I was supposed to have my rehearsal dinner at The Chophouse in December. This is the first I'm hearing about the restaurant change. Very disappointed. You would think that someone would have reached out to us regarding the change since they knew we had reserved the back room. Any recommendations for another nice place to have the rehearsal dinner?

The owner is the same good chef as The Chophouse but the menu and name changed to Hawg Wild. Very popular, but I miss a more upscale menu. If you are into healthier choices, the smoked turkey or brisket is what I would recommend.... They have their own smoker. Not a pork eater, but those who are love it. Their... More

Dear Guests, Thank you for taking the time to post a Trip Advisor review of my newest restaurant, Hawg Wild BBQ and Catfish House. I'm so glad you enjoyed yourselves. If you still crave that great Chophouse cuisine, please visit Murphy's Chophouse or The Chophouse at Laprade's on Lake Burton, both are very close by. Chef James More

It used to be a Shoney's, and the food was better . Took 10 minutes for Maitre-de to acknowledge our existence, even though there were very few patrons. Saw 3 patrons sent back some sort of fish special, it taste funny, is what I heard. Very pricey, and small portions ( my baked potato was a little larger than an... More

I always enjoyed the chop house food and now will have to go to Murphy if I want to eat at Chop House.

Do not plan to eat at the chop house. It has become one of four barbecue restaurants in the small town of Hiawassee. We will miss it as there are a number of options in town for good barbecue.

The key to a successful business is to find a niche or need. I guess the owner missed that memo. It's now Hawg Wild BBQ and joins a multitude of other BBQ joints. Yeah, the interior is nicer than most BBQ joint. Just pass it on by...nothing remarkable or even noteworthy here. In the end, it's still putting lipstick on... More

Had a very pleasant dinner tonight at the newly opened Hog Wild BBQ (the old Chophouse). Best hushpuppies ever! I ordered the 1/2 chicken dinner which had a deliciously flavored rub, very good, I highly recommend! Very (new) comfortable atmosphere and nicely deorated. (NOT a picnic table/bench type restaurant) The view is incredible and waitress said they are planning to... More

So sad they closed this place and turned it into another BBQ place. This WAS the nicest restaurant in the area but now it is gust one of six BBQ houses within a mile or two.

Dear TLinATL, Thanks for taking the time to post a Trip Advisor review. I changed the Chophouse of Hiawassee into Hawg Wild BBQ and Catfish House. We've recently opened to great reviews. It's a full service restaurant that offers not only BBQ but seafood, salads, soups, appetizers and freshly made desserts. I wouldn't call it a "joint". Please give us... More

Second time this has happened. The service was poor, the food was only lukewarm when it was served, and it was only so-so. I HAVE had good meals there, don't get me wrong, but they don't seem to be able to do special events.

We vacationed in the Hiawassee area after Christmas. We chose to go to the Chophouse on New Year's Eve because it seemed like it would be a great dining experience. It wasn't terrible but it was definitely not up to the level that they sell themselves and price their meals. They ran a special 4 course meal that my son... More

Description
This place is temporarily closed due to renovation. It will reopen in Spring 2017.

The Chophouse of Hiawassee will be closed beginning on January 2nd for renovations. Chef James will be introducing his new concept "Hawg Wild BBQ and Catfish House" sometime in early spring. This will be his 4th such restaurant with the other locations being in Clarkesville, Commerce and lake Burton, Georgia. The renovations will include a redesign of the dining room and kitchen areas, covering the front lakeview patio and building a new smokehouse. Hawg Wild BBQ and Catfish House is known for it's authentic BBQ and the freshest catfish available. We look forward to welcoming you to the new restaurant this spring!
