Go where the locals go. Not a tourist trap and some of the best Indian food in LALA Land. Tiny and casual. Not inexpensive but worth it.

Akbar's Indian restaurant is on a main road but not exactly in the tourist area but has an open kitchen where you can see all of your food being prepared. We had the shared starter of spicy chicken wings and when we ordered the spicy chicken wings we were warned that they were very hot by the management. Boy were... More

Great food. We had a good spicy Lamb Vindaloo. The Chicken Tikka Masala was very tasteful. And good fresh Saag Paneer, with good spinach. Friendly staff. Would definitely go there again.

Good food, good company and a high energy chef! Food was plentiful and as tasty as any Indian food I've eaten. Courses ranged from veggies to all sorts of treatments of various meats. Lamb dishes were my fav's. Chicken dishes were also very good. Service was excellent. I'd go back in a heartbeat!

A very good restaurant in a no frills location but with excellent Indian food. The Tandoori is excellent with a very good Tandoori Chilean sea bass. A very good wine selection. The service was efficient and very pleasant. Moderately priced, we really enjoyed the experience.

Incredibly delicious Indian food...I would even go as far to say that it is the first or second best I have outside of India and Brick Lane in London. Okay, but not great, service is the only thing that keeps this restaurant from being one of the best you could ever visit. Keep your eyes on the prize, the delicious... More

The food was absolutely delicious, the presentation was beautiful. We started with the Ginger Lamb Chops, they were aromatic and very tasteful. The Chicken Akbari was savory and tasty. They make their own Naan bread, we had the cheese stuffed Naan bread, it was exquisite. We can tell they work hard to serve the best food and that they love... More

The food was great. Slightly different than your typical Indian cuisine, in a good way. My only gripe is that the service was fairly slow.

I've had Indian food in many places in the world and with no doubt I can say this place is one of the best if not the best Indian food I ever had. Nothing else to add. Delicious

This was a very unassuming place, but the food was wonderful. My husband and I went here for dinner and split a few dishes. Portions were very large and the spice level was perfect.

Staying in Venice

Neighbourhood Profile
Venice has always danced to its own beat as the epicenter of bohemian culture in Los Angeles. Along the boardwalk there are street performers and local craftsmen selling their wares. Original paintings, souvenirs, and jewelry are on display. Crowds of visitors marvel at the sites while weightlifting enthusiasts pump iron in plain view, and skateboarders do their tricks around the skate park. All of it happens under the warm California sun with sprawling views of sand and sea. Heading east, the main drags of Abbot Kinney Boulevard and Main Street are lined with boutique shops, some major retail stores, art galleries and restaurants. Here the ambiance is more relaxed and upscale than the frenetic boardwalk area. Venice is a mostly walkable (and certainly bikeable) neighborhood, full of areas to explore.
