First visit to this hostelry and for a celebration of a member of our family's birthday. Choice of venue could not have been better. A lovely traditional, cosy pub with great character. Our gathering of twelve chose a variety of menu options including huge steaks, steak and ale pie, scampi, burns night special, and a vegetarian option. Starters in great variety were also taken, again with great options. All dishes accompanied by all the usual accoutrements. The food was completely delicious, in great portions. Cooked to perfection. My choice was the"Burns" option, a huge chicken breast, stuffed with haggis in a lovely sauce and served with potatoes, turnip, peas, broccoli etc. Formidable as the French say. A veritable tour de force. We were served by mine hosts in a friendly, helpful style. Nothing being too much trouble. We all passed the desserts, as we had arranged for a birthday cake to be served to all. This highlighted by the appearance of a piper, dressed in highland fashion, and playing a medley of Scottish music as befitted the day, in remembrance of the great bard. None of this could have been possible without the cooperation of mine hosts, who were most obliging. This an unforgettable family event with everything top class. Well done Horseshoes, we will be back.

Booked a table on line for Valentine’s Day. Made to feel very welcome from the moment we walked in. Ordered red wine, poured a glass each and put the bottle on our table which we thought was classy. Menus read and ordered whilst sitting at In bar area. Salmon starter was fantastic, fresh and full of flavour. We didn’t follow the valentine special menu, even though it looked delightful We had the steak and ale pie and the gammon. Best chips with it that we have had in a while plus great cooked veggies. Both full of flavour, portions generous, made to order. Pudding chosen off a great pudding board, the raspberry and hazelnut roulade (shared between us) was creamy, chewy and fresh with two to die for valentine shortbread biscuits. This with friendly, fabulous service made this evening special and walking out after to see the dark skies lit up with stars made it perfect This place is a must visit if you like simple, well made unpretentious food with friendly service.

This pub is a fantastic find. We made a last minute booking but when we arrived they had already got a high chair in place and greeted us at the door like we had been many times before. The food was home cooked and delicious and the pub has a great selection of beers. I highly recommend the steak and ale pie! The portions were generous and the staff went over and above to ensure our little girl had everything she needed. The most relaxed and enjoyable meal we’ve had all holiday and the service was just excellent. Thank you to everyone who looked after us today. We’ve been to several other pubs in the area and paid a lot more for worse food and really bad service. This place is a real find and a treat for a family meal. Highly recommend.

The menu does not have any vegan options. However, when our booking was made, we said that two of the party were vegan and the staff at The Horseshoes were happy to help. We got a wonderful, and beautifully presented, Sunday roast, including a homemade nut roast, roast and new potatoes, mangetout, green beans, carrots, peas and red cabbage. The vegetables for the vegans were served in a separate dish to ensure they hadn't come into contact with the mash (which contained butter) that the other members of our group had. This kind of thoughtful service is really appreciated as many non-vegans wouldn't have considered this. We finished our meal with a wonderful vegan strawberry cheesecake with vegan ice cream. I should add that the non-vegans really enjoyed their meal, too!

Vegan Irene here! Hello, Louise, Mark, family and chef. I want to say a huge thank you for arranging a plant-based Sunday lunch for my daughter and me. The nut roast was luscious and delicious, and Louise had paid attention to every detail with separate side vegetables with no butter, and all ingredients having been scrutinised to make sure they were suitable. For dessert we had vegan cheesecake with ice cream, also yummy. The meat eaters at our table also loved their Sunday roast. At the Horseshoes you can rely on generous portions of freshly-cooked delicious food, and the friendliest service in the world!

We had a really welcoming reception from the minute we walked in to this pub/restaurant, having booked a table on the strength of previous reviews as somewhere to have an evening meal while in the area on holiday. Covid precautions all in place, so we were not worried. Food was good - menu not huge, but there were a couple of specials and we had a few options to choose from. The chicken in garlic, mushroom and cream sauce was piping hot and came with chips and veg (huge portion, so couldn't finish it), but I would probably lose the cheese it was covered with. The fisherman's platter, one of the specials on offer, was beautifully presented and very tasty. Again a large portion, but he still managed a sweet - lemon posset which was perhaps a tidge on the sharp side but cut through the savoury to freshen the palate. Would potentially visit again if we were in the area.

Booked on the day for visit that evening. Told them I was gluten free and they told me on arrival they'd cleaned friers that morning and kept a part separate to ensure I could have gluten free chips and other options. Very clued up on allergens. Portions of food were HUGE and very tasty, very good value. Would definitely come back if next in the area.

