We stopped by on our New England tour to have a pint and clam chowder. The bar was very quaint and the prices very reasonable. We had thought about staying here prior to our trip, but wanted to make it farther. The town is absolutely...More

I recently visited the Griswold Inn with a few friends and was terribly disappointed. Even though our waitress was very nice and very accommodating, the food was just plain lousy. There was five of us in total and only one enjoyed their meal. The 1776...More

I took 48 senior adults for a breakfast brunch. From the minute our tour bus drove up I was impressed! Friendly, helpful, food that didn't run out and food that was delicious! Our seniors were overjoyed with everything. They even made a box lunch for...More

This was our second visit, and will be our last. From the moment we stepped inside this time, it was clear that this place is for Essex folk exclusively. After a dismissive "once over" from the "hostess," the service was reluctant and inadequate--downright unfriendly, in...More

The tavern and big dining room can be quite noisy. We ate in the tavern the first night and enjoyed the piano playing. The next night we wanted more quiet so sat in the small dining area with a fireplace. Food was very good. Service...More

Yummy traditional Sunday brunch. Odd that coffee and tea are not included in the prix fixe prices... but whatever. Omlettes are good, and the waffles are fresh.

We used to love the Gris. Lunch menu was disappointing, as was the food. At other tables, bread was served practically the minute people sat down. We had to ask for it and it was quite a wait. I ordered a Sangria and a Cobb...More

I have been to the Griswold Inn many times and it is always worth the trip. Recently we came for a late lunch and ate in the pub area. I had the burger that was wonderful. Service is great. Inn is historic and beautiful.

Casual is the only word for the Gris and the rest of the town. I would recommend The Peach Tree in Saybrook if you fell adventurous

Located in the “storybook” village of Essex mere steps from the Connecticut River, this 1776 landmark offers three distinct dining experiences. “Historic Dining” is offered in four handsome rooms - The Covered Bridge, The Gun Room, The Library and The Essex Room – where a renowned maritime art collection fills the walls. The Inn’s New England heritage and connection with the sea is apparent in the classic seasonal cuisine offered; diners may enjoy a more contemporary culinary experience in the stunning wine bar featuring tapas-style dining and an extensive selection of wines by the glass; tavern fare is offered in the atmospheric, award-winning Tap Room where lively music rings out nightly. Patio dining is an option May through October, weather permitting. Lunch and dinner served daily, Hunt Breakfast on Sunday.
