A great little corner restaurant on a main drag that took a small space and made it feel classy and intimate. Very much appreciated the work they did on controlling sound in their space. Acoustic panels hang with a nice nod to design, and you can hear the people at your table while they absorb sound from the room. Genius... More

People had told us to try this place and we are glad we listened. The Schnitzel was to die for and we tried it prepared 2 different ways: Jager and lemon parsley. It was not heavy at all as you might sometimes expect Austrian food to be. Tender on the inside and delightfully crispy on the outside. We had the... More

This is not the first time I've run across this challenge while dining in Palm Springs. There doesn't seem to be a computerized way to bill at this and a few other restaurants, so figuring out what each individual diner had to pay was not a great way to end the very good meal. To the owner: it will be... More

Austrian chef Johannes Bacher dazzles with his take on Austrian fare in a modern airy setting - a downtown storefront with an offbeat cantaloupe and periwinkle color scheme. Look up and notice the attractive acoustical panels on the ceiling to dampen room noise -- I wish more establishments would employ them. To start, we passed on the appetizers and went... More

Having lived in Germany for many years, we developed a love of schnitzel, both the German varieties and upon various trips to Austria the Vienese variety, or Wienerschnitzel. So, upon visiting Johannes in Palm Springs, three of the four members of our party had the Wienerschnitzel. This dish is made from veal cutlets that have been pounded thin, breaded lightly,... More

Great food, ambiance and unhurried, unfussy service. Tuna tartare and spaetzle apps were great and the scallops were awesome - large, seared to perfection and complemented with a beet salad and tangy citrus sauce. I'm not a desert person, but the molten chocolate cake was to die for. My only regret. Did not try one of the many intriguing Wiener... More

We had a great experience here. The service was a touch slow, but the restaurant was very busy. The food was fantastic - suggest the Tuna and Schnitzel with bacon/mushroom sauce. Extensive wine list.

Johannes is superb! We only ate at a couple of restaurants while we were there, but compared to restaurants we eat at in cities like NY and LA, this is way up there in quality. The schnitzel is excellent, and a very big portion - we tried it with tomatos, fontina cheese, and arugula. We also tried the chicken curry... More

I think the food is great, but it's a little overpriced, but you have to at least try it once. Because you're a lot of great restaurants here in the desert

As a local, I have eaten in almost every restaurant in town. Johannes is head and shoulders above most. I just love this little local restaurant. It has great quality food and good service. It is a little pricey but definitely worth it if it is in your price range. I've eaten at more expensive restaurants here and been served... More
