Had a great time with two friends who knew what to order at this yakitori restaurant. As soon as you enter, you smell the smoke from the authentic charcoal with succulent grilled items such as chicken hearts and gizzards, grilled rice cakes, and sumptuous salads with different seafood. Try the grilled cartilage for crunch and a tasty treat.

This is a hidden gem located in a small plaza in downtown Los Altos. If you have never tried yakitori before, or even if you have, you need to go here. It's as authentic an experience as one can get outside of Japan. There were 4 of us so we tried a lot of things...from chicken thighs to chicken hearts.... More

I have been here countless times. The ingredients are of the highest quality and the food is elevated and delicious. The place is familial and warm and full of both locals and folks who make a pilgrimage from all over the Bay Area. The staff is professional and knowledgeable and the sake menu us extensive. But it is all about... More

While our waiter had extensive knowledge of the sake menu and lectured us on the flavors of each of our sampler selection, the food and service were otherwise perplexing and underwhelming. We arrived for an 8:15 reservation and were seated immediately. Service took a long time to get to us and the sake routine went for about half an hour.... More

Not everything is grilled at Sumika but the flavours are delicate and the food well-prepared. We ordered 12 dishes, including dessert, among the four of us and almost all the dishes were excellent. Our favourites were the grilled lamb chops and the crab and miso cheese gratin. The former was perfectly done and we were surprised that the cheese gratin... More

Okay, so it's not really a BBQ joint. It's also not a sushi place. They are known for their Japanese skewers and their amazing oyako-don. I usually go with the Wagyu, shrimp, and scallop skewers..and lots of them. I also love their chicken karage lunch special (maybe the best karage I have ever had.) Love their salad too. This is... Sumika is the go to place for our family for Oyakidon. My brother and his family live in Hong Kong and have traveled all over the world including Japan. They head straight for Sumika when they come to the bay area and always order Oyakidon.

The grilled corn was sublime! Each skewer brought new tastes, in a relaxed setting. Good saki, and atmosphere like a bright Tokyo spot.

the food is pretty good - authentic japanese food, trained staff and interesting architecture. Not a place to eat sushi! Try many other Japanese dishes that are equally amazing!
