Duarte's Tavern has the best artichoke soup and crab melt sandwich! I come here everytime we stay at the beach house on the Pacific Ocean. The service and food are both outstanding! A must place to eat at when you are in the area!

Duarte's Tavern is an institution in historic Pescadero serving Portuguese influenced dishes since 1894. Renowned for artichoke omelettes, artichoke soup, and outstanding freshly made pies. Olallieberry pie here is truly sinful. Rustic decor, California coastal setting in quiet, quaint village. Never once disappointed in 40 years. Reservations recommended these days, especially weekends.

Came here with a friend, and we split the artichoke soup and crap melt--totally delicious and easy to split. They are known for their Bloody Mary--it's a powerful drink (both in flavor and kick), so I feel like you need to try one if you can. A majority of their food is locally sourced (some grown in their own garden),... More

If you despair that all the old California character is disappearing from the Bay Area, make your way to the San Mateo coast, pretty much unchanged for at least the last 50 years. Then find Pescadero and tuck into Duartes for half-and-half cream of artichoke and cream of green chile soup, the best hot sourdough, cracked crab and other seafood,... More

This is something else, not standard menu. Very nice. Plates nicely served. And not too expensive. Looking forward to come back another time. Reservations needed during holidays

We stopped here (as advised by our guide book) for lunch en route to San Francisco. It's about a ten minute detour into the quaint little town. It's worth having a wander and taking some snaps! The tavern is lovely and old (by US standards) and has a great atmosphere. It did smell a bit like an old people's home... More

A classic place to visit when being in the SF area. The tavern looks very traditional outside and inside and offers a lot of character. For an outsider it is also interesting to watch the locals. The creamy artichoke soup is delicious. Also the salads and the sandwiches.

Good restaurants with a lot of fishes and seafood dishes. The fish is really fresh and the dishes quite tasty. The price is a bit too much.

I went here for lunch with family including an 8 year old grandson. I decided to stick with what Duartes is famous for and had the Artichoke -green chilies soup that comes with bread and then the berry pie. There was a delay in getting the grandson's burger out but the service was excellent. Our server was very knowledgeable about... More

We went to eat here after staying at the pigeon point hostel about 20 min away. It is a local landmark. The food is ok. Be sure to go to the deli down the street and get fresh artichoke bread.

Thank Jon Y