Another great lunch in this traditional country pub where you will receive a warm and friendly welcome. The menu is varied and reasonably priced. If you are in the area it’s well worth a visit we always make a point of visiting when in Northumberland. (At this time, we recommend you book in advance to be certain of a table - all Covid guidelines are being followed) Thank you to the team for another very enjoyable meal with all the safety precautions in place 👏👏👏

Lovely family run pub. Really friendly staff. The food was priced okay and you get a massive portion. I had the special, which was a sea food platter and it was amazing. Smoked mackerel, prawns, salmon and crab all prepared perfectly. On top of a lovely salad We're on holiday for two weeks in Alnwick and will be coming back here for more

We looked for somewhere to go for lunch not too far from the coast. We thought we’d try the Horseshoes Inn and weren’t disappointed. The pub was well organised with a 1 way system and lots of hand sanitiser available. We were placed at a table away from other diners, yet the tables were already well spaced out. We ate the burger (wow), chicken sizzler (delicious) and the children’s pizza (best ever). The portions were very generous the all the food was home cooked. Meat is sourced from a local butcher. The children finished with the biggest ice creams ever and were very happy. Thank you for a lovely lunch, we’ll recommend to anyone who is in the area.

We were staying at Seahouses and took the 20 min car trip to visit for an evening meal, and were so glad we did. We received a warm welcome at this lovely village pub, and enjoyed a really tasty home cooked meal with very generous portions. The potato skins with dips starter would easily have done between the 2 of us, and the steak and ale pie with veg and chips was equally generous and tasty. We will definitely return next time we are up.

My family and I visited this lovely Inn several times whilst on our regular visit to the area and thoroughly enjoyed each and every visit. Mark and Louise run a friendly and welcoming place that is a must visit for any trip the the area in my view *and that of every member of my family too). Much of the food served is locally sourced and prepared fresh in the kitchen by Louise and her small team and any selection you make is going to be good; just remember to go "go hungry" as the portion sizes are generous. From juicy steaks, lovely fresh fish platter to huge gammon and sizzling chicken skillets (as well as lovely starter and desert options) the food is simply excellent. Mark keeps a mean pint behind the recently refurbished bar and can be relied on for a warm welcome (and a cold beer). We really love our visits to the Horseshoes and will be back just as soon as we can; you should give it a try too.

Ten of us staying in Rock 11-18 September this year had a brilliant meal at the Horseshoes. The landlord and his wife made us extremely welcome and he was pretty good with the banter. Good choices on the menu all well prepared and presented and boy they were big. We enjoyed it so much we made a second visit. We all agreed that we would highly recommend it to anyone as a genuine local offering good food and hospitality. If you’re in the area don’t miss it.

We are staying up in Northumberland for the weekend and looked for somewhere to get a bite for lunch with our 2 children. After using Trip Advisor we found the Horseshoes was highly recommended and not far from where we were staying! I am VERY happy we found this place! From the moment we stepped inside we received a warm welcome and shown to a table with the menus and our drinks order taken! The children picked from the kids menu and we picked from the main and it is safe to say it is the best food we have had out for ages! We ordered nachos to share which were delicious, my husband a fish finger sandwich (which was alike to huge pieces of freshly battered fish and not birds eye ones!), I ordered home cooked ham and chutney sandwich with chips and kids both chicken goujon meal. All were excellent! Huge portions and everything from the sandwiches to the goujons and huge chunks of ham fresh and home cooked! The service was brilliant - very friendly and informal We highly recommend and may even go back for Sunday lunch tomorrow! A hidden gem!!

The setting is pleasant enough but we were served massive portions, which might suit some people with an enormous appetite but was quite off putting. I think they have skimped on quality to fill the plates with 10 layers of pork and huge portions of veg. The starters were a meal in themselves; the potato skins must have been the equivalent of 6 large potatoes. As a result we all sent back at least 50% of what we were served and had no room for pudding. We shared starters. In an age where we are all supposed to be thinking about climate change it’s a shame that som much food goes to waste.

What a shame you have written this. If you have read our previous tripadviser reviews you would have seen that The Horseshoes does have generous portions. Our meat and the Pork in question comes from Green's butchers in Longframlington very local and have used the same butcher for 30 years. Our potatoes from Parks Warkworth. I cooked your lunch on the day in question and I am very upset at this review. If you had a small appetite you could have asked for a small portion. I do not believe for one minute you got 10 layers of pork what an exaggeration! I am very insulted at your two stars and we work very hard at The Horseshoes. Climate change! we buy local have never done anything else, we employ local people, not one member of staff drove to work that day how good is that for the carbon footprint. This has been a very difficult time for us in the past year, we try our best to please everyone. I think looking at your other reviews you are a person who likes to complain about everything. We will not change the way we do anything for this review. If you know me you will know how upset I am about this. I do believe what goes around comes around. Louise Dean
