The most kindest people. We where let down on a B&B and stumbled upon this place. The reception we received was unbelievable. Although it’s no longer a B&B they took pity on us and offered us their old room. Not only that but one of...the ladies dropped us off to our family party in the next town. Later that night when we returned we had a drink with the lovely chap who owned the place whilst listening to the acoustic band who where also fabulous. I can’t express how overwhelmed I was at the incredible hospitality of The Red Lion. What a wonderful place run by wonderful people. Thank you so very much xxMore

My wife and I visited here for Sunday Lunch (15/1/22) and it was quite busy in the bar, with lots of local walkers stopping for a drink or more. The pub is old England quaint in style, with a small, but interesting bar and some...good real beers. Staffed by overseas people, but very friendly and accommodating. Menu has a good, if quite English standard variety and is very reasonably priced, compared to other similar pubs in the South Bucks area - where we live, so we know. My wife had the roast topside of beef and I had the shoulder of lamb roast, and they were very good value and tasty. Decent meat, properly cooked and generous portions of vegetables, served on hot plates - a touch often forgotten and so 9/10. Bread & Butter pudding with custard for desert was also good and so 8/10. The seating areas inside are OK and quite cosy, but the inner rooms and the toilets really need some good money spent, refreshing the main rooms via a gentle redecoration, which would lift the place and make it even more appealing and eventful. It would be good to get the other main room fire working too, for cold days and evenings.More

Very disappointed in this place. Travelled 200 miles to visit family then they brought us here. The garden was crap the seating was crap. The pond was dirty and the bridge a bit unsafe if your bad on your feet. The large black dog wondering...around wasn’t my cup of tea. Sitting and staring at us and I’m a dog person. But not when he’s wet and pooing every where. Ordered 2 steaks both medium but arrived well done. Thought I just continue as in a family group. Then the side salad brown and slimy. Eat a bit and got a soil taste and the sirloin Steak was full of grizzle. I complained to the manager who came out and agreed it was well done. Offered another and I said no the salad made me feel sick. Father in law wasn’t happy but didn’t want to complain. Menu is ok if you like sausages.. One of the burgers had to be returned as it wasn’t plain like asked for so spoilt it for him as he had to wait while we finished. The toilets were the worse I’ve seen and smelt bad.More

I didn't complain about the ploughmans, when I asked what does the ham ploughmans come with and the reply was ham I should have guessed this is not the place to come for food! I’ve had a few ploughmans in the past, usually local ham...beautifully cut, with crumbly mature cheddar and homemade chutney, with wonderful fresh bread. This was literally a piece of plastic looking tasteless cheese (dunno what it was) with bit of dry lettuce, couple of soft grapes, with chewy bread and a bit of branston pickle for the bargain price of £9. Joke!!!! Then I found a hair on one of the scallops, to be told 'that didnt come from my kitchen' in a shouting manner from the so called chef! And then told 'What more do you want you're getting your money back for that'. Yeah mate but I'm not getting my money back for 2 cheese bits and bread (2 x ploughmans £18) and I'm not being compensated for your atrocious customer service and disgusting experience at your BAD PUB!!More

First time visit, and on a gloriously warm day it was a treat to be there. A lovely cosy pub with a nice garden with water feature and interesting old machinery dotted around. We had the dressed crab salad and thoroughly enjoyed them. Salad was...well presented nick radishes and olive too. The crab was delicious washed down with a nice pint of cider. Would recommend and will be back again....More

We passed thru and enjoyed an evening meal this week. The whitebait deep fried in breadcrumbs were delicious and we both had the homemade beef burgers which were very tasty. The citra ale was quite superb. The staff were helpful and informative. It's a quirky...setting with some humorous touches and the surreal presence of a gently flowing river through the middle of the pub garden. Overall a pleasant couple of hours and well worth a visit if anyone's in the area.More

The Red Lion is one of 2 pubs in the picturesque village of Little Missenden. ( Villagers are lucky to have 2 pubs in a small village ). Some people may recognise the Red Lion from its appearances in the " Midsomer Murder " series..., albeit under a different name. I like everything about the pub : it retains its old fashioned interior - has not been trendified. There is a large garden out back. A hard surfaced area is divided from a grass area by the river /pond which runs through & is connected by a bridge. Lots of tables , generally well spaced. Also seating to the side & front. Friendly service. Having read previous reviews I note that many people were not happy with the food. I thought the menu was limited & rather reminiscent of pub food 30 -40 years ago. Nothing for vegans. However, as one who has often moaned about the increasing dominance of food in pubs , I don't mind that much. There is enough for anyone who is hungry & I reckon the general ambience outweighs any perceived shortcomings in the food department. The water area is home to assorted ducks & some decent sized trout. Would have liked a wider choice of ales. Reasonable amount of street parking. If you like a traditional English Village pub , I recommend a visitMore

Visited for lunch with family. Had a delicious pie and a few ales. Kids entertained by the wildlife and playground opposite. Great memorabilia and acknowledgement of its history. We need to support these types of establishments

Had an extremely pleasant lunch here at this very friendly Pub. A varied menu to suit all and a vast selection of excellent beers. This pub takes COVID-19 very seriously. All staff wear masks and no guests allowed to stand and drink. Tables well spaced...and spotless. Nice log fire burning away to keep you warm. Highly recommend this place. (PS Roast Lamb was amazing)More

Must be honest, just happened to come across this little beauty of a pub after a long day walking in the countryside. What a little gem. Really traditional and quaint pub with beautiful gardens and scenery. Straight away as you walk in all the staff...were wearing masks and table service was the only option 'as it should be'. Service was great. We were warmly greeted and offered drinks and a nice menu with plenty of choice and a kids option too.. Food was delicious and lovely large portion sizes. Just what was needed after a long day. Real mix of customers, some local and some I assume passing by, but created a really nice atmosphere. Would highly recommend to anyone and will definitely make sure we pass by this more regularly..More

this pub is the worst pub I have ever been to you can't sit inside because of covid so outside is the only option it wouldn't be so bad if there wasn't chickens and ducks everywhere plus I saw the what I can only assume...is the owners dog walking in and out of the kitchen I couldn't believe it the food was vile and expensive and the inside was grubby and disgusting it looks like it's not been cleaned in 30 years I would avoid this awful pub at all costs the staff was very rude and unpleasant it should be closed downMore

I am absolutely god smacked by this evenings experience and am disappointed at myself for not getting up and leaving but In the good old British way not wanting to create a scene I tried to enjoy what was a disgusting experience I came with...husband 2 friends and there baby I haven't seen them In months and wanted to have a nice evening. After ordering I was told that 2 of the things we had chosen where not on the menu this was my first shock as there are about 5 items on each starter main and dessert so to have run out made my alarm bells ring. Starters arrived the whitebait was burnt to a crisp and the smoked salmon and prawns were watery. After that we heard wretching and coughing from the kitchen the coughing was so bad and went on for at least 20 seconds I asked the waiter if it was him or the chef and he told me it was him which was a lie then the coughing started again so I asked the other waiter why the chef was coughing like that she explained he had acid reflux the food came out and as you can imagine all of us just looked at eachother like do we even want to eat this reluctantly we eat our food no one wanting to really come out with what we had just witnessed. I am so embarrassed that I took my friends here as it was terrible and we drove from rickmansworth for nice country pub I am paranoid that i have COVID. No excuse for coughing like your dying in a kitchen where the restaurant can hear also after seeing the chef he looked Ill. Anyway my husband has covid test once a week for work so I will know if we are infected next Thursday. Thanks for a disappointing teriible evening out 👍More
