Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I’ve have been staying here for work the past several weeks and ate here every night, never was I disappointed, quite the opposite. Every meal was beautiful and impressive just like the menu options. By far the best pub food I’ve ever experienced by a...long shot. The staff are friendly and extremely welcoming which is the norm in this part of the country. The pub itself is cosy and comfortable and to top it off the prices are extremely reasonable. I’m still to try the Whale but that is coming soon and will be a whole other review in itself. I couldn’t recommend this place anymore if you’re a food lover.More

Ordered breakfast buttie and a breakfast with 2 drinks. Staff were helpful and friendly. Some tables hadn't been cleared but to me that was a good sign that they are busy so to me that means its popular and good.Breakfast came and oh my it...did not disappoint. Its now almost 7pm and still so full from breakfast. We will definitely be back.More

To start we were seated at a dirty table set with cutlery. The food was over cooked and dry. The pepper sauce was like water. The desserts looked tired. Not what I expected since I had followed this restaurant on social media. The photos of...the food I saw on social media wasn't what was put in front of me. Very disappointed.More

I thought I'd give "The Waterford Whale" a go thinking no way its that big, omg I was so wrong, its MASSIVE, a beautiful tasty piece of cod, plenty of chips, I could not finish it so I asked staff if they could box it,...no problem at all. My friend had the Regular Fish & Chips, said it was tasty and she struggled to finish that sized portion too. Lovely setting, fantastic helpful staff, well worth the visit. I will returnMore

We called in after being recommended this place. As soon as we arrived we were greeted and informed that the full menu was not available due to issues in the kitchen. Ok that's fine we came for fish and chips anyway. We were then told...to have a seat and realised all the tables had reserved signs on, strange the place was practically empty. We waited a further few minutes to be told it's fine you can sit anywhere. We ordered our drinks and food. The wife was given the wrong drink but she decided to just drink it anyway. The food arrived after a while (it wasn't busy but felt the food did take too long to arrive based on order and how busy it was) We both ordered fish and chips with a side of onion rings and bread and butter. The fish and chips were outstanding no complaints. The onion rings we poor to be honest and we had to chase up the bread and butter as this was forgotten ( it was removed from the bill so fair play for that) The service was ok nothing special, no check back, and even when we paid the bill there was no "how was everything etc" My other gripe might sound minor but please for the love of god just buy some sauce bottles and stop with the sachets, I felt like I was back in the 90's. All in all an ok experience but wouldn't rush back.More

The reserve signs were on as parts of the kitchen were off so we didn't want people sitting to then be told we were not serving, I did however if fish and chips thought we could do and we did but everyone was advised before...More

On Sunday we came with our dog and enjoyed the most delicious Sunday lunch. The meat was incredible and plenty of everything. The staff were amazing and so friendly. And for drinks, a starter then main for 3 people at just £50 is a bargain....Well done everyone.More

Spent 2 nights here, in a room with sea view (you can actually see the waves from bed!). Well equipped with toiletries and lots of tea, coffee and biscuits. Best bit is the food in the restaurant, both breakfast and dinner. The seafood platter is...exquisite.More

Another visit of many over the years but the first time I've been disappointed. The food was mediocre cost of living I presume having an effect of the size of fish portions. Service is very very slow i seen lots of tables waiting at least...45 mins. Some of the staff where very friendly but I notice the lady in charge I presume has a bit of an edge .... customer is always right and she was quite abrupt to a few tables when approached about how long food would be or things missing. I've looked back on reviews and there seems to be a trend which is very sad as always been fantasticMore

Can I ask the day and time you were in our restaurant?

If anyone has visited the Waterford arms over the years they go knowing it’s going to be fabulous. The small fish is huge and as for the large you just wouldn’t order 😂😂😂 . We visited today so I went prepared ate nothing and thought...I’m going all out I’m going for the regular, I was gutted it was nice but it was nothing like it had been in the past I cleared my plate, and another of our party (86 Birthday girl )ordered the small she cleared her plate (as a rule eats very little) I think the fact that they now bring the small on a small round plate makes it look tiny. This restaurant is renowned for the beautiful and generous portions and it’s the first time in over 25 years of visiting I was disappointed. I’ve recommended this restaurant over the years to visitors from far and wide but sadly no more. On a side note the service was poor we waited 45 minutes for 5 fish and chips and the place was half empty, on asking how much longer we we’re certainly put in our place by the waitress. We arrived at 1.55 ordered at 2.05 food arrived at 2.50pm, gone are the days of “sorry I will just go and check for you” 😂😂😂 she argued the toss. To summarise if you have never visited before it’s now big standard fish and chips, pleasant but no different from anywhere else. Gone are the days of the glorious Waterford Arms 🥲More

We thoroughly enjoyed our family meal. The adults each had fish and chips served with mushy peas which was a perfect size and absolutely delicious. The children’s meal comprised of a starter, main course, dessert and a juice for £6. The variety available was perfect...for our two children and portion sizes spot on. Staff were all attentive and friendly and we had a very enjoyable experience. There was a wide range of drinks available. We will definitely return and would highly recommend.More

Saw a post on Facebook of fish and chips that was classed as a whale, so I thought we'd have to try it. When we arrived we were asked if we'd booked which I hadn't. The restaurant was full, so we were shown to the...bar area. We ordered the Whale and chips £24.95, and a small fish and chips £8.95 When the food arrived, everyone was staring as the fish was massive. It came on a platter on top of chips, tarte sauce, gravy, mushy peas, and curry. It was supposed to come with bread and butter, but we didn't get any. My husband struggled to eat the whole meal 😂 It's definitely worth a visit to say you have had itMore
