Five of us enjoyed a reunion dinner recently. While the menu is mostly focused on fish, there are a couple of options such as chicken, and burgers. Enjoyed the fish, which was mostly flown in from Hawaii (I understand Duke was a surfer originally from Hawaii). The view was lovely. At this season there are whales that go by from... More

We went to the barefoot bar and had a nice lunch. As we entered the restaurant a whale surfaced right out front. You can't beat that. Food was very good and service was good. They were busy at the outside seating area.

Terrific oceanside casual restaurant and bar. Fantastic cheeseburgers and out of this world Hula Pie. Dined here many times and always enjoyed the meal, the setting and the service. Servers and bartenders are very friendly, welcoming and fun. A terrific, relaxed place.

Although Dukes is a chain, named after the Duke, the native Hawaii surf king, the location was a Malibu original before it was bought out. It was originally called The Sea Lion. I remember going there as a kid, delighting with my little brother how close we were to the crashing waves, which at high tide would actually hit the... More

When to lunch today with my wife and son... We sat outside on a dirty table until it was bussed... We sat for 10 minutes before my wife flagged down a server... She took our drink order and food order since about 20 minutes had passed... The food came, we ate, but had to flag down waitress for refills... The... More

Hard to believe I haven't reviewed Duke's before: it's our go-to getaway to renew and feel special. It has the longest beach view stretch of any restaurant in the area, and the atmosphere is both relaxed and impressive. The Barefoot Bar is more casual, and you get the ocean breeze, but this time, we opted for a booth inside, gazing... More

Good food and drinks in the outside of the Barefoot Bar in Dukes. Great poke tacos and a good margarita. Fish tacos and other interesting selections on the menu.

We were rolling up the coast from Santa Monica to Hearst Castle and wanted a little brunch. On Sunday the line to tune into this place from North bound Rt 1 is crazy. The parking lot is full so you can't make the light. TIP: If you are from LA, drive north, make a U-turn and come back in the... More

This place has been here forever and reasons are obvious. Food is really good and the view... perfect. Clam chowder was really good, special catch of the day was also really good. We had reservation, but got in as soon as we arrived.

don't go for the food, it's the atmosphere. lively and loud. pleasant servers, but slow when they are busy. wings are good, but get the sauce on the side. beef tacos are mushy, with very chewy meat. the group liked the ribs. nachos are what you would find at a pub.

Description
Duke's Malibu has brought the excitement of Hawaii, Waikiki, and surfing to the mainland. The spectacular oceanfront location on Pacific Coast Highway offers over 300 feet of romantic oceanfront dining and memorabilia from both Hawaii and California surfing history. The Barefoot Bar, looking south into the lights of Santa Monica, is a great spot for drinks and casual food with friends.

Staying in Malibu

Neighbourhood Profile
Malibu
The Malibu coastline is like a chameleon. In some areas it resembles the French Riviera with its lush, green hillsides descending into crescent-shaped shorelines. In others, it feels 100% Southern Californian with beaches wide and flat as a football field, and often crowded with beach-goers lounging on towels and playing volleyball. Other coastlines still feel secluded, tucked under tall cliffs and dotted with stunning rock formations. In certain areas, where the ocean waves are just right, surfers can be seen bobbing in the water. Up in the mountains to the east hikers take in truly stunning views of the ocean and the sprawling Los Angeles landscape. And along Pacific Coast Highway, restaurants are filled with visitors and locals from all walks of life. Stumble into the right place at the right time, and you’ll likely encounter a celebrity.
