I had bacon, eggs, grits and toast last Sunday. The place was rammed and people were queuing in the porch waiting for a table. It was that good. As a Brit visiting Grass Valley, I'd never eaten grits. It was an experience made better by adding Tabasco sauce, ketchup, salt and pepper. The bacon and eggs were perfect. Highly recommended,... Had I not ordered corned beef hash, I wouldn't have known that's what they served me. Yeah, it looked like some type of hash, or home fries, but as Clara Peller was fond of saying, "where's the beef?" Funny that I ordered corned beef hash at another place a couple weeks later, and it must have had six or seven... More

Had many a good breakfast here in the last five years. Last Saturday's was a disappointment. Their corned beef hash used to be quite a favorite. Now it appears to be a bland mixture of hash browns and corned beef. Toast was very dry and hard. And the scrambled eggs were chopped into small pieces. Maybe I picked the wrong... More

Charlie's is a down home, western style cafe. I've only eaten breakfast here, although they are open for lunch and dinner also. It's not fancy, but they serve a hearty breakfast. You can also substitute egg whites for whole eggs in the omelettes and scrambles. And you can substitute fruit or tomatoes for the potatoes. So it is possible to... More

Town favorite for an easy weekend breakfast. Generally, a little crowded which can make the service a tad slow. Wide range of breakfast offerings that are well prepared, coffee is fresh and hot and the employees pleasant and accommodating. We stop in when in town.

The food was decent. The best way to describe it is, "traditional American breakfast". They served all the usual items, omelets, pancakes, sausage, grits, biscuits and gravy, bacon, hash browns, etc. I tried the biscuits and gravy, sourdough pancakes, sausage, bacon and waffles. All were good except the sausage which was cheap and too fatty and the bacon which was... More

Not fancy, but friendly and the breakfast was hearty and very good. The coffee from a local roaster was a nice surprise.

Great variety of basics and hearty breakfast platters that will start your day off very well ranging from a couple eggs with bacon and toast to eggs Benedict and much more. A staple every time we visit the area.
