Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We went for a winter walk round the lanes and canal towpath near Welshampton and ended up at the Sun Inn for lunch. An excellent choice! We sat by a great, roaring fire in the back room, which was very welcome after walking in a...very brisk January breeze! There was a great selection of wines and local beers to get us started. The menu was interesting and imaginative - what I really liked was its breadth in terms of choice and price - from very reasonably priced light bites to fine dining. For lunch we had light bites. What a simple treat I had......sausages, egg and chips in a basket - a throw back to being treated to pub food as a teen by my parents in the '70s (onlythis was much better quality than in the 70's). I was wallowing in nostalgia as I made my way through wonderful local sausages, excellent chips and a perfectly cooked egg. My wife had a steak salad which she really enjoyed. I would highly recommend the Sun Inn - we will certainly be making a return visit.More

Lovely place, staff are very friendly, rooms are comfortable and homely. Absolutely out of this world breakfast! We were visiting family and didn’t get the chance to have an evening meal but we will definitely book again ♥️.

We had pre booked a table for four people. When we arrived we were shown to a small table squoze in the corner next to a table with four people when there were plenty of other tables available and after asking we moved to a...spacious table nearby. The meals arrived and the red thai curry was covered in salt which spoilt the meal. We had four coffees which were served tepid . Nothing to recommend here.More

Went for Sunday lunch. Nice varied menu but we went with the set menu. We both had soup which was tomato and marjoram which was lovely, boringly we both had the roast beef which was tasty and very tender. Vegetables were fresh and served separately...so you could serve yourself. Lovely selection as well. Sweet was raspberry Bakewell tart and custard for hubby, which was light and lovely. I was full after 2 courses as portion size is good however I couldn’t resist the lemon posset which was delightful. Food aside service was good and staff were friendly. Can highly recommend and will visit when in the area again. Probably advise booking because it was busy unsurprisingly.More

We were on a narrow boat holiday and spotted the sign for the Sun Inn and decided to walk to it, make sure you go from Bridge 51, it’s closer to Bridge 50 but it’s a huge busy road with no footpath. Every other day...we had stopped at Marstons type pubs so it was nice to have a proper cooked meal. The food was superb and the puddings even better. Staff were very friendly and helpful. It’s a good 30 minute walk but we’ll worth it.More

Called in for drink and a snack. How lovely to find a pub that offers snacks on Sunday and not just Sunday lunches only! The ciabatta sandwiches far exceeded our expectations and good size portions. Dog friendly pub. However, lovely day so able to sit...outside in garden. Popular pub, so glad we arrived early as filled up very quickly. Often holiday in this area and will definitely return!More

Walked up from the canal. A walk-in for lunch on a Tuesday. Good food and beers. The pub is one of four in the group, also an inn. The manager was doing well coping with the 41 covers that lunch time, they may all have...been walk-ins, it can't be easy running a place like this when no one books. If you are walking up from the canal, walk up from Bridge 51 as this uses Lyneal lane that is very quiet, the route up from Bridge 50 is along the B5063 road which is busier.More

We visited the Sun Inn while holidaying on the Llangollen canal. Of the 5 pubs we ate at in the week this was the furthest walk but far and away the best food! Easy to moor up near bridge 50 and a 20 minute walk...down quiet Lyneal Lane. We had the faggot, mash and red cabbage followed by the rhubarb eton mess and both were fantastic. Highly recommended.More

We visited The Sun Inn after being recommended it by our host at the house we were staying at in Northwood. We are so glad we visited!! It was everything we needed after our hour long walk there. We had lunch and the food was...so lovely! We were a party of 10 and everyone loved what they had! The food came quick and it was all homemade! Would definitely recommend!More

We dropped in here on the recommendation of Dave from Colemore Caravan Site. Well you won’t leave hungry!! :-) we had the Mexican bean burger, which was nicely spiced and the Thai red curry which was hot and coco nutty. The portion sizes are more...than enough. We did see someone have the pie of the day which was as large as the plate. All in all a lovely pub with hearty and flavoursome food. The staff were pleasant and smiling, considering they were so busy, was lovely to see.More

I was so disappointed by my visit. It was a Sunday and they had run out of Sunday roasts by 5.30pm - not a great start, but we decided to try something else since we were there already. My partner had fish & chips which...he said were alright. I ordered a burger & honestly I was not impressed at all. The meat and the bun were drier than the Sahara desert & the meat had no seasoning whatsoever. The spinach was the ingredient with the most taste - I wish I was joking… Chips were fine, onion rings were slightly soggy but edible. I couldn’t eat the majority of the burger. We were told to order at the bar, which is fine, but the table opposite us were waited on hand and foot. Nobody came to ask how the meal was going until they took the plates away, but they did for other tables. Just felt totally ignored. I then told the young man at the bar that I wasn’t prepared to pay full price for my meal but I’d pay half price since I ate the chips & onion rings. He went and spoke to someone (I guess a manager?) and he did discount my bill thankfully. I regretted leaving the house for this meal to be honest. Maybe it was just a bad day in the kitchen, but it’s our money & the cow’s life that was wasted unfortunately. Not sure I’d go back.More

We have visited here many times and have always been impressed with the high standards and quality of their food. This trip was no exception - we went on a Monday lunchtime to celebrate a birthday. We booked a table a few days before as...we needed a dog-friendly one due to us being on 'holiday' and having the four-legged friend with us. Even though it was a Monday it was still busy, with a mix of locals and visitors alike. The food was awesome yet again, the onion rings are just fantastic! Dan was 'the man' when it came to the bar and table service, he looked after us well, ensuring we didn't run out of drinks but not being intrusive either - it's a fine line that some people get wrong! I also like that we had some games available to us and we made the most of the dominoes, though I had to let the birthday girl win! (That's my excuse, and I'm sticking to it!) As for the dog - a fresh bowl of water and a goodly supply of gravy bones were swiftly forthcoming on our arrival which he truly appreciated.More

Arrived for lunch 12pm, after about 20 mins the place was very busy, car park full. The roast dinners looked amazing, Yorkshire pudding was amazing. Had starters of garlic bread and pate but after seeing size of the lunches probably shouldn’t have ordered them!! I...had halloumi, deep fried in beer batter and hubby had roast beef. It was all extremely good and will definitely be back. Next time no starters and will hopefully have room for a pudding!!More
