I've had the pleasure of eating here for the past decade+ of visits to Carmel. It is always delicious. The service is friendly and laid back. The decor is cute. But really, it's all about the food that keeps you coming back.

Too often, we have found ourselves disappointed in a new restaurant--maybe it was the food, or the service, or even the ambiance. At the Flying Fish Grill, our expectations were exceeded in every way. To begin, the atmosphere was intimate and cozy, with clever partitions adding to the privacy between tables. The menu was creative, and prices were reasonable for... More

We were on a 4 day trip to Carmel and received a recommendation for the Flying Fish Grill. We were undecided for a while since there are so many great restaurants in the Carmel/Monterey area to choose from. Luckily, we decided to make the trek from Highlands Inn to downtown Carmel to give the restaurant a try. Wow, are we... More

My friend and I stopped here while we were making a drive up the California coast on New Year's weekend. We'd made reservations quite a bit in advance, but the restaurant was very busy when we arrived and the hosts were perfectly happy to chat with us until our table was free. Once we were seated, we shared the spring... More

A last-minute change in family plans left me solo for dinner in Carmel without a reservation. I figured that my chances of getting a table on Friday night of New Year's weekend were somewhere between slim and none, but the owners of Flying Fish Grill studied their paper grid of reservations, and found a place for me while turning away... As long time residents of Carmel we have been enjoying meals here for quite some time. Food is always well prepared and fresh, service handled by a seasoned staff of true professionals. Highly recommended for a great experience! Thanks Tina and Kenny for all the great times.

I took my wife for her belated birthday dinner. Belated because I did not make reservations on her birthday. This is a local favorite and reservations are a must. Fortunately, the food and service got me out of the dog house. We started with the California Tower which is essentially a giant California roll without being rolled in seaweed. The... More

Located on the seaward side of Carmel Plaza and down a few steps, this place offers food choices that could please a wide variety of taste preferences. We started with their artichokes with wasabi mayonnaise, and their tempura platter, and chicken spring rolls then went on to the plumpest juiciest salmon filets we've had this season. There were many other... More

We spent our anniversary weekend in Carmel and ate at Flying Fish on our actual anniversary evening. Our service was top notch and the food itself exceeded our (very high) expectations! The "chips and salsa" were so good we had seconds, the calamari appetizer was among the best I've ever had, and the entrees were amazing and delicious - and... More
