Located at the Crossroads Shopping complex at the mouth of Carmel Valley, this restaurant has been a staple for family and casual dinners for years. It seems whenever we are in town, we stop by because it is convenient gathering spot for family members. Everything went very well for our group of nine. We were greeted and seated immediately upon... More

For thirty years Rio Grill has been serving up imaginative, quality fare - even their burgers are special, It's a relaxing venue, with a comfortable bar up front. On my December 2016 visit it seemed like the kitchen was better than ever - right up there with the very best and most expensive Carmel restaurants. . Service can be spotty.... More

We have been to Rio Grill at least a dozen times. The atmosphere is lively and the service used to be friendly and helpful. The food is not great, but it is not terrible either. Most of the dishes have a Mexican touch and are interesting. I like the artichoke, the empanada, or a wedge salad as a starter, and... More

The host promptly greeted and seated us. The service staff took a while to acknowledge us, with delays taking our drink order, with delays receiving our drink order, and with delays taking our food order. The timing of receiving our food order was perfect, however. Kudos to the kitchen staff in the timely preparation. The kitchen staff did serve generous... More

Fun decor too. We had the fire roasted artichoke which was outstanding. I had the quinoa stuffed poblano and loved it. My friend had the duck entree and enjoyed it very much. Only issue I had was the host who seated us (who was also a woman) called us "girls" a couple of times. Both of us are in our... More

We stopped by Rio Grill on our last visit to Carmel when we couldn't get into Mission Ranch and we were sure happy that we did. Rio Grill is located in the Crossroads Center and doesn't look like a great place for dinner but when you come inside, it has a great atmosphere. We didn't have reservations on a Friday... More

Appetizers were excellent - Buffalo carpaccio and roasted artichoke! Try either one and you will enjoy. Both of our main dishes were very good but served a tepid to cold temperature: My husbands skirt steak was well seasoned but arrived room temp; my lovely stuffed poblano was actually stone cold inside - clearly a pre-prepared main that was not properly...
