A friend and I happened by the Hick'ry Pit recently for breakfast. Although I had not been there for many years, the restaurant seems to have changed little and the experience was much as I remembered it as a kid 50 years ago. The breakfast menu is intensive and they still do a good job on the old favorites such... More

This is almost the original but it changed ownership some years ago, the original was called Emil Villa's. But same location, same menu (almost) and same decor. Even some of the old timer servers still work there. Service remains prompt and friendly. Our family has been coming here for 58 years while the wold town has changed from sleepy small... More

Walk back into the '60's, and have some great BBQ. They give you lots of tasty meat and sides. Problem is that they pile the salads on small plates..falls off when you try to eat them. We were disappointed in the crumb apple pie topping = dry and not very flavorful. The pie was good. Staff very friendly and good... More

Though not a fancy place (no table cloths, ordinary serving utensils), it still is a step or two up from diners or chain budget eateries. The menu, as the name implies, is mainly ribs and meats but there is a fair amount of variety, including ham, turkey, even salmon. A nice touch: for most items, one can choose from two... More

Consistent and good food. Never a bad meal and I always get what I expect. Ribs are seasoned well and always perfectly cooked. I love the handmade bleu cheese dressing. Love the hamburgers and entree salads. Always friendly and helpful service. And don't forget a slice of your favorite pie!!

Five of us had lunch here. Salads, ribs, burger etc. The coleslaw consisted of raw cabbage and a applesauce type dressing on the side. Ribs (for two) were good but the portions of the sides were small. The burger had not been allowed to rest so had soaked the bottom bun. Seems like a popular place. Maybe we didn't order... More

This place was conveniently next to where I took a class so I decided to give it a shot. I had an alright lunch here. I really liked he coleslaw and they had a variety of sandwhich selection and I picked the Ultimate Hick'ry sammich. It was too much meat for me. It was alright but I wish I had... More

My family has been going to "Emil Villa's"Hickory Pit for 50 years and even though we have moved away from the area every time we visit Contra Costa County we have to eat here. We always have the ribs with the original sauce and every time the ribs are just as we remember them, the BEST! : The quality of... More

I love their coleslaw-- probably the best I've ever had, and the pulled pork sandwich was very good BUT my salad was terrible -- the greens were soaking wet and tasteless, grape tomatoes were tough and the croutons completely bland. My husband's tri trip was just OK, French fries were limp and tasteless. Service was very poor -- a long... More

I have been going to this restaurant for over 40 years and have never been dissatisfied… But I’ve only ordered the ribs one time. Not too much has changed over time in this establishment … The pork and turkey sandwiches are great, especially the grilled one (but all of them should be shared; they are very large). We always split... More
