A cold Monday Evening in January, so it was very quiet - only one other table with diners and a couple of regulars at the bar. The pub could have done with being a couple of degrees warmer to be honest, but otherwise pleasant enough surroundings. We skipped starters, but the main courses (1 ribeye steak, 1 lamb shank) were... More

We visited the Swan for an evening meal while visiting family in the local area. The pub serves good beer and the food was very good, I had the skate which I could not fault. Unfortunately the night we visited there was a very large and noisy group also dining, because of this we were invited by the friendly staff... More

After we'd booked the restaurant, I had some reservations after reading some of the reviews on TripAdvisor. Glad I didn't take any notice! Had a fabulous meal here the weekend before Christmas with the family. Food really was great. Fantastic choice and portions just right! The mussels were absolutely delicious - some of the best I've had in a very... More

Six people ate very well here recently; a good range of fresh seafood available, comfortable surroundings and excellent service. I will be eating here again, as I have done for many years, and I recommend it to others.

Went last night and had the Monday night special which is basically the fish of the day, peas/mushy peas and chips all for £6.95. There was the choice of brill or halibut and we both chose the halibut in batter. It was delicious! Good portions. Well cooked, chips are good as they are chilled not frozen and the mushy peas... Dusgusting leaking urinals, cold room, prices seem to have leapt up and food totally uninspiring. Staff were good as usual, the only good thing about the evening.

Hadn't eaten here for several years, but called in without booking last Wednesday hoping there would be a table. The waitress couldn't have been more attentive and explained that there was a tapas supper only that evening if we would like to stay. One look at the menu was enough to convince me to stay and what a treat. For... More

I visited on Saturday 15 October (lunchtime), my husband's actual 65th birthday and retirement, to celebrate with our daughter, son and families (including 3 children). Well, what can I say? The food we had was everything from mussel starter, crab thermidor as a main course, steaks, turbot, and lots of accompaniments. Everything all 8 of us had was beautifully presented,... More

Went for a birthday treat, hadn't been for 6 months, when we complained then that it was cold, dim lighting, decor seen better days, we were told by waitress then that they would be undergoing a massive refurbishment, so looking forward to the changes we went last night, 4 of us, had to wear coats as still cold, no refurbishment,... If you love fish, then The Swan Inn Barnby is the place to go. Set in a lovely village setting, the staff are extremely courteous and friendly and the food is well portioned and cooked to perfection. Can't wait to return for another Dover Sole that overhangs the plate, delicious!
