Stop shop dining for many, many years. My last experience was needless to say, NOT GOOD! Lack luster service if any at all.. Too many busy people not paying attention to the clients accept for the locals, who never have a tab. It is very annoying to paying consumers. SKIP THE SEAL GO TO THE GRIS>>...They learned from their mistakes... More

Small Pub with nautical theme accents. Each table has a small vase of fresh flowers and a candle which is kind of classy and a bit romantic. Server was very pleasant and food came out timely. The hamburger was good and the corn beef ruben was also well. The wings on the other hand were small and not that spicy.... More

Loved the nautical decor, dimly lit dining room....we had baked scrod with crab stuffing and it was very good as was the calamari with sliced cherry peppers. Lots of noise at the bar but didn't bother us...fairly priced

We had been here before and always thought the food was just ok, but we liked the atmosphere. We brought a couple from out of town last night for dinner, and we all loved our food! From the mussels in pasta (a bit rich), to the Mahi, to the scrod, and fish n chips, all were really good. No complaints.... More

The specials are really good especially when they change daily. I love the spinach salad, always fresh and tasty. Although it is a little squashed, it really feels friendly. Not fine dining, but usually okay.

You would think you are getting good food, that is not the case unless you find out 15 minutes after eating, your food taste bad, and you start to feel sick to your stomach. The service was awful, not even to up sale what is good on the menu. It is old and historical, but that is all that was... More

After spending a couple hours at the Steam Train and River Boat in Essex, CT, I searched my GPS for restaurants and found this one only one mile away. Our travels from the train took us into the heart of Essex, CT. My husband and I took a chance with the Blue Seal and what a quaint little place we... More

We had lunch at the Black Seal our first day in Essex. Our server was a treat and, besides taking care of our food needs, she gave us lots of good local knowledge and some history. We were early for lunch so they weren't that busy yet. When they found out we were visiting Essex on our sailboat and came... More

Bland, mediocre food. I wouldn't recommend it. I got a cesarean salad, my husband got a burger and our kids got the kid menu fare. It was underwhelming.

Good service. Gets very crowded on weekend afternoon/evenings as all the boat people come in. Food is decent. I really like the seafood chowder.
