Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Appreciate it was a busy Sunday but service was very slow. Yorkshire puddings were dry and tough. Broccoli was still partly frozen. Meat was dry. Shortage of gravy and apple sauce. Staff were not attentive at all. A real shame because it had been recommended...to us.More

Went here as a couple and was looking for a pub that served better than your usual deep fried food. Woolpack certainly met the brief. The mixed grill was huge, quality meat. Husband did not think he would be able to eat it all. Only...minor negative, steak was served medium to well done. When order was taken not asked how he wanted it. I had the hot stone steak which was good. Again minor negative is the whole steak was served already cooking on the stone. I’m used to meat being on the side and then you cook using the stone that way it is how you want it. Because it was already on the stone, by the end you were eating well done steak (no plate to put on to stop it cooking). Variety of desserts including old school style kept in a hot cabinet. Have friends visiting in June so hope to visit again. The locals were friendly and we were made to feel welcome. Saw they had a fair sized beer garden.More

My wife and I were staying in a local campsite in our motorhome and the owner recommended the woolpack. We had a fantastic meal, the food was delicious and good value for money, the staff were so friendly. The landlady was very polite and made...us feel so welcome. We have a 7.5m motorhome and although it took up more than 1 bay the landlady was ok for us to park there. I will definitely be back for another meal as it was so nice.More

Havent been since 2021 and definitely not going back as it has not got any better. Walked in and felt out of place, no warm welcome just locals staring at you. Had to find someone to say we had arrived after standing there for 5...minutes, no one else in the restaurant. Waitress was standing behind the bar talking. Finally got seated then waited an age for our drinks order to be taken, finally came back to ask what we wanted to eat. Food was ok nothing exciting only had a main course but waited an age for that too. Waitress came our clear our plates and that was the last we saw of her, she kept disappearing with her phone outside. At no point in the 35minutes we sat there after plates were cleared were we asked if we wanted dessert, another drink or coffee.. terrible service, no atmosphere and a complete let down if you are looking for a nice meal out. Used to be a lovely pub years ago, shame they really do not know how to make customers feel welcome now, putting fancy lights outside doesnt make it warm and inviting inside.More

We are so sorry for your bad experience, we are looking into the member of staff that was working this day.

I love this pub. Have been there quite frequently lately and have noticed it is becoming busier. Good pub grub … not cordon bleu… but good food and generous portions. Service is good. Clean all round.

Been to the hospital work was covered let’s find somewhere for dinner!!! So owning a cab firm I get to hear loads about restaurants etc, we picked a lady up from The Woolpack last week, she was absolutely raving about it. So we figured we’d...give it a go! Now I’m not quick on my toes, but we were welcomed as we stepped in and sat close to the door so didn’t have far to go. A lovely family atmosphere the locals all knew each other and the bar staff! Lovely big fish tank and a nice menu with a good choice to cover most needs and tastes. I was intrigued by black Rock steak……. Will be giving it a go next time having watched another diner going at it! In the mean time, I had Pork Belly, chips, coleslaw and corn. The good lady had beer battered cod chips and mushy peas. Her fish was so big it was trying to escape off the plate! As for the Pork belly when I’ve had it before it’s been nice but never very filling, so I had the whole not the half, lesson learnt, half would have been fine! Lol Topped off with Cheesey Garlic Ciabatta to share! Drinks for 2 and an amazing meal in a beautiful country pub! Perfect! If you’ve not been, do it!!!!More

I left a complimentary review for the food at this Pub in March, having recently returned I can only say the portion size and quality have declined and prices have gone up. They seem to be pursuing the idea of a " Gastro "pub and...in doing so have lost their way. £16.95 for a Ploughmans that consisted of a couple of pieces of Ham and 3 x 5mm slices of cheese, plus some salad that was past its best, VERY poor value. Hunters Chicken which last time was great , now served on a small wood/slate platter that I consider unhygienic. Drinks are expensive at over £5 a pint. Great shame, they have gone from 5* to 2* and we wont be going back.!More

Expensive but well cooked food. Portions were good but 14 quid for a 6oz burger isn't for me. £4 for a coke and your left kidney for a starter or desert. Menu not exactly varied but you can check online before you go. Service was...ok although a table of 8 actually could do with 8 menus and not 6, and the free choc mints for after for 8 diners actually need 8 and not 7. Apart from the prices and the maths it is pretty good although not one I'd go back to.More

Nice pub, friendly staff and beautiful food! We had roast gammon and I’d go back every weekend for the same food. Veg, cauliflower cheese, gammon and the potatoes (beef dripping one’s) were all so nice not one complaint. Dessert was great too we had the...biscoff cheesecake. The staff were attentive and friendly.More

We went in for a family meal treat my daughter and my 2 grandsons .The pizzas were excellent the sweet and sour chicken looked like chicken nuggets in sauce when mt daughter sent it back the landlady came out and said they were the same...as the kids chicken nuggets and were 100% chicken and if she wanted something else she would still have to pay for it. As we cannot afford to waste money my daughter said she would eat it .Half way through our meal my grandson saw a chef come out a door and start spitting outside when we look the chef was been sick .Poor man I hope he feels better soon but so put us off our food .Said to the landlady I would pay for our drinks not the meal as could not eat it. The landlady never apologised just seemed more cross that we would not pay for our food we could not eat .In this day and age you can not be too careful . Hope they closed and cleaned their kitchen .More
