First a little explanation......My wife and I ate several times at this restaurant over 50 years ago when I was in the Army. I mentioned this to our server and she took our and then said that the manager wanted to present us with a special appetizer. She brought out a large platter of calamari and veggies and dips. The... Our favorite restaurant on the wharf. Always have their marinated artichoke appetizer. Just to die for and healthy too. Topped off with clam chowder and half of a bay shrimp sandwich. Actually really too much food with the bread and butter. But will definitely fill you up! Just wonderful sitting there looking out at the water! So peaceful.

I called a couple of restaurants for reservations and couldn't get in. This place said just come on over as we have tables available. It was dark and we got lost finding the place but once we parked (fee for wharf parking) we were relieved. They took us immediately upstairs to a lovely window booth overlooking the water. Even though... More

Sign outside the entrance clearly states no high chairs, booster seats and noisy children will be asked to leave. That means it really does cater to adults in a romantic setting. Many tables overlook the bay. Service was very attentive. Prices for a tourist area were reasonable. Each of our entrees were delicious. They only draw back is very small... More

The best clam chowder in all of Monterey, so all of California, so all of the world! All the others claim to be the best but this one really is the best. The atmosphere was very nice also with a nice view of the harbor.

Before we left Monterey - just needed some clam chowder ... it was too early for many of the Wharf restaurants to be open. Went to the Cafe and grabbed some clam chowder ... it was just ok. I don't like bacon in the chowder and the bread was day prior's that had been wrapped in plastic wrap so the... More

This was an excellent lunch with a booth with a window view. The Chinese chicken salad was delicious and my husbands choice of the half sandwich and soup (clam chowder and piled high shrimp salad) was also a good choice. We are non-drinkers but the wine choices looked good as well. Old world ambiance was also special as was the... More

Old Fisherman's Grotto is the standard for any eatery on the wharf. Dark, classic décor and quiet, yet very friendly. The service here is very customer centered and hard to beat. I've always been on the look out for a good paella dish and found it here. Despite being billed as chorizo flavored, it wasn't overwhelming. The portion is more... More

We stopped in for lunch following a historical walking tour of the Wharf and had a very nice experience. My husband is an Army veteran and happened to be wearing a hat indicating that. After we were seated, a hostess approached us thanked my husband for his service. She placed a small American flag on our table. We ordered shrimp... More
