First back to an old haunt after several years. Never a good sign when a well established pub like this is quiet on a Friday lunchtime and there are no regulars sitting at the bar. No issues with the staff, who were efficient and friendly, but there's a quite distinct lack of atmosphere, despite a log fire on a cold... More

This was a lovely meal. I had the green thai curry and it was very good. Dad had the fish & chips & mum had the pie. As they r elderly they both had the pensioners meal which halfed the size of their dinner. It was a lovely dinner & a lovely pudding.

Good selection of food, easy to find albeit the roads to it are narrow with passing places - made more difficult when we went there by recent flooding. I was surprised to see on the menu board "pensioners'" dishes which were similar to the main menu, but slightly smaller. Good, friendly service and a big car park. Rack of ribs... More

Not at all impressed! Thes service was slow, waitress was pleasant but flustered, food was not well cooked but was priced. Cramped seating just for 2 people, chairs were very uncomfortable.

We've had midweek lunches there several times and have always been delighted. Although there were quite a few other people there it was possible to hear ourselves talk. Menu caters for a wide range of tastes.

Although the pub itself is charming and the music is great, the food was absolutely not worth it's pretentious price tag. One of us ordered the beef roast, which admittedly went down well (no veggie option?!?) however, the basic panini was £8.50 (should have been about £4.50 MAX) and the 'bruschetta' was essentially tomato on lightly toasted bread for £5.25.... Myself and my mum were walking yesterday from Latimer to Sarratt via Chenies Bottom which is near The River Chess. I ate a sirloin steak with salad, chips and Bearnaise sauce while my mother had a jacket potato with tuna mayonnaise. Although the steak was quite challenging to cut and I did not eat the whole steak, I did enjoy the... More

Visited again today for lunch, we've had a week off and the only thing I wanted to definitely do was have lunch here. The restaurant was busy when we first arrived but whitened fairly quickly. The 'fishy friday' specials menu looked great but I chose to stick to my favourite which is their ploughmen's lunch mature cheddar and home roast... More

Good & reasonably priced pensioner's lunch but disappointingly expensive wine & beer. Excellent service, rather uncomfortable bar seating & table. Mixed feelings. Unlikely to return in a hurry.

Expensive but good food. Attentive friendly staff. Some tables uncomfortable. Garden eating if weather permits Recommended
