Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Pleasant rustic atmosphere with strong fire blazing. Fresh baked bread and many dishes cooked by the waitress's mother. Ordered the same lamb dish as many other places, but was much better than anywhere else. Great food well prepared and very kind service. Highly recommended.

Highly recommended restaurant, located in the village of Drakona, 25 min drive from Chania. The restaurant has a magnificent view of the mountains and the area. The food is very delicious, with local Cretan dishes. The service is very professional and friendly. Would definitely visit...again.More

We visited this restaurant an hour before its closing. Even though I told the owners that we will eat quickly and leave before closing, they told us that we should not worry about the time at all and just enjoy our food! We essentially had...the whole place booked for ourselves! The hosts (Mr. Manolis and Ms. Antonia) are extremely warm people. I almost felt like I was invited to my relatives for dinner! The view in unbeatable. It really gives you a sense of serenity and peace. As a side, the journey to get up to the mountain is also well worth it. Regarding food, it's extremely tasty and portions are beyond generous! We got the "katsiki tsigaristo" (which essentially means goat cooked in oil and wine) and zucchini meatballs (kolokithokeftedes) and kolokithoanthous. "Tsigaristo" was amazing and is supposed to be a delicacy in Western Crete. So it's a must! Kolokithokeftedes and kolokithoanthoi were also very tasty and even though they were appetizers, their portions were so big we felt bad we couldn't finish them... Ms. Antonia kept checking with us to make sure that we were enjoying our food. All of the food was prepared by her. Mr. Manolis lent me his jacket, because it was a bit chilly. At for the end, they served us raki (made by Mr. Manolis grapes) and desserts by Ms. Antonia. Dessert serving is usually on the house in Crete. We almost ended up staying an hour after the "official" closing. Totally recommend this establishment. The view, the food, the value for money, the owners' superb hospitality all combine to give you a really memorable experience. I will certainly come back when I'm back to Chania.More

We tried this taverna four or five years ago and thought it fairly unremarkable. Driving in the Drakona area the other day and looking for somewhere to stop for lunch, we opted to give O Tzaneris & i Arhontissa another go. So pleased we did....This time the food was superb. Of many highlights, the home-baked bread was simply wonderful. The house salad was a dazzling mixture of fresh and tasty ingredients. Potatoes - both fried and oven-baked - were among the best we've had on Crete. Succulent, tender pork melted in the mouth. We arrived expecting a so-so meal. We left feeling we'd enjoyed a high-class feast, while admiring stunning views of the surrounding countryside. The service was excellent. The taverna at the other end of the village seems to get most of the plaudits. Indeed, we've had several good meals there. But it looks like O Tzaneris & i Arhontissa has come out of the shadows and upped its game. The result is wonderful. It thoroughly deserves to be ranked alongside its rival.More

We stopped off here on the way through the hills, the food is delicious! Homemade cheese pastries and courgette croquettes... amazing bread toasted in the oven and huge portions of stew and chicken. Very good value too, and the views from the balcony are great....Can totally see why this place has a five star rating here.More

The food and the service was excellent. They use local fresh vegetables, cheeses and meats. The food is cooked in clay pots in a wood oven. Everything was cooked slowly to perfection using authentic Cretan recipes. The food is homemade by the owner’s wife following...traditional Cretan recipes. Highly recommend the trip there with views over the city. Worth the drive! 😋More

We were with 2 couples next door in the accommodation (also highly recommended) and thereby almost daily eat there. Although we very rarely eat meat at home, we enjoyed eating the specialties of the tavern here. The staff is very friendly (love to Adonia) and...the taverna is a real insider tip, where even the locals love to eat. The food is very cheap and if you are already full, Adonia comes by again with a piece of cake, fruit and a raki. For us the best restaurant on our Crete trip!More

We have visited upon recommendation of friends living in Creta. Starting from arrival, owner and his son Michalis were very helpful and accommodated to put us on a table and offer a baby seat for baby. Taste of food was just amazing. We ordered Kotsi...and Lamp. The meat as it should be !!!! Local cheese Graviera, Cretan Salad and zuchini flowers stuffed with rise, local wine completed our lunch. Don't miss to taste bread baked in the over of the restaurant by the owner. View is great and giving a tip of relaxation (on top of excellent foods). Sincere thanks to the Owner and we are looking forward to visit them soon.More
