I have loved Bar Gernika for years. A very casual, small and basic downtown restaurant with nearby convenient parking. Definitely a fun, comfortable and one-of-a-kind place. Staff is friendly and efficient. Food is mostly sandwiches, good and reasonably priced for what you get. Menu has a local Basque flair and the wine is good, too. Can be a bit crowded... More

Very friendly staff served us local brews and an unforgettable spicy lamb sandwich with fries that you have always searched for. I ate too much, but my companion was smart enough to take 1/2/ of her's home for the next day. Gernika is on my list for my next visit, and you might want to put it on yours.

I was visiting Boise and was excited to experience their significant Basque area. We stopped into Bar Gernika following our Walk About Boise walking tour. I had heard about the kalimotxo--Coke and cheap red wine, so I had to have one. I had heard that was a "traditional" Basque drink. I don't know about that, but it was exactly like... More

We wanted something a little different and found this place offering Basque food. A lot of the menu was burgers and sandwiches. We shared the spicy lamb grinder with croquetas, and a plate of cheese (goat, Manchego and something else yummy) with added chorizo. Delicious! There were a lot of craft beers available by the can, or a rotating tap... More

My husband was craving a chorizo so we went for dinner. This place reminds me of Cheers. The bar was full and it seemed that everyone sitting there knew everyone else. Our food came quickly and the waitress was very nice and attentive. The food was delicious. Great place to hang out

Having spent many years in northern Nevada, with dinners at the Star and Nevada Dinner House, this place is just a noisey bar filled with locals. It is just bar food, lamb tasteless but the cheese plate was good. We did not visit the other "Basque” restaurants in the quarter so can't give any other opinions. It is also very... More

This is a small and unassuming place but make no mistake the food is not. We tried several of their Basque specialties - Chorizo, Lamb Dip, Spicy Lamb Grinders and Tortillas. All were very good. Great variety of beer, wine and hard ciders (apple & pear) with many locally made. My only complaint was because of the size and many... More

Bar Gernika is the best Basque restaurant in Boise. It's a whole-in-the-wall with lots of character. Food mostly includes lamb, chorizo, and pork. Croquettes (a fried dough ball) are the BEST!

HIgh end? Nope and that is what makes this place so cool. This is a pub- get a great sandwich and have a good beer. What else do you want?

Was driving cross country and happened on this place. Excellent, local vibe and very good food. Having eaten the amazing food of Basque country, this was a great find. Good mix of traditional Basque with local flavors. Can't wait to drive through Boise again!
