FAILTE! [WELCOME!] The Celtic Ray Public House in downtown Punta Gorda opened in 1997 by Proprietor Kevin Doyle. At the time there wasn’t a single establishment in the area that offered a variety of quality imported beers and the atmosphere of a traditional Irish Pub. We serve only high-quality imported draught beers, bottled beers, ciders, fine wines, as well as, a selection of “soft” beverages. We also have expanded with the ‘other side’ and now have a full liquor bar! Our menu features traditional Irish Pub favorites made from fresh ingredients and family recipes. The Celtic Ray’s Fish & Chips are famous worldwide! See you at the Ray, Slainte!

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Food was good. The entertainment was obnoxious, dirty and filthy language. A warning of some kind would have been very helpful. We could have taken food to go or eaten there a different time.

Best fish ‘n chips I’ve ever had! The batter is just right—not too heavy or greasy—and the fish is fresh and so tasty. A nice selection of Irish dishes, but I highly recommend the fish. The interior is very much like an authentic Irish pub...and there is plenty of seating outdoors. Always a good experience every time we visit!More

Growing up in the UK & Canada, travelling extensively for both work & pleasure (along with being the family cook for 40+ years) I do believe I had to share our experience yesterday at the Celtic Ray. We had to drop our daughter at the...airport in F.M. so wanting some good pub grub, found the location convenient & the menu pleasing to our 3 different tastes. In reading the menu, we all missed the self serve notice. We arrived via the back patio area which was packed with people enjoying some great live music. Standing for a few minutes & not finding a host/hostess we seated ourselves in a small triangular 3 seater booth. After several minutes daughter B asked a busboy about a waitress & that is when we learned the local protocol. Off B went to the bar to order our 3 drinks & thee long anticipated scotch eggs ……. I joined her at the bar to assist in bringing our drinks back to the table. My wife H had decided on her main so being under a deadline for the airport, off I went back to the bar to order our entrees. I arrived back to find the eggs had arrived. Unlike their picture in the menu & their $8.50 web / in house $9.00 price, they had barely (being generous) 1/8” (at best) of sausage meat wrapping. (menu photo) Not the ¼”+ of meat that should have encased the eggs. Oh well lets enjoy what has been placed before us … ½ way into our appi. our mains show up – I want to say max. 5 minutes from ordering, made to order. So B had opted for the chicken curry & she loved it. I had wanted bangers & mash, but based on the bartenders review I went with the Sheppard’s pie, as did H. I have probably consumed hundreds of dishes of SP & it is 1 of my grandsons favourites that I make regularly for them, when visiting or staying for sleep over’s. The quick presentation was nice (once we finished our starter), but the flavor left us confused. I am not a sweets person, don’t use sugar etc. H does like sweetness, with honey garlic sauce on wings being her fav. The meat had some sort of tangy sweet (more to the sweet side) B who manages an events food catering company & has a more outgoing eating palate then H & I was not able to identify the flavouring. Neither of us found the taste to our personal liking & we ate a little before heading for the door & the airport. Perhaps if we had an opportunity to talk to a waitress about our option (rather than a busy bartender) we may have learned of other option. Of course, because no one came to ask us how our meal was, there was no opportunity to question our decision. B had the strawberry pouffe, again nothing like the photo (not even close) & she really needed a knife to cut through the bottom crust.. So we did go to C.R. based on reviews & it may well be that this is the type of food people in the area (Punt Gorda) are used to & enjoy, just not Mrs. H & my cup of tea p.s. tipping became another confusion, if we are seating ourselves, taking the orders, delivering the drinks ………….More

Our group stopped in for desserts and coffee. Oh my. So, so good! The bread pudding was phenomenal. Strawberry pouffe was just the right amount of sweet. And the coffees topped them off beautifully. The atmosphere is so warm and inviting - and the desserts...so divine - that we'll definitely be back to try the rest!More

I really liked the location, the atmosphere of the place. The food and service was good also, but the one thing I noticed online was that there were gluten-free options. When we arrived at the restaurant, they only had two items on their menu that...were gluten-free, the Smoked Salmon and a cheese plate. Both were starters, and no entrées that were gluten-free. To me, and I may be wrong, two starters are not really gluten free options as noted on the website. To order your drinks and food, you must go to the bar and have the bartender enter your order. The food arrived quickly, and as I stated earlier it was good. They had live music outside, which was quite good, and the restaurant had plenty of nearby parking. Not sure if The Celtic Ray Public House has made it onto my "definitely return" to list, but I would consider it again.More

Celtic Ray is my absolute favorite place to eat when I travel to SW Florida. It is always my first stop as soon as I leave the airport! I love the tender delicious fish and chicken fingers (trust me not your average chicken fingers! This...is the ONLY place I order chicken fingers) the coleslaw, sausage pasties, Shepherds pie, soda bread and the bread pudding. Beautiful atmosphere both inside and outside. The outdoor expansion is spectacular. Always met by friendly faces as well.More
