We were here for Thanksgiving and it was outstanding. The historic atmosphere makes for an elegant and cozy experience that makes this place the perfect choice for any special occasion. The Thanksgiving buffet was fabulous with the most tender turkey and roast beef, plus there was smoked salmon. We were in Durango on Vacation and found the great reviews online... More
We made reservations for dinner after our train ride. We soon realized that on a Sunday evening we did not need reservations. It was pretty quiet, there 3 other tables. There were 6 of us. 4 adults and 2 kids. All of our meals were delicious. The restaurant itself is very interesting and uniquely decorated.
My friend is new to town and has been diligently searching for his favorite restaurant. Having lived here for 20 years I was surprised when he said that he had been disappointed for the most part. I personally had visited the Mahogany grill years ago and had a negative experience there. I was made aware that a new chef was... More
This was an interesting experience in no way meant to be disparagin. The wait staff at Mahogany on this evening was like a group of college kids at a summer amusement park. More effort than sophistication. That said my wife & I along with another couple had a wonderful dinner in part because we could talk to "the kids." After... More
Ward Martin did an awesome job and putting together a meal that was gluten and dairy free for me. When I left I felt full, as apposed to times past where I've gotten a steak and 2 carrots. I'm glad they have hired Mr. Martin, he is an awesome chef.
After a 9 1/2-hour trip on the historic Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad from Durango to Silverton and back, my wife and I were looking forward to dinner at the Strater Hotel's Mahogany Grille, purported to be the best fine dining experience in town. We won't argue the point. The restaurant oozes with Old West history with modern touches,... More
We were hesitant to go here given the 4 dollar-sign rating, but found that breakfasts were in the $8 to $14 range. Breakfast was still being served at about 11:00 am and, all three that we ate were very good. The atmosphere is a mix of historic and impressive and imposing. The stained glass ceilings lights are a wonder. Don't... More
We were staying at the Strater Hotel for two nights so we ate breakfast at the Mahogany Grill, it was OK but nothing special.
Has become my favorite place for dinner. Great atmosphere, great service, great food. Prices are toward the high end, but not unreasonable. Treat yourself...your guests.
