespetzle was so great, never missed meat....very satisfying. You... More

I love German food, and I LOVED this place!!!!! had the bean soup, which I think was a special that evening, soup was amazingly simple and good, obviously local quality ingredients. $5 for a small portion, which with bread was a decent mean. Goulash - FANTASTIC!!! super tender and so flavorful beef chunks, perfectly seasoned (read savory, not hot n... More

***Berkeley Restaurant Week*** This restaurant is participating in Berkeley Restaurant Week so we chose an entree (choice of 2) off a set menu. The restaurant is set up in a typical German Beer Hall (Hofbrahaus) fashion with long tables and benches with a few four tops in a little alcove. The number of beers on tap is simply amazing. We... Was in town for a conference and saw this place on my TripAdvisor app and a good place for schnitzel and beer. It delivered both and they were incredibly delicious! Highly recommend if you are in town!

Three couples went to Gaumenkitzel to celebrate Oktoberfest. The restaurant is very warm and inviting with a festival air (high vaulted ceilings, colorful banners, beer and steins on display). We sat on the long tables by the bar which was great for conversation and food sharing. The beers we tried were all delicious (the map that came with the tasting... More

You wouldn't think that a German restaurant would be diet-friendly (in my case, Weight Watchers -- diet for life), but their arugula salad and cannellini bean soup are just the ticket for a tasty, healthy and relatively low-calorie meal. I love the friendly staff and colorful decor of the place.

Greeted at the door by the owner and chef. We had the pork schnitzel and added a side of sauerkraut. The food was fresh and delicious. Highly recommend you visit and enjoy next time you are in Berkeley.

Excellent beer selection with knowledgeable staff. Open space, nice ambiance, excellent service. Yes, it is German food but with a healthy, fresh twist. I had vegetarian pattie plate and it was so satisfying, others ordered more traditional German dishes and all were happy. Wine and beer only. Generous servings.
