Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Having written a glowing review last year, this is the opposite-I have never been so disappointed in my life! My husband phoned to book Sunday lunch and to check that there was gluten free options on the menu, and Charles apparently said yes, apart from...the Yorkshire puddings (he said they'd had problems with their supplier, yeah), most things were ok, so he booked for my daughter's birthday on 4th. We arrived and the service was slow, but my daughter asked for the allergens list to check what she could eat. The lady told us they didn't have gluten free Yorkshires. So, we went prepared and she brought three home made gluten free Yorkshire puddings with her. We ordered and gave the person who took the order to ask the chef to pop them into the oven for three minutes. They were brought back saying he refused because of cross-contamination! I couldn't believe it! We got up and left. This is one place I shall not return to at all! Really so short-sighted, they are the easiest things to make and foolproof!More

Four of us had a takeaway meal: steak & ale pie with chips, veg & gravy. The pies were excellent with a tasty filling in perfectly crisp pastry. The meal was hot and there was a good selection of vegetables (carrot, cabbage, parsnip and tender...stem broccoli). All for a reasonable price. We were very impressed.More

My son and I popped in on a Wednesday lunchtime and were amazed by the quality and reasonable price of the roast dinner (set menu). Quite possibly the best roast chicken ever, superb potatoes and fabulous stuffing , all really well seasoned . Accompanying veg...all excellent, plenty of gravy. The lemon posset and treacle pudding also wonderful - and the staff delightful. We cannot recommend this pub highly enough !More

The roast beef and roast potatoes were excellent, cooked beautifully and hot. The rest of the vegetables were not particularly hot and the dish for 4 people was the same size as the dish of vegetable served to a table of 2. The service was...a bit chaotic with several people attending to us resulting in a bit of a wait to place our order as each person serving thought somebody else had taken our order. There was also a long wait between courses. We will eat here again as we want to support our local pub and the new team.More

New management are doing a great job! We’ve had a run of bad management unfortunately so if you’ve visited in the past few years don’t be out off. The food was simple and delicious. Nice specials too. Good sized potions meant we didn’t have room...for pud so we’ll have to go back and we will. Really friendly staff and the chef/manager came out to say hello too. Great stuff!!More
