Everyone keeps comparing this to NYC dim sum. Not sure how bad NYC dim sum is then. We are from Boston so I can only speak based on that experience.
So basically, I just give up on trusting any reviews regarding food authenticity in South...Florida. More often than not it's the letdown I'd expect it to be due to the region we live in rather than surprisingly authentic as reviews would lead me to believe. Came here for dimsum on a Saturday morning at 11:30 and place was dead. That should've been a dead giveaway. I know that dim sum is not popular down here with such a small Asian demographic and I understand that is why it's difficult to find any dim sum places, let alone authentic ones. I knew going in that Hong Kong City does not have a rolling cart service, but I didn't expect it to take 20 mins for the order to come out, and another 20 every time we order additional items. Out of the maybe 10 items we got, we only really liked 2, the tripe and the shrimp shumai. The shrimp dumplings which were normally our favorite were so disappointing. They just tasted off, like stale wrap and pasty. Ordered another tripe and shrimp shumai, waited 20 more mins and got tripe and pork shumai (language was definitely a barrier). Didn't feel like sending the order back and waiting another 20. This is why we love the cart service. The endless offerings of dim sum of our choice. No wrong orders and no waiting in between. It's what makes dim sum not only tasty, but fun. We had eaten at another dimsum restaurant 10 mins further from there before. Since it's a longer drive, we were really hoping Hong Kong city would be a good replacement since it's 10 mins closer for us but nope, we'll be going back to that other place with the rolling carts and not surprisingly, where everyone else goes.More
