I discovered this nice eatery off of I-95 on my way to Portland. The food was excellent with unique flavors that delight your taste buds. The owner made us feel very welcome with great conversation that included some interesting historical context about the restaurant.

This place is amazing. The food is excellent, atmosphere is unique and also welcoming, and the view of the water is serene. A definite must go!

The breakfast was delicious made with all fresh ingredients, and the staff friendly. Bloodroot is in an old house overlooking the water, but don't get too excited the view is not that scenic. Not to worry there is plenty of street parking. When I walked...More

My wife like this interesting Vegetarian restaurant. It is tucked away, but the channel in Bridgeport. I lived here all my life and I just found in a few years ago. It is a lunch place with varied menu with salads, eggs, tofu and sweets....More

An unusual place on the western shore of Bridgeport Harbor, Bloodroot features a terrific selection of ever changing vegetarian options. Read the website before you go. Very simple.

A visit to Bloodroot Vegetarian is more a pilgrimage to a shrine than going to a restaurant. The ambiance of the restaurant is a return to the Woodstock era and the "Age of Aquarius". You immediately know that you've entered a different era as soon...More

Wonderful local Black Rock vegetarian/vegan restaurant with delicious and wholesome food. Tightwad Tuesday is a great deal--salad, hearty soup, homemade bread for $10! Beautiful water view from seasonal outdoor eating.

These are the people who wrote the book. The cookbook that is. They have published at least 3 of them, full of unique and delicious vegetarian fare. I have them all but when I see how much effort goes into most of their dishes, I...More

The veggie burger was nothing great. In fact, pretty awful and very disappointing. As one of the previous reviewers said, you get better tasting and cheaper frozen veggie burgers from the supermarket. Another previous reviewer suggested that someone buys Bloodroot a vegetarian cookbook. I say...More

Questions & AnswersAsk a question
If Anna W. Found the food so distastful, why eat the whole portion? Send it back after the first few bites. Additionally, I find it very surprising and unbelievable that she was asked to clean the dishes. Maybe "stack them" would describe what she was asked to do?

This is a exceptionally unique vegetarian-vegan restaurant that was far ahead of the curve when it opened in 1977. All menu items are made in our kitchen. There is no such thing as a pre-packaged item that is micro-waved, and then served. Whether it's fresh corn in the summer or delicious home fries for Sunday brunch, it's all the genuine item.
We have a network of local farmers who provide us with seasonal produce and another network of suppliers able to provide us with additional, delicious organic items all year round.
We have one of the best vegan menus in the country. Our effort to have a taste experience ready for you is balanced with the nutritional and health benefits that comes with a authentic vegan diet.
Visit and taste.... Thanks
