Alice Waters' cookbook was the first one I ever had, after "The Joy of Cooking," so the idea of actually dining at Chez Panisse was something of a Mecca moment for us. I don't know what it used to be, but for first timers, it's still an amazing dining experience. The restaurant is in a very pretty Craftsman style wooden... More

Entertained a guest from Shanghai who thought the food and service were beyond reproach! A most excellent evening.

How many decades has Alice Waters been de facto queen of Berkeley? Four, five? Well, the restaurant and particularly the cafe still deliver. The menu is varied and the wine list excellent. Old fashioned atmosphere is great for dates. Every foodie should dine here once.

French country at it's best. Ate upstair and was very pleased. I did not have a problem with the sound. We had delightful conversation. The service and food were outstanding. A delightful evening. Would go back in a heartbeat.

It was so exciting for me to eat here, what an amazing history. I ate upstairs in the café, which is absolutely beautiful, much nicer I pictured from the word café! Small, dark/cozy, lovely setting. My waiter was fine, professional but not personable (which I would have preferred). The wine suggestions were just right. Overall, I'm happy I ate there... More

OMG! The entire meal was perfect. Every detail. It was a celebration while in town and there were 4 of us. There were menus placed in front of us. Two of us had the regular evening menu that was for that evening. But our other 2 in our party got the vegetarian menu accidently. We were ( and they were)... More

We ate in the Cafe, which is supposed to be less extraordinary (and less expensive) than the main restaurant. There were three of us who ate three different meals and we all had the same feeling: good, but not astonishing or wonderful. I had the bluefish and it was decent; my partner had pork, and our friend had duck. All... More

Went with family to the Cafe upstairs. Food was good but portions small and very expensive. Duck confit consisted of a small leg and thigh which was stringy and overlooked, with a dab of mashed parsnip and a fork full of spinach. Service was friendly but tailed off at the end of the meal. Time has taken a toll on... More

Prices to high, food not very good. Hard to talk. The view is nice, the wait staff good. Would try again for special occasion only. Hard to get upstairs for disable person, but if you call ahead they will help with that.
