5 Star experience from end to end. We celebrated a dear friends milestone birthday so we decided to have another great experience at Moor Hall. For anyone who hasn't been, Moor Hall is the most splendid hotel and restaurant you can imagine. The grounds, glass...houses, the Hall etc are spectacular. As it was our 2nd visit, one change we noticed was the staff. As you would expect there are always chefs, kitchen staff and waiting staff from an international background, however we were delighted that there were plenty of local people working there. The staff who looked after us were brilliant..... certainly as good as the food. Shout to 'Kirby Joe', Owen, Matt, Anna and a lovely dark haired girl who we forgot her name (apologies). Hopefully my pictures do some service to glorious food lovingly prepared by 17 chefs'. Yes, it was a quiet lunch! Many thanks for a wonderful day.More

Thoroughly enjoyed our recent visit to Moor Hall. The house and grounds are beautiful and I enjoyed a mooch around the extensive kitchen gardens. The pre-arrival communication was excellent and the staff are welcoming and friendly. We were fortunate to arrive in time for the...tea and cake served in the bar between 3-5pm and that was a lovely taste of things to come. The dining experience exceeded our expectations and we particularly enjoyed the pre-meal visit to the kitchen where the magic happens. Each course was packed with flavour and beautifully presented, well worthy of its 2 Michelin stars. All the staff were extremely professional and the service is well orchestrated. We particularly appreciated the advice of the friendly and attentive sommelier who helped us choose some splendid wines.More

What an amazing place! Set in its own beautiful grounds and with its own vegetable garden, Moor Hall is certainly a place to go, We were dining in the Barn, which is a beautiful conversion. Staff are friendly and, of course, ultra efficient. Food choices...are limited, but that is to maintain their focus on quality. The roast dinners were simply superb. There's nothing to criticise ... apart from the pricesMore

This wonderful restaurant with rooms is situated close to Ormskirk, Lancashire. We stayed in the Rosehip Suite, a lovely room with a luxurious ensuite bathroom overlooking the lake and fountain, which used to be the moat of the 13th century Manor House. The restaurant has...two Michelin stars and five AA Rosettes- and certainly deserves them. The tasting menu with matching wines was a fabulous culinary journey which alternately surprised and delighted both of us. Even the humblest ingredients were cooked impeccably and presented beautifully. The staff were all friendly, efficient and knowledgeable. We would have liked to add a sixth star!More

How do I start this review? I am really not sure. The rooms, grounds and staff are excellent. The experience is unhurried and unfussy. The dining room is open plan, modern and affords great view of both the grounds and the kitchen. The food is...creative mixing textures and tastes and drawing on the kitchen garden for some of the lesser known herbs etc. The language used to describe everything is transparent and doesn't hide behind french terms, for example amuse bouche are simply called snacks. There are also a few surprise treats along the way such as afternoon savory/sweet treat and tea between 3 and 5 pm for those staying overnight and a boxed sweet treat to take home. You also get to see the kitchen and meet the chefs at the pass before your meal which I think is a really nice touch. The prices reflect the cost of ingredients and also the sheer amount of highly skilled work that goes into every dish. The precision that goes into every element of every dish was incredible and it is hard not to admire people that can maintain such high standards day in and day out. Menu changes can only be made for specific allergies/health reasons not likes or dislikes, this meant that both the dinner and breakfast menus are set, to give you a menu that reflects the season. For me personally, this was a bit challenging, one because I am a control freak to a degree and two because I am not keen on surprises but I did try every thing except the snack of cod roe and chicken and the one of smoked eel. I am personally interested in cooking and have eaten at a handful of starred restaurants both in the UK and overseas and I feel like this when compared comes out as unintimidating and accessible ( I know the prices aren't everyday prices but for a special occasion!).More

