We were heartbroken to find Formosa closed last night--a passerby said the landlord locked them out for nonpayment of rent! You can still enjoy it from the outside, but don't come here expecting dinner or drinks. Too bad--hopefully someone else will take it over.

A perfect place to come for a cosy midweek drink; drinks are good value and barstaff are friendly. Service can sometimes be a little slow but the staff make up for it with charm!

This restaurant is across the street from one of the former movie studios in Hollywood. Thus, movie stars used to eat here and grab a drink as it was just a walk across the street. We did not eat this visit. Just had some drinks. I was disappointed in the service from the bartender. He seemed more interested in visiting... More

With Lee Marvin, John Wayne and Elvis Presley on the walls, this old school bar and restaurant takes u back to a lost time. TCM movies play and drinks go down easily in the dim light and round bench seat tables. Great food, drinks and fun.

Excellent food.... fusions of vegetarian, American and Asian, The portion sizes were barely respectable. The service left something to be desired: --distracted, spacy waitstaff. --the dishes came out haphazardly... entree-type orders first, appetizers second. We were told "that's the way the kitchen works" --I asked for some water and I got a 4 oz, glass that a child might use... More

I live in this city, and I've been here several times. I take visitors here and it's a landmark I typically point out. Last time we were sat at the Elvis Booth. The decoration and environment are this historical feeling with a mix of hipster trend. The food is VERY tasty. No doubt, but the portions are very small. The... More

This was my first time at the Formosa Cafe. I love the old school Hollywood atmosphere. You don't need to drink a lot. The drinks are strong and very good. I had a Mai Tai. We were there the same night President Obama was on the Jimmy Kimmel show and traffic was crazy, so we were the only ones in... More

A former hot spot visited by the stars, this restaurant has reinvented itself. The new menu sports brisket tacos and shrimp tacos. So delicious. We all ordered them.

Staying in West Hollywood

Neighbourhood Profile
West Hollywood
For years, West Hollywood has been known as a hub for the LGBT communities in Los Angeles. Today it still maintains the title, but has also become the “it” neighborhood for the entertainment industry’s up-and-comers. Producers, directors, writers and aspiring actors call this area home. Known for great boutique shopping, vintage clothing stores, home décor shops and fitness studios, West Hollywood is a grid of wide boulevards and narrow residential streets. The neighborhood also has a concentration of the most avant-garde restaurants in Los Angeles (rivaled only by the burgeoning restaurant scene Downtown). A trip to the iconic Sunset Strip, with its many clubs, music venues, hotels and flashing lights won’t be forgotten.