Having heard such great things about Moor Hall, we decided to have a pre Christmas break there. From check-in to check out, the service was flawless. After we were shown to our room, which was lovely, we were served home made pork pie and cake...in the bar. In the evening, we returned to the bar for pre-dinner drinks and canapes which were delicious. The final canape being served in the kitchen whilst talking to the chef. We were escorted to our table in the restaurant to begin the eight course menu supplemented by amuse bouche. We selected the wine flight to accompany the meal. Each course was beautiful, the details of every dish explained by well trained, professional waiting staff. Our favourites being the scallop, turbot and venison. Each glass of wine arrived in perfect time just before the food was presented. Breakfast was excellent. A set course menu which included smoked salmon, eggs benedict and the usual bacon, sausage etc. We had a lovely break with incredible food and hope to return.More

Dreadful, cold food with two courses taking 2 1/2 hours to be served. Stuff leaning across the table because they couldn’t be bothered to walk round. Then overcharged by £100 on the bill!!!! Hugely overrated and ridiculously expensive for what it is.

Our first visit to Moor Hall - from stepping through the door to leaving it was an amazing experience. We were welcomed with a complementary mini afternoon tea by an open fire, then later on dinner with so many courses we lost track. They kept...giving us another tasty morsel, including a snack actually in the kitchen which we visited en route to our table. We were greeted by the many friendly chefs, sixteen I think, some of the courses were served by a chef. Finally coffee was served back in the bar with a selection of sweet treats. Our room was warm and comfortable with a fantastic bed. Breakfast was a bit unusual as it was a set menu but still very enjoyable as we chose which bits of it we wanted to eat - couldn't have eaten it all. Specially impressed by receiving a boiled egg with the top cut round ready to lift off, egg was hot and just the right consistency Staff couldn't be faulted and we enjoyed our walk around the beautiful garden and grounds before we left.More

This was an outstanding experience from the moment that we pulled up. Nothing was too much trouble for the attentive, knowledgeable and unfailingly considerate staff. It was a relaxed and informal environment where every care has been taken to ensure that the clients experience is...front and centre. I booked this as a birthday treat for my wife who does not like a fuss or being the centre of attention and my only hesitation before booking was that it might be a bit pretentious and uncomfortable. I need not have worried as we quickly were made to feel totally relaxed and at home. The initial cocktails were outstanding, and the pace of every dish served was both prompt, delightfully explained and in every wonderful way an experience. Every mouthful of food was extraordinary, the environment, the visit to the kitchen, the table service, the drama of some of the dishes, the wine pairing. I cannot fault any aspect of this experience. Words really fail me in describing some of the most delicious things I have ever eaten. Perhaps the only minor thing that fell below the incredible standards of everything else for me was the Cornish turbot which I could appreciate but seemed to my taste to be slightly ordinary compared to the supreme quality of everything else. Desserts were extraordinary and after adjourning to the casual area after the main event we had a lovely and leisurely informal drink and petit fours. Yes it was expensive, but it was an adventure and, in our opinion, great value for money. We will book again for next year.More

We have eaten in the Barn at Moor Hall previously but not in the restaurant. As we were celebrating our 45th wedding anniversary so we decided to book a room and sample the delights of the restaurant. We were definitely not disappointed. From entering the...building to leaving next day was like floating on a cloud of caring service. The ambiance in every area was exceptional. We were invited for cake and tea once we had settled in which was served in the cosy bar next to a lovely, open, log fire. Later we went down to the same bar for pre dinner drinks and snacks prior to eating. At the arranged time we were taken through to the restaurant and a pre dinner tour of the kitchen to meet the Head Chef Patron, his 16 strong team in the kitchen and similar front of house team. The food and wine pairings were exceptional. The attention to detail superb. I am dairy intolerant which sometimes seems to cause havoc wherever I go. Not at Moor Hall, everything was perfect and not for one moment did I feel a nuisance. Yes it was expensive but it was an experience that I could become accustomed to. Very deserving of the 2 Michelin star standard and wouldn't surprise me if there was soon a third.More

Hello. As the menu changes constantly they also change the wine pairings and so don’t advertise on the website. When we dined in September 2020 the wine pairing was £105 per person. It’s a wonderful restaurant. Hope it... More
